What is this swelling above my collar bone.

I have had it over 3 months and have booked doctors for next Friday. It is above my right collarbone, the swelling is soft and inside it is a movable long thin lump. It does not hurt at all and I haven't had any infections or bites etc. It does not bother me except it hasn't always been there so o worry about things like lymphoma. I know that apparently cancer lumps are usually hard and immobile so it's probably a lymph node....Has anyone had anything like this at all or any doctors with ideas please? I keep swinging between thinking I'm over reacting and then thinking I should rush to the doctors. In case you can't notice it, it's on the left in the picture but actually on my right. The redness is my terrible British tan Blush

I had my Thyroid removed and had radio active iodine treatment 18 years ago. I have the lumps on both sides above the collar bone. The left side is larger.

MariaMagdalene · 22/09/2023 13:42

I have the same on both sides. A doctor sent a CT scan and nothing showed. Ask for it.

TomRusty · 05/10/2023 05:46

Hey all! first I want to say how. relieved I am to have found this thread.
I have the exact same description as OP except mine is on the left and a smaller lump on the right. I am male and 28 years old.
Just was wondering if there are other males out there with this sort of thing? My wife and I assume this is because I am overweight. I have no other symptoms other than having these newly found lumps.
I live in the States and cannot afford to go to the doctor. I wish I could have it checked out and Google is very scary... to the point I have freaked out on multiple occasions when trying to research this. but I reassure myself that I have no other symptoms of Hodgkin lymphoma, leukemia, or crushers.
I have been under immense stress for 4-5 months now (due to financial issues, not anything else) which could have something to do with this, and I have had two cold soars back to back over the last month or so (I have gotten cold soars frequently my whole life). other than that, these lumps just fluctuate with the day.
After reading a number of posts on this thread, I am pretty relieved with what everyone has been reporting back. and I am hoping/guessing my situation is similar to it just being fat... just hoping I'm not the only young male out here with this.

DonnaBab · 06/10/2023 17:15

@TomRusty so sorry to read you’ve been under lots of stress recently. So far my understanding with these fat pads/lumps is they are just that, a build up of fat - I am no doctor. My lumps have been called lipoma by the doctors here in the UK. I had bloods done, chest X-ray, a scan and a consultation with a specialist head and neck doctor and all came back normal. I do keep an eye out for changes, pain and other’s symptoms like feeling more tired on a regular basis and I will return to doctors if I notice anything else, but right now I a healthy 39 year that out on a little more weight than before. I hope you find a way of seeking some medical advice for your own peace of mind and reassurance.

Absolutelynotfor2019 · 06/10/2023 18:24

I have this on both sides. They have been there for about 30 years . GP said excess fat,not investigated and I am still here thirty years later !

ElleElle3 · 11/11/2023 12:52

I get swollen on both sides but more prominent on the right. No lump just swollen like a fat pad. My job has me hunched over all day long so I am hoping this is just muscular. I am going to see my primary asap before it goes away again.

Boymommaa · 21/11/2023 03:47

I have the same thing! I notice it get more puffier when I’m at work and or stress more than usual or even lift heavy things..

lala43 · 11/12/2023 07:57

Hi did you find out what was the cause of your issues?

MsDee76 · 21/12/2023 03:31

Hey I’m so glad I’ve found this thread, I’ve been a nervous wreck I have the same thing on the left side it’s very soft it’s like fatty tissue.i have a Doctor appointment coming up Friday and I’m nervous I suffer from real bad anxiety and I always think the worse I been getting no sleep from being scared and worried I’ve cried and cried. And google just makes things worse so try to stay off that like all my doctors tell me! I was diagnosed with Sle lupus last year so maybe it has a lot to with and plus I’ve been on high dosage of steroids which I’ve gained so much weight from so I’m just praying everything will be Ook cause I suffer enough from lupus

PurpleRayne89 · 25/12/2023 00:05

@MsDee76 sorry to hear you’ve been having a tough time. Do you have a photo? Honestly it’s probably nothing, if you have no other symptoms then I wouldn’t worry too much. Let us know how you get on and do get some sleep x

