Hi
I'd be glad of any advice or personal experiences here. I am around 4 stone overweight, so definitely obese. Most of it is on my stomach though, which now looks like I'm 11 months pregnant with triplets. I'm in my 50s so this is not a possibility. It's very painful and I am short of breath when I walk etc.

I've put on a lot of weight in a short period - 10lbs in 2 months.

Six months ago I was bodyboarding in the sea, walking every day and doing an exercise class every week. Now it's a struggle to do anything.

I'm having bloods done on Friday but any ideas / comments? Am I just unlucky to pile it all on in one place?

Heard from the trial team at my normal 'chemo' hospital today. I'm booked in for another CT scan on the 4th, plus a consult and, all being well, I'll start chemo again on 9th August.

I'm so glad they're on the ball on this - I am going to try to find out what the problem was with getting a date for the hysterectomy, but that might take some time.

My birthday is on the 11th so it's not great timing in one way, but cancer and chemo wait for no man or woman... And I will have become accustomed to it again before returning to work and dropping DD3 off at uni.

All the best TQ. I hope the scan brings lots of good news and that the chemo goes well. Flowers Shame about the birthday - maybe you can celebrate it a week early?

flyright · 20/07/2017 08:04

Did you get the storms last night? Massive downpour here - West London. And I'm at the sad age where I think it's good for the garden.

Glad to hear your news. Sounds all very positive within the framework of bloody bastarding cancer

Hope your DDs are doing okay. Do you have exam results ahead? Mine is first year uni so nothing significant examwise. So nice to be past the stress of GCSE and A level results!

Anyway best wishes to all and fingers crossed for a window of opportunity for some Wine

LavenderRains · 20/07/2017 15:35

I've just found this thread and read most if it. I want to send you my best wishes op you sound like an amazing ladyFlowers

And just to say, 7 years ago my sister in law had ovarian cancer that had been fobbed off as ibs for years. She collapsed one day and they found a massive cyst that was cancerous. It burst as they removed it and things looked bleak. She was only in her 20''s. She had loads of chemo, but I'm so pleased to say that this year she gave birth to a lovely baby boy and all is well.Smile

TwitterQueen1 · 20/07/2017 17:07

Hi Flyright
No storms last night, no. Had a couple the night before but not massive ones. I too am at the "The garden needs the rain." age!

Yes, A level results due on the 17th... [trembles]. Though DD3 has been a brilliant, hard-working student so should get what she needs. Also end yr 2 for DD2 (2.1) so we're not too stressed about that.

Welcome to the thread Lavender and thank you for your positive story.

Uni friend coming for the weekend tomorrow YAY! I may even have a sip or two of wine to celebrate. How can we be so old?

OP posts:
flyright · 20/07/2017 20:07

Ha! Exactly. No idea how the age thing happened. Seeing a friend this weekend who was my best mate when we were 11. Amazing to think that's 40 years ago.

Good luck to your DD. It's stressful worrying about them but it seems whatever happens on the day things work out even if plans have to change. Some of my DDs friends didn't get the route they hoped for but a year in and all's well. That said your DD will I'm sure be just fine.

Enjoy your weekend and wine. Get a nice bottle of something you really like. A time for quality if not quantity. Or both.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 20/07/2017 20:39

Wine to being old. It's certainly better than the alternative. Enjoy your friend's visit!

Fingers crossed for DD3 Star

Also pleased to read it was "only" stage 3C. I really hope you're in the lucky 10-30% Flowers

Regarding being cancer free, they often use NED (no evidence of disease) if CT scans are clear, as they can't guarantee there's no microscopic cells lurking

I hope you are recovering well :)

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 20/07/2017 20:39

Sorry I'm not sure that entirely made sense so I hope you can decipher as I expect you are fluent in chemo brain Grin

TwitterQueen1 · 20/07/2017 20:51

Made sense to me Leslie! And thanks for the NED explanation - that's a new one to me.

Thanks for the update, TQ.

I am also thanking the rain for coming - total saddo.

I am sending you the best of wishes for the scan on the 4th. I'll bet it seems neverending to you. Try to enjoy what you can of the summer with your lovely girls.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 22/07/2017 09:57

They sometimes use NAD instead of NED too, just to spice things up Hmm NAD is "no abnormality detected"

Butteredparsnip1ps · 23/07/2017 09:16

Glad to read your positive update. I truly hope all of your unwelcome guest has been obliterated. For good.

My Grandma was born on the 11th August, and she was one feisty lady. She had a long life.

Good and not so good news today, at the post-op checkup. I'm healing really well and very mobile. But because my surgeon found cancer on the liver, small bowel, and the diaphragm I am now classified as stage 4.

I was upset at this, but he went on to say that because there's no evidence that it's in the lymph nodes I'm actually better off than some grade 3 sufferers.

The nuances are difficult to grasp but he said he got it all out so regardless of staging I guess I need to trust that the remaining chemo will kill off any remaining cells.

Hunky the girls are buying cashews at this very minute!

mrsRosaPimento · 25/07/2017 16:53

The surgeon is the expert here, so try to believe him. Sounds like a move in a good direction. I've been lurking for a while on your thread.🌻🌸🌺

flyright · 25/07/2017 16:58

Good girls! Send them this way. My afternoon at work feels like a lifetime and could do with being enlivened by cashews. And possibly a small glass of rose. Grin

As for your news it must be so hard to know what to make of all the information. Having to learn the intricacies of something so complex, and that you have no interest in. Except of course you have every interest in it. I suppose you just have to trust the professionals and if they're encouraged, be encouraged.

Hope you're managing some nice times in between all the stress.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 25/07/2017 17:06

Wine and Cake for celebration/commiseration

Pennina · 25/07/2017 21:27

Well said Leslie! Your surgeon sounds excellent and here's to zapping anything that's still there that shouldn't be (cashews at the ready!)

MrsMozart · 25/07/2017 21:34

Surgeon sounds good lass.

Itscurtainsforyou · 25/07/2017 23:56

Hello TQ - well scary that it's classed as stage 4, but as it's all been removed that's hopefully stage 4 of nothing. Am raising a glass to that Wine

BarchesterFlowers · 26/07/2017 07:28

You dropped off my threads TQ.

Great to hear that you are recovering well from the op.

I imagine that was very scary to hear but Itscurtains has it .... stage 4 of nothing sounds good.

Flowers.

Brenna24 · 26/07/2017 13:46

As others have said, your surgeon is your expert. If he says there is something positive, grab on to that and hold it tight. Flowers

tickyandtackyandjackythebacky · 26/07/2017 14:39

Bloody hell op you've been through it. Just de-lurking to wish you all the luck in the world. Flowers

CiderwithBuda · 26/07/2017 14:58
Flowers

Not in lymph glands is great news. Stage 4 sounds scary but what your surgeon says makes sense.

gonegrey56 · 26/07/2017 16:24

Hello TQ, well the positive view of the surgeon is what I would listen to. The overall classifications are so broad that I imagine they are inflexible. You are special so no doubt your case is also unique and special !
Glad to hear you are healing well, that is also so positive .
Sending lots more Flowers x
