What is this swelling above my collar bone.

I have had it over 3 months and have booked doctors for next Friday. It is above my right collarbone, the swelling is soft and inside it is a movable long thin lump. It does not hurt at all and I haven't had any infections or bites etc. It does not bother me except it hasn't always been there so o worry about things like lymphoma. I know that apparently cancer lumps are usually hard and immobile so it's probably a lymph node....Has anyone had anything like this at all or any doctors with ideas please? I keep swinging between thinking I'm over reacting and then thinking I should rush to the doctors. In case you can't notice it, it's on the left in the picture but actually on my right. The redness is my terrible British tan Blush

I hope so .. it’s going to take a while but i need to do it.

Dizzy28 · 02/05/2021 17:48

I have the same on the left side, waiting for scans now ... I’m worrying my self stupid though as I keep googling 🙄

DaniO2 · 09/05/2021 11:23

I have similar swellings on both sides and I’m having an US on the 17th @Dizzy28 I hope both of ours are clear. Are you in the UK?

Mine was very odd as I only noticed them 12 days after my vaccine last month. I’ve also had a headache for the past two weeks. At first I thought it was related to the vaccine as they say lymph nodes can swell but the lumps aren’t hard and they don’t hurt.

I definitely could do with losing weight so hopefully it’s just fatty tissue. I really wish it was easier to lose weight!!

Did you have the vaccine recently by any chance?

Dizzy28 · 09/05/2021 15:59

@DaniO2
Have had bloods done and my Cortisol levels and my liver levels are borderline, so now they want to do scans and check what’s going on, it could be just fatty liver, as I have indulged in alcohol and bad foods et cetera over the lockdown period, I’ve also had both jabs now, I had two days of side-effects on the second one where I just felt sleepy and had a headache but that passed

DaniO2 · 09/05/2021 16:56

Fingers crossed they find out what it is quickly. I had some bloods done but I don't think they checked cortisol. Hopefully nothing serious and losing weight will help things resolve.

I did get told I had fatty liver on a previous scan a few years ago when they where checking for gallstones.

Hi. If you’re still following, did anything ever come to light with the swelling? I have it also but in both sides. Ultrasound and CT showed nothing. It concerns me though. Tammy

DaniO2 · 20/05/2021 14:03

I had an ultrasound which showed nothing wrong. So bit of a mystery. I'm hoping git disappears on its own eventually.

freakycat · 13/06/2021 17:20

Hello Meg, I am currently having the same issue, did yours ever have any color change, like bruising color almost? And do you have any further updates since this was posted awhile ago? Thanks in advance.

Clarkie3167 · 05/07/2021 03:25

Meg, what was the outcome?

SavannahTx · 05/08/2021 05:39

Hi. I have the same swelling on my left shoulder and now a small swelling on my right shoulder. I had a sonogram and it didn't show anything. Also, my swellings go up and down. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten an explanation of what it might be? Thanks

lljkk · 05/08/2021 13:33

OP's lump looks exactly like the sort the telly skin doctors remove with fancy Latin names that mean "fatty lump"

Suemashy1 · 26/08/2021 07:29

Hi, I have exactly the same thing! I’ve had an ultrasound scan which came up clear, all bloods are clear and now they are sending me for a chest scan.
No idea what it is, I don’t feel poorly, it’s not sore, just concerning.
I would upload a photo to show you, but new on his and not sure how.
Keep us posted how you get on!

Me too, waiting for a scan but bloods OK. Mine appeared after my covid vaccine and got worse after the second one so GP thinks ita just reactive to that. I am so worried though.
Papillion73 · 29/11/2021 00:10

Oh boy! I'm 48 and recently discovered that I too have these fatty lumps just behind my clavicals with the one on the left being a great deal larger than the right.

I have no idea how long I've had this as the only reason it started to bother me is because I began wearing a necklace and the swelling, with the necklace, caused discomfort along with an ugly crease from the weight of the charm.

I have not been jabbed, but I am overweight and I have hypothyroidism.

It too bad that so many who previously posted here have not returned.

I will look further into Cushings Disease and hope to hear more from this thread in the future.

PurpleRayne89 · 30/11/2021 13:52

@Papillion73 according to many, weight gain seemed to be a pre curser to the lumps. I think they’re lipomas. If you’re concerned, make an appointment with your physician for further investigation. However, I’m confident that it isn’t anything too serious.

Papillion73 · 30/11/2021 16:51

Thank you!
Yes, hopefully with weight loss all will be well.

Jaxstew72 · 26/12/2021 15:06

Hello! I know it’s been a few years, but thought I’d ask again. Are you still swollen in that area? I’ve had this pop up as well and plan to make an appointment soon.

PurpleRayne89 · 26/12/2021 23:29

Apparently if the swelling is bilateral then it’s most likely fat pockets. Usually accompanied with a buffalo hump. US shows fat on scan and no issues with nodes. However, it’s worth having doc look into cushings.

Mari92 · 29/12/2021 07:53

Hello, how are you today? I have a similar one on the left side, and it appeared 15 days after the vaccine too, I've done several blood tests and ultrasound and MRI, they don't find anything! It started with a strong torticollis and I have this swelling for 6 months

PurpleRayne89 · 01/01/2022 00:26

@Mari92 have you gained any weight recently? The vaccine is probably just a coincidence. Or it could be an immune response so your nodes could have temporarily inflamed. However, if tests have been done and nothing has been found then it probably isn’t anything to be concerned about.

SocialConnection · 01/01/2022 01:38

I did have a similar lump both times I had frozen shoulder. Any shoulder pain?

Kyb1961 · 24/01/2022 10:16

Reading this feed from
all of you is comforting that I am not alone.
Mine started when I could not bend my left arm back or lift it high. I would get a sharp shooting pain down to my elbow. I had problems with my arms because I have a huge dog who had pulled me over. I just too pain killers but it did not ease. It all started in November. December I got my booster jab. Then came Xmas and omicron do I kept going managing as much as I could. Finally called Gp two and half weeks ago and the nurse practitioner prescribed me anti inflammatory for two weeks.
Two weeks went and not much improvements so I got to see her last Thursday. She noticed the soft rubbery lump on my left shoulder she side as the pain. She checked everything. Could not establish why I have the swelling. Now I waiting to get my blood test on 31 jan earliest they can offer and waiting for a letter about the X-ray and physio.
I have been worried sick since Thursday. It's the wait that's frustrating.

takincareofme · 01/03/2022 18:00

I have had the same swelling for over 27 years. It was the result of a strain to the neck/collarbone area. Worked it out with physiotherapy

HopeBP · 11/03/2022 21:40

I first noticed this swelling on my left side a couple of weeks after I received my Pfizer vaccine in my left arm (July2021). It seemed to go up and down, but now is much larger and staying threat way. This last week the right side is getting puffy too. I think it just somehow be pressing on nerves because I feel like my ear is affected (not an earache, more of a pressure). Asked my GP about it a few weeks ago, and he said it wasn’t related to the vaccine and also said not cancer, but didn’t say what he thinks it is. I’ve got a call scheduled with him early next week to ask further questions because it’s all I can think about. Reading your posts has been most reassuring.

KaileeB · 13/05/2022 01:32

Do you have messed up neck or shoulders? Did it go away after frozen shoulder went away?
