Hi
I'd be glad of any advice or personal experiences here. I am around 4 stone overweight, so definitely obese. Most of it is on my stomach though, which now looks like I'm 11 months pregnant with triplets. I'm in my 50s so this is not a possibility. It's very painful and I am short of breath when I walk etc.

I've put on a lot of weight in a short period - 10lbs in 2 months.

Six months ago I was bodyboarding in the sea, walking every day and doing an exercise class every week. Now it's a struggle to do anything.

I'm having bloods done on Friday but any ideas / comments? Am I just unlucky to pile it all on in one place?

Footle · 08/04/2017 07:51

Hello TQ, glad your recovery has a start date.

BellaGoth · 08/04/2017 08:07

Hi TQ. I've read through your whole thread and just wanted to say that April 19th is my birthday, which just shows that amazing and fabulous things happen on that day. Must be a good omen!

RubyRedRuby · 08/04/2017 08:38

TQ I'm sorry you have this diagnosis but as the previous poster said I am so glad you have a date for the start of your recovery. You sound like an amazing woman (with a kimono). Much love and luck to you through the next few rummy (as my grandpa would say) months.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 08/04/2017 10:57

Glad you've got your treatment date OP. Did we ever find out what a provocative kimono was?

This might make you laugh, I'm currently modelling this fetching number. I'm slightly Wonder Woman obsessed!

Just sending you some love TQ.
19th April probably seems like an age away, but it will roll round quickly enough.
Hope the chemo is kind to you and an absolute fucker to your cancer.
Many hugs xx

I'm so sorry. I've somehow posted on completely the wrong post. I'm going to ask for my random dog drivel to be deleted

Hello everyone! Let me start by talking about hedgehogs mating.

What on earth for? I hear you ask. Well, I know 'tis the season and all that but I'd never witnessed this til last night, when we got back from celebrating DD's birthday. DSis took borrowed-back-for-the-day puppy into the garden for a pee and a poo when we heard a yelp followed by laughter. DSis called us outside to see the activity (not a lot - it was very, very slow and careful); pup ran back into the house in fear and promptly shat all over the dining room floor....

We have a lot of hedgehogs in the garden - we have the requisite gap under the fence panels and a haven to the side of the house (ie the other side passage where I hide the garden chairs and stuff. I hope to see baby hogs later in the year.

Anyway, back to the matter in hand. I got confirmation yesterday that I will be in the clinical trial and will get Carboplatin, Taxol and Bevacizumab (Avastin), so am very pleased with that.

I will also be having chemo on a weekly basis - this is part of the trial too, investigating whether there is anything to be gained by smaller, more frequent doses. It's obviously inconvenient to have to have to trail up to the hospital every week, but I can do this, still work, and tbh, anything that may possibly help has got to be a good thing.

I don't yet about whether it has spread to the lungs. They drained the fluid last Thursday and it's been sent for testing so I'll find out next week.

So I guess I'm good to go.

Yay for getting on the trial, and good luck with the lungs.

And mating hedgehogs sound excellent. I would really like some, but I have the car park of a sheltered accommodation block behind my house, and on the other side of the sheltered accommodation is an old cemetery/wildlife reserve, so any sensible hedgehog would snuffle off to the log piles and general hedgehog luxury accommodation nearby rather than my garden.

Okkitokkiunga · 11/04/2017 12:19

I'm afraid the mishap on your dining room floor made me laugh. Hope it was an easy clean up. I've often wondered about hedgehog mating - slow seems to be about right Confused.

I've been thinking about you often since finding your thread. Hope your boss has been more supportive than you thought she would be. Pleased for you that a treatment plan is in place.

Hope the little patter of prickly hedgehog feet isn't too far away. Off to google hedgehog gestation.

Sorry it's taken me so long - and sorry to disappoint everyone, but here is the link to my very unprovocative dressing gown

I now prefer the superman one upthread

Very tasteful dressing gown. I suppose they don't do Tiggy Winkle ones.

lougle · 12/04/2017 08:09

Great news that you are in the treatment arm of the trial. Weekly chemo is a big deal, but at least you can build it in to your regular routine, I guess. I think I'd prefer that than trying to work in weeks on, weeks off and part weeks.

Your puppy sounds amazing! They are so entertaining. Hedgehogs, too. They make such a cute snuffling noise. We sometimes have one that comes up our driveway.

BigGreenOlives · 12/04/2017 13:11

Someone using a local forum has posted a list of tips for someone having chemo based on her own experiences as someone diagnosed with breast cancer. I don't know whether the tips are relevant, if you feel in the right mood you might like to have a glance over them. They range from telling you to make sure you are sufficiently hydrated to talk about prescriptions.

Thanks I just wanted to send you some love Thanks

yoohooitsme · 13/04/2017 08:50

stilla I had a good cycle this time - well it felt better to me overall - wiped out but kept going for days 2-5 (school holidays) then much better though lots of low level stuff like clumsy fingers and wooly thinking, hot flushes nightmarish as usual and worse chemo week. (DH however said he'd never seen me so bad, Hmm thanks DH!)

Good luck for starting your treatment TQ It's a bit of a rollercoaster but on balance getting started and then being able to tick each step off as done feels positive.

Are you mired in the 'what should I be eating' thing? I found I got a bit stuck there - we ate a lot of spinach for a while Halo - however I am now finding chocolate is much more beneficial Grin Grin Roll on easter weekend. Sending you a virtual large sumptuous easter egg to get stuck into.

Itscurtainsforyou · 16/04/2017 19:12

Hello TQ how's your Easter? Been thinking of you over the weekend. Hope it's been a good one and you're feeling prepared for things getting started this week.

Chasingsquirrels · 16/04/2017 19:47

Hi TQ1, just checking in and saying hi. Not long till 19th now, hope you are holding up okay. Hugs x
