What is this swelling above my collar bone.

I have had it over 3 months and have booked doctors for next Friday. It is above my right collarbone, the swelling is soft and inside it is a movable long thin lump. It does not hurt at all and I haven't had any infections or bites etc. It does not bother me except it hasn't always been there so o worry about things like lymphoma. I know that apparently cancer lumps are usually hard and immobile so it's probably a lymph node....Has anyone had anything like this at all or any doctors with ideas please? I keep swinging between thinking I'm over reacting and then thinking I should rush to the doctors. In case you can't notice it, it's on the left in the picture but actually on my right. The redness is my terrible British tan Blush

What is this swelling above my collar bone.

Hi everyone little update on what happen with my CT Scan few months ago. Well I went in for my results and everything was negative and that it was only fat. Nothing to worry about. I still have them obviously but I’ve noticed that It went down so much on both sides. I will get another ultrasound in a few more months to see if there growing. I hope I eased a lot of you ladies minds. Any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for letting us know .. I also have these fat pads in my Collarbone, I also had an ultra sound scan on them about 1 year ago and they told me all was clear .. I had however put on three stone during lockdown .. I know .. I totally over indulged with food booze and cake!! I have since lost a stone and they seem to have got smaller, on the left side for some reason seems to be bigger than the right side, I am hoping while I shed the pound that these lumps gradually go.
hope this helps some of you.

The (telly) Skin Doctor is always removing fatty lumps off of people. All sorts of places on the body. Some lumps are huge.

DonnaBab · 19/09/2022 08:12

@Alee9 pleased everything was good. 😀

Just read through all these posts, but so many seem to have never rec'd real answers, but rather that doctors rule out problems and say it is nothing to worry about. I find that a bit unsettling. How could so many of us have this same issue, yet no answers as to why? Mine is on my left side, but I recently noticed the right side seems to be developing as well. Ultra sounds came back normal. Has anyone tried going go a naturopath or anything more natural? I noticed mine years ago. I lost weight and it didn't go away. I ended up with frozen shoulder on the left. That has resolved. When I am not taking Aleve on a regular basis there is actually quite a bit of pain that radiates the entire collar bone to the shoulder and up my neck on the left. I did get a couple ideas to test for from this post. Cushing and OTC - but I haven't heard from anyone here saying they specifically were diagnosed with either of these. I would love to hear from anyone who found definitive answers.

Error in my above post - the things I will be further investigating are CUSHING and TOS

KaileeB · 02/11/2022 15:22

What’s OTC? I want to know what the heck it is, doctors are dumb now days

Sorry - I meant TOS (Thoracic outlet syndrome)

DonnaBab · 02/11/2022 18:47

I believe mine to be just fat. However, I am going to ask my sports therapist to have a feel and she if she thinks maybe it feels more muscular then fatty, as I think it feels more like a muscle and it’s more visible when I move a certain way e.g shoulders back and stood up straight no slouching, and when I slouch they are not visible.

Choccymumma · 02/11/2022 19:17

Mine is a lipoma. Can cause pain in the area at times, I assume from pushing on the nerves.

DonnaBab · 02/11/2022 20:15

@Choccymumma rhats what they said mine was too. But I often think they feel like muscle 🤔

@tc84 the reason why nothing is being looked into about the causes. Its because we are women (the majority). We are viewed as complainers. They think it’s for vanity reasons we are concerned. There are no additional tests or support to find whether they can be gotten rid of. It’s a joke. this thread started so long ago and it’s still going, for several more years I’m sure.

I totally disagree with you. I could not have been treated better by the NHS. I have had scans, many tests and review appointments. Never once was I made to feel that I was concerned about it due to vanity!

PurpleRayne89 · 13/11/2022 14:34

@SophieJo I am glad this was your experience. However, as you can see. Your experience doesn’t reflect what other people on this thread have experienced. I wish we all could have had the same treatment as you did. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case.

Evora · 13/11/2022 22:19

TC84.... I have had this since I woke up on morning on 2017 and no one has figured out what it is yet! I know how you feel!

Nickybow86 · 25/11/2022 11:19

I have this on my right side.. along with a number of other symptoms.. I have an appointment with doc in 3 days to see what she thinks .. I can't feel any hardness in the swelling but it does ache sometimes.. I have it about 6 weeks now.

Evora · 27/11/2022 14:54

Nickyb, Any answers or indications your Physician knows what this is?

Evora · 27/11/2022 15:00

TC84, Have anyone literally put their finger on this yet? I recently went to my ENT with a new Sonogram and he saidhe did not know? It is frustrating that ist is visible it hurts but no one can name this baby!

Sundayf · 05/12/2022 06:28

Hi Meg. Did you ever figure out what was the cause of the sweeping? I have the same thing.

tc84 · 05/12/2022 16:34

I had ultrasound ... not a lipoma. I have begun to question if I might have lipedema or lymphedema and if this is related. I have similar spots below my knees, the one on the right is much more prominent. Has anyone here ever been diagnosed with any of those conditions?

Evora · 05/12/2022 20:33

Limphaedema/lymphadenopathy/adenopathy are generic terms for the swelling (edema) of lymphs but it does not tells one WHY? Lymphs are not normally enlarged, swollen or cause swelling. Infections as Mononucleosis/HIV/LUPUS/Rumathoid Arthritis cause swelling of these pea size lymphs. Their job is to clear away infections by filtering bacteria or viruses.
However on most of us the condition is now chronic (lasting longer than 1 one year) which is not normal as infections clear in a short time except for HIV or Arthritis which are chronic illnesses. Also note that most of us were not given any of the above diagnoses. I tested for all and came back negative for all.

Cheryl110 · 14/01/2023 20:28

Hi all! Has anyone had any further update on this?

I’ve worried myself sick with this but it jsut looks fatty to me and too scared to go Gp atm

Evora · 15/01/2023 12:15

To all here though this is not an answer to all it may be to some. An Infectious disease physician tested me for TB using QFT 4 plus 4T and I tested + positive for Latent TB I am pending now another definitive test called T-SPOT TB test. This is due to several factors... I was vaccinated with BCG when young and in my younger years I worked as a respiratory therapist and I worked in a TB clinic collecting sputum samples from the indigent population for the department of health. He explained to me that all his pulmonologists eventually turned + to the tuberculin test as result of exposure to patients in wards day in and out in their practice. Latent TB is not transmissable or in lungs and it is treatable with INH, Rifamping etc. And yes he said Cancer is is firm to the touch or hard in comparison to these swelling types of disease presentations in the clavicular/neck area. treatment is 3 mo of INH/4 mo of Rifampin.

Evora · 15/01/2023 12:25

Better to know than not knowing. Do not think first Physician will hit the nail in the head first visit! I had this since 2017 and seen every specialty and all were lost and dumbfounded one even told me to forget about it! But I never gave up!
Out of 12 doctors only one (1) thought of testing me for TB! Figure that one out! He said all and each should have tested me for it! Good luck!!

DonnaBab · 15/01/2023 12:37

@Cheryl110 i would firstly go and see your GP and try not to google - which brought you here 😉. I feel better about mine and I don’t have any other symptoms other than this fatty type tissue. I always look at women’s necks now while watching TV or in general when out and about (summer time) and I’ve seen it regularly on other women. Mine show more in different postures and movements - if I’m hunched and relaxed they don’t seem to show, if I’m stood straight and shoulders back they are there. Make the phone call and put your mind at ease. Xx
