What is this swelling above my collar bone.

I have had it over 3 months and have booked doctors for next Friday. It is above my right collarbone, the swelling is soft and inside it is a movable long thin lump. It does not hurt at all and I haven't had any infections or bites etc. It does not bother me except it hasn't always been there so o worry about things like lymphoma. I know that apparently cancer lumps are usually hard and immobile so it's probably a lymph node....Has anyone had anything like this at all or any doctors with ideas please? I keep swinging between thinking I'm over reacting and then thinking I should rush to the doctors. In case you can't notice it, it's on the left in the picture but actually on my right. The redness is my terrible British tan Blush

@MegGriffin

I had my ultrasound yesterday and the doctor said it was all ok. He said he could see lymph nodes on the same side of my neck but they were not worrying so that's a relief. I will go back to my doctor though as I still don't feel right and have noticed a lymph gland on my groin which I have never felt before, however, what he said is reassuring so I feel much better about things.
Meg: did they ever say what it was? A supraclavical fat pad is a symptom of Cushing syndrome . When I look up supraclavical fat pad Cushing is the only thing that comes up

Hello Meg! I had the same swelling, now is mostly down but i wanted to know what could have caused it. Did you find out anything?

Pamela9875 · 13/12/2020 23:28

Mine was like a water balloon, soft and nothing in there, couldn't feel a lymph node either

Pamela9875 · 13/12/2020 23:30

I only feel the long thin string just like you, I think that is a muscle

@Doglover4

I have this same problem. It is worse on the left side. My neck is incredibly stiff and I actually have a "hump" on the back of my neck. I went to probably 11 doctors - 4 years ago and got nowhere. I actually had one doctor tell me "that is just you - that is how your body is". They did find herniated disks in my neck which they said caused the hump. But the puffiness above the collarbone has been there for years and nobody can explain it. I started taking CBD oil which is anti flammatory and it seems to help my neck pain and some of this puffiness seems to be improving. But who knows what it is.
Did they consider Cushing syndrome ? The hump is an indication of that

Just saw my doctor. He thinks it’s probably a lipoma but now I’m inthe waiting room for an ultrasound while a bad snow storm is going on

GetHealthy34 · 18/12/2020 22:59

I was tested for Cushings & Addisons. I have hypothyroid. An ultrasound was done as well and they said it's "fatty tissue." My guess is, hormones cause this and even if I'm currently negative for cushings, I may have had a spike when this showed up. Mine are just like the posters image but larger and on both sides. They have gone down in past 2 months but still very noticeable. My endo is keeping track of my hormones & cortisol.

Hi MegGriffin. I have been on thousands of posts and yours is the first one i have seen that is the same as mine, i have a ling thin movable lump around my collarbone. All the things i read point to cancer in lungs etc so i have been so worried. Can i ask was everything good with you, did it go away? I have had multiple blood tests that came back clear but i was worried as my lump seemed weird being 'long'

I have the same thing. A soft mass on left side. Had an ultrasound and they said nothing about the mass. They did however tell me i have a nodule on the left side of my thyroid. Doctor has referred me to an ear nose and throat doctor. Im scared now.

mande1 · 29/12/2020 09:11

Hi jamie, i understand your concerns but one thing i have learnt through all this is that a lot of lumps etc turn out to be nothing, this situation with me took over my life since October and it has been awful. I am now trying to just wait for my ultrasound and see what comes of it. Let us know how you get on but try and stay positive. When your Doctor referred you did you ask why? or if he had concerns?

PurpleRayne89 · 29/12/2020 09:52

@Jamieleigh63 hey, I hope you’re ok. Mine turned out to be fat pads (I know right), I have gained an additional 2.5 stone in quick succession so no surprised but it is an unusual place to gain weight. Working on losing it.

I had a chest X-ray and ultrasound, both returned nothing. I do think your situation will amount to nothing. Even if it doesn’t, worse case scenario, this is the easiest type of cancer to treat (not want you want to hear).

I think you have nothing to worry about to be fair. Make sure your eating probably, getting enough rest and you’re not allowing this to occupy your mind more than it should. X x x

Hi Ladies,
After speaking and consulting with many doctors about these masses. It's all hormones, they fluctuate so even when you go in for blood work, you could be within "normal range" but fluctuate at home. Their "normal" isn't everyones "normal." Estrogen, estrodiol, estronge, testosterone, free testosterone, free T3, free T4, reverse t4, reverse t3, cortisol, glucose, progesterone, insulin all need to be tested and tracked. Advocate for yourself, because these doctors obviously don't care & are clueless. I have PCOS & hypothyroid and have been on 25 mcg levothyroxine for 2 months and the masses have reduces greatly. Thyroid controls hormones. I highly recommend getting all labs I mentioned to start.

GetHealthy34 · 29/12/2020 18:50

Hi Jamie,
I hope you will be ok, thyroid nodules are normally non-toxic and nothing to worry about. I also have hypothyroid and have two tiny nodules. Monitoring for any changes is key.

Hello, I have also noticed the similar soft puffiness on the bottom of neck/clavicle. Noticed it for about 18 months now. Its the same size but I just get worried. What was your result Emma and Meg thank you sharing

Suzannequirxtner · 02/02/2021 21:36

Look up Cushings.

Suzannequirxtner · 02/02/2021 21:42

PurpleRayne89

You should look into Cushings disease.

PurpleRayne89 · 02/02/2021 22:38

@Suzannequirxtner thanks for your input. It turned out to be fat pockets. I gained a lot of weight in a short space of time due to IVF medication. Working on losing it in the hopes it will go. X

Suzannequirxtner · 02/02/2021 23:52

Cushing can cause weight gain and fertility issues as well as fat pads and Buffalo hump.

PurpleRayne89 · 03/02/2021 10:17

@Suzannequirxtner I don’t have cushings. I didn’t have fertility issues either. I’m in a same sex relationship so my partner and I, I order for us to start a family it was the only way to do so.

I gained rapid weight as I was on a cocktail of medication. Two doctors do not think I have cushings, well 3 if you include my fertility doctor.

Hi I’m a 15 year old girl and I just realised above my collar bone that there is a bit of swelling and I am so so scared please someone help

Flowr1245 · 26/02/2021 15:49

Hi Emma I’m just wondering did anything come back from yours because I’m having a big of a swelling above my collar bone it’s not noticeable and dosent feel like a lump I’m just terrified

PurpleRayne89 · 26/02/2021 16:05

@Flowr1245 hello. Sorry to hear your having dons concerns relating to your health. I know this can cause some anxiety. Fortunately most of the time it relates to something not so serious. However, any swelling in this year should be investigated as swelling is usually linked to either the lungs or lymph nodes. I would book a consultation with your Doctor so they can decide on the best cause of action in order to investigate. Not only doing something would be placing your mind at ease but it would also provide some reassurance. I am certain it isn’t anything serious but you should let a Doctor decide.

Best of luck x

Dizzy28 · 22/04/2021 22:29

I too have these fat lumps in my collar bone .. on both sides, having bloody test to check Cortisol levels .. I thought it might be Cushings Disease but i don’t show all the symptoms .. dr Saïd it might be that I have put on nearly 4 stone over the past 3 years 😩, on a diet now, no alcohol and trying to look after myself better .. hoping these lumps may disappear once I start shifting the weight.

PurpleRayne89 · 22/04/2021 23:05

@Dizzy28 I think once you begin to get back to your usual weight they will disappear. I wouldn’t worry too much about it to be fair. X