MsDee76 · 14/01/2024 01:18

Hey sorry I’m just now responding back but whew I’ve been through some things I had got sick went to the hosptial got cat scan they told me they saw a something followed up with my primary he gone tell I have the c word so I saw my urologist he was like it’s nothing on your bladder so then I called my rheumatologist and told him about the fat pad he told me my blood work is fine cause you they run all them tests on you when dealing with lupus I told him I just had a itch that just started but it wasn’t a ongoing itch he said because of the protein my urine lupus is affecting my kidney but my fat pad is a fat pad from ol the eight I had gain he gone check it and of course run blood work like he always do every time I go and I looked at my blood work result in my portal and everything looks good he made sure he sent them to ease my mind

MariaMagdalene · 14/01/2024 10:00

I hate when doctors say it’s fat from weight gain. That’s NOT true. I lost the weight when I did the AIP diet and those pads didn’t go away. In my case I believe they are caused by adrenal dysfunction because they appeared when I collapsed with fatigue and heart palpitations.

MsDee76 · 20/01/2024 04:36

Wow!!! Im definitely getting checked again Coming Wednesday Thank you for letting me know this

Absolutelynotfor2019 · 20/01/2024 11:18

I have lost 12kges(intentionally)since my post a few months ago and my lumps of fat above both clavicles have virtually disappeared . Interestingly the pins and needles I had in both hands at night have subsided as well!

Jenmom · 27/01/2024 23:04

Any update? I have this

Ygarcia3392 · 31/01/2024 23:37

I also have this squishy soft mass. But I only notice it more on my left side, it does not hurt but I noticed that during the day it get bigger you could notice it more if I pop my shoulder out. I also notice if i lift heavy stuff it get bigger and my back shoulder starts to to ache I felt a trigger point in the back of my shoulder dont know if that could be the cause went to my gp and at first told me it was a muscle. That will keep an eye on it went and blood work done everything good, first ultrasound 1.3 cm could be lipoma fatty mass or lymph node. Second ultrasound 6 months later and found nothing which is weird cause i could still see the mass did ct scan and nothing I just want to know what it is. I’m glad im not the only one I felt like I was going crazy thinking is just in my head. Know im just wondering if its a trigger point thats activated and causing the swelling.

Anyone have this go away?

Alee9 · 16/02/2024 20:23

I still have it and it’s been like 2-3 years. It’s only fat pads since I got checked

Ygarcia3392 · 16/02/2024 21:16

Mine is still there since 2021 but is only on the left side

Alee9 · 16/02/2024 21:21

I have it on both sides: but more fat on the left side

essnunez · 16/02/2024 23:02

Hi, mine has disappeared now since I first saw it in summer last year. I was heavier (in weight) back then so I started going to the gym and a week later had the fatty lumps appeared. I checked with my GP and said just observe and come back after a couple of weeks if still there. Luckily, it disappeared and almost 10kgs later now, its not come back. I am not sure what it was but hope this helps..

Anyone have this go away?

Edited

Unfortunately not. Has anyone tried castor oil packs to see if it helps with this swelling? I am about to give it a try.

JustLaura · 24/05/2024 16:25

Hi

Has anyone got any updates on their swelling?

Has anyone had an MRI? If so what was the outcome?

Thanks

JustLaura · 24/05/2024 16:27

SophieJo · 13/03/2023 18:38

Well I got the results today and it is just a lump of fatty tissue. No sign of lesions in my neck or chest which is a relief.

Hi

Would it be ok to ask you for an update?

Thanks

DonnaBab · 06/05/2023 09:42

@debbieculley11 this is really interesting, I have terrible issues with my neck and often feel pain in my arms as a result, numbness, tingling. Doctors referred me to physio. It come and goes, the pain that is. Swelling or fat pads are still there, but this is definitely worth noting. Thank you.

Hi

I've been googling (too much).

Do you have an update?

Thanks
