Hi everyone, we are making one change a month here and checking in daily. Some of us are on our third month, my goals are
(1) a walking target - 8k steps
(2) a diet target - 7 fruit and veg a day
(3) !NEW! - 10 mins yoga a day
Regulars please recap your goals, lurkers, now is the perfect time to join us with whatever goal you think will make a difference for you.

Rubbish yesterday, only redeeming feature was 7.5k steps, 3 F&V one of which was made up of dates, which are basically pure sugar.
Today I've done yoga courtesy of my weekly class, and close to 7.5k steps, plus 5 F&V so a middling day. Had a decent tidy of the house which is good for my mental health, and my treat was a lovely new skirt.
I'm thinking that for January I might do one food treat a day (with a 250 calorie limit). I'm currently eating several portions of junk most days so limiting to one will be an improvement.

13k steps yesterday. F&V done. Yoga not so good, did have a bit of a stretch for a few minutes.

Today I am making a big thick veg stew so that should keep my veg intake up for a while. I'm not good at veg unless it's disguised.

MoreProseccoNow · 20/12/2016 14:02

Afternoon all. I seem to be doing ok with the walking - getting my steps in most days - but the diet isn't great. I plucked up the courage to Wright myself & I have somehow lost 1lb (probably just a fluctuation of the scales).

I really like your idea of 1 treat food a day in January Alice - I'll join you in that!

I've got an interview tomorrow, for going up to full- time next year. So I'm really going to struggle with steps if I get it. Urgh. But we really need the money so has to be done.

Can't believe Christmas is so close. I think I'm in denial.

Stellar67 · 20/12/2016 18:10

Good Luck with the interview Prosecco.

MoreProseccoNow · 20/12/2016 18:20

Thanks Stellar, I don't really want the job, but need the money. Not looking forward to being f/t with 2 young kids, plus commute & partner who works long hours & no family nearby. I can manage it for a bit, but it will probably be at my own expense Sad.

Stellar67 · 20/12/2016 19:28

Oh prosecco I do feel for you. We have the same. My DH works away two weeks out of three. I work two days and one DS has ASD and won't do childcare. No family nearby and although friends offer it's not something I'd like to accept. I'd like to move up but reality says no.
Okay now I am half and half for you Confused
I'm going to have some wine tonight. It's been a shit day and the wind is howling. It was once fruit.

toldmywraath · 20/12/2016 19:56

Prosecco I feel sorry for your situation, so not sure whether to wish you luck. I was lucky enough to be a SAHM (part time childminder though ) until my youngest started school. Even then I only worked 20 hours per week., but with 3 dc childcare was not cheap. I'm in my 50's so I think there was probably more SAHM's back in the 80's/early 90's.

toldmywraath · 20/12/2016 20:01

I've hit my 10k steps today (hospital visit) plus I cooked a roast dinner so 5 veg eaten. Roast dinner because 2 of my dc are here & won't be for Christmas.

Not windy here Stellar I've just eaten brussel sprouts, so perhaps later on but very cold. I like your one treat per day idea! I'm over indulging far too much at the moment.

AliceInHinterland · 20/12/2016 20:25

I've hit my 8.5k steps and F&V there is still potential for yoga but everyone else is in bed (ill DP) so the lure of the duvet is proving too much.
That sounds hard Prosecco I will be in the same situation after maternity leave so I'll let you blaze the trail and give me your tips afterwards.
Your roast sounds lovely told I had a soup and roll for one, but it boosted my veg at least.
Enjoy your wine Stellar it sounds like you deserve it. I think you should take your friends up occasionally to give you a break, and everyone likes the chance to feel like they are doing a good deed now and then.

Oops sorry Alice it was your idea about the one treat per day. Credit where credit's due Blush

AliceInHinterland · 21/12/2016 14:00

The main thing is whether it works!

AliceInHinterland · 22/12/2016 09:15

9k steps yesterday, 5 F&V and no yoga. Once again an okay day. How did y'all get on?

OP posts:
Stellar67 · 22/12/2016 12:58

10K steps, yoga, erm 1 veg. Blush

Slippery slope into the lake of Baileys for me....

AliceInHinterland · 23/12/2016 14:56

Yesterday I hit the veg only, but that's definitely better than nothing, and I wouldn't have done it at all without this thread.
I am even starting to crave my cucumber and carrot sticks although that is in addition to chocolate not instead of it.
Today is on track for steps and veg so far.

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 23/12/2016 18:33

I did 7k steps yesterday and I've been quite good on the fruit and vegetables. Today's steps are 11k currently but only had one fruit so far. I'm going home soon and I am looking forward to a salad. Words I never thought I'd typeGrin

toldmywraath · 23/12/2016 18:35

What sort of carrots are theyAlice ? I find raw carrot unpalatable.

AliceInHinterland · 23/12/2016 19:00

They're just normal carrots - they're only nice when they're fresh not those 'orrible precut batons. They are organic, I don't know if that makes any difference.

OP posts:
Stellar67 · 23/12/2016 22:45

8k, apples and veg soup x 2 and no yoga.

AliceInHinterland · 23/12/2016 23:03

Hit all my targets today, obviously things are going to hell in a handcart over the next three days - shall we report back just for fun or give ourselves a break? Is anyone even going to try?!

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 24/12/2016 15:18

Alice- I've bought organic carrots for Christmas as they definitely have more flavour. I will try them raw as well.

I will be hitting the fruit & veg target for sure over the next few days, not so sure about the steps (7.5k so far today & haven't walked the dog yet)

I'll probably do a round up of my efforts in a few days or so.

Merry Christmas!

AliceInHinterland · 24/12/2016 18:53

Have a lovely Christmas and enjoy all that lovely vegetable matter! The closest I got today was an individual apple pie and sweet potato chips. Minimal walking and no intention of yoga.

OP posts:
Stellar67 · 24/12/2016 23:55

10K, Christmas veg (we have Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve), no yoga.
Have a lovely time all, we are off around the country visiting, if the weather allows.

MoreProseccoNow · 28/12/2016 08:55

Hello everyone! How was Christmas? Have things gone to pot totally?!

I did not too ok in the run-up. I didn't get the job - probably a blessing in disguise, as I just need some extra hours for a few months & they were needing a year. So I sat on the sofa & ate maltesers & drank Bailey's. That was the start of the descent into Un-healthiness

I've not managed my walks as usual & obviously school is off, so my steps are averaging 7.5K. The weather here has been atrocious - even my waterproof mum-coat didn't hold up & I was soaked to the skin getting my hair cut.

Going to walk today with the kids on bikes, so should get some in then. Tempted to do another 5:2 day.

Hope everyone had a good time over Xmas x

toldmywraath · 28/12/2016 14:49

Hello Prosecco are you relieved about the full time job not panning out? The hours looked like they would be problematic for you.

I'm doing well with the steps although I've revised my target to 8k during the festive period. Managed that and more.

Fruit and vegetables are being consumed in large quantities but not been on my exercise bike at all.

Plenty of cake and goodies being consumed unfortunately.

Weather here is very cold and frosty, no rain at all.

AliceInHinterland · 01/01/2017 15:28

Happy festive period - we've moved over here for the new year link
