Another bump for this thread. I am glad to have found it
I am 54 now and had my mirena coil removed a couple of days ago after just over a year if it being in situ.
I had had it fitted to try and resolve the very heavy periods I had been having for several years, for which I had been using tranexamic acid (with mixed results).
I bled daily for the first five or six months with it in and would have liked to have had it removed during that time, but Covid 19 and the first lockdown happened and that wasn't possible.
I then had a clear patch of about 6 to 8 weeks during last summer, so a glimmer of hope there, but after that periods restarted and became gradually heavier until a couple of weeks ago I had a huge flood which wouldn't stop for hours. It literally scared me so much that I was wondering whether to call 111, which I am reluctant to do during the pandemic. Fortunately it did slow down significantly at that point, so I didn't.
Following that I had a telephone consultation with the GP and arranged the removal.
I am very relieved that the little piece of crap has gone. I hadn't been especially keen on having one to start with but reluctantly agreed to try it as I was at the end of my tether with the heavy bleeding.
I've certainly been bleeding heavily today though, and have started using tranexamic acid again. I have a blood test booked for Monday afternoon to check for iron levels, and a referral has also gone in for another ultrasound scan and back to gynaecology yet again. This time I shall be pushing hard for a hysterectomy as I have had enough and can't go on like this.
Who knows how long it will take though with the current pressure on hospitals.
