OK chaps? I won't post the links again this time if you don't mind.

I will start the thread by saying that Paps is not ethereal and wispy but very groomed and chic. Bad luck to those who missed her

could this be "rolling" do you reckon?

I have a feeling that the ankles are kind of weak, was wondering about strengthening exercises like that.

Will try.

off to finish my essay now (am Virgo perfectionist). Will stand on one leg to do so.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/09/2006 12:21

From what I know, out and out spraining means the ankle swells up, and you need it wrapped, and you need medical attention. But straining, yeah, is often because of rolling your ankles. I thought it was perfectly normal (often, rolling them didn't hurt at all), but the physio said no, and it's unwise, too.

What happened, exactly?

FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2006 12:51

Sorry to hear this Filly I hope you can sort it out, it definitely sounds like it needs attention.

I am really tired and a bit throaty today but craving lots of fresh fruit and veg which is good. Had a terribly fatty heavy meal last night ( my choice) and actually didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would (but ignored my body and ate it anyway).

My mother is coming over tomorrow so it's going to be a looooooooooong day but I will get out to the gym for a bit so there are compensations. Having a rest today - not enough sleep as usual. My next resolution must be to get more sleep, I think...

fullmoonfiend · 24/09/2006 12:59

I am hungover and haven't actually been to bed but did drink lots of fruit juice last night (but a lot of silly cocktails too
Today I am being nice to myself; bananas, leek, carrot and potato soup, followed by grapes and dried apricots. Big sunday dinner later with oodles of veg.

And water.....lots of water....

Pann · 24/09/2006 13:35

Tsk tsk.

there is a drinker's thread somewhere.......hope you fluffies recover - in the words of U2 "It's a beautiful day!"

Medulla · 24/09/2006 13:49

Hello I'm a 10/10 newbie as recommended by FrannyandZooey (thanks) I don't even have 5 portions a day let alone 10 so I am going to need loads of encouragement. How did you all get started? Any tips for starting out?

FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2006 13:58

Welcome Medulla

I start the day with a big bowl of fruit and cereal, so I get about 5 every morning, which helps. You'll see as people report in on what they have eaten that we all do it differently. Pann favours smoothies which is an easy and quick way to get a lot of fruit into you. Most people eat a lot of vegetables with their evening meal as well.

There'll be a new thread tomorrow and I will post some links and suggestions on there. In between entertaining Mrs Zooey Sr who is a bit of a nutjob if truth be told...

Please can I join, on about 5 a day as well so will neeed help to get to 10. How much dried fruit are you allowed and juice etc

Medulla · 24/09/2006 14:39

Franny does your banana loaf coat as a portion?

Tatties · 24/09/2006 16:27

Welcome Medulla and ills, I am a new recruit too

Today I have had: glass of orange juice, chopped apple on my porridge, some deeelicious raspberries, raw carrot and a banana. So that's 5 so far. Just made some leek & potato soup for dinner so that will be a couple more before the day is through.

I think it can be hard to make it to 10 if you leave it to chance or you haven't been shopping for a while. It's easier when you've just been to the shops and have lots of lovely fresh fruit staring at you. I also think it's a good idea to build it into your routine - say have a rule to start each meal with a piece of fruit. I am enjoying trying out different fruit mixed into my porridge.

I have ordered a fruit & veg box for next week, so we'll see how that goes, I'm hoping it will alleviate the problem of running out before I can get to the shops again.

As for exercise, (not my forte) I aim to go for a swim this evening. If I can prise myself away from ds for a bit...

(Oh Franny, if you get a minute, I think you may be able to advise here )

Papillon · 24/09/2006 16:39

FMF I like your style, staying up all night. Think I will try that very soon as in dire need of a night out.

Have had about 5-7 portions last 3 days. Its been ice creams at air shows and pommes frites at pools. Also just finished ´reading´BJ Diary, meaning nose in book and chips in mouth!

Lots of vege coming up for tea

fullmoonfiend · 24/09/2006 17:37

Paps, I am definitely too old for this lark...I feel a night in front of The Royal, with tartan slippers on and cocoa, coming on

fullmoonfiend · 24/09/2006 17:37

but dancing all night deffo counts as good exercise, right??

Papillon · 24/09/2006 17:40

wonderful exercise for the body and soul I love to dance.

Papillon · 24/09/2006 17:44

actually FMF if you are about could "flash" my piccy up for you...

FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2006 18:03

Welcome ills, it's great to see new vegetable lovers

I will post some links tomorrow (we start a new thread every Monday morning) which give guidance on how many of everything counts as a portion, but as we are eating 10 instead of 5 I am never quite sure how to interpret the rules.

The standard advice is that juice can only count for one portion, and the same for lentils and beans, and dried fruit. I think we have sort of agreed that the biggest variety of foods is the best route, so probably trying to include some fruit, some dried fruit, some veg, some raw veg and some pulses is a good idea.

However just do it how you want to, and don't get too hung up on counting.

I am pretty sure that my banana loaf could count towards your 10, actually. There are loads of bananas in it, and raisins.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 24/09/2006 19:00

fell down the stairs .

Last time I was dancing with my friend's 2 yo .

ffs, why can't I be saving an old lady or something?

I keep falling (I am very clumsy anyway, tbh, giant heifer that I am) and landing on it at an angle. Actually I keep doing it to either foot. It does swell and need strapping, though I can walk on it now.

Hmmm. Am just not sure if it is clumsiness and bad luck, or something

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 24/09/2006 19:03

Ack, that was only the bottom half of my post, how did that happen?

Argh.

Anyway.

Hello new people.

Have eaten lots of bananas

Um...aside from that...pizza and...crisps...to cheer me up...and lots of fruit of the cocoa tree...and a peppermint tea...um...and a single tomato....

FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2006 19:08

Filly, I used to do that constantly and was always falling off pavements alarmingly. I can't think of anything that has happened to stop it (maybe giving up drinking?) but it seemed to start after I fell down a big ditch and (I think) broke one of the little bones in my foot. I say I think, because I never got it seen to, and it healed eventually, but I think it must have left a weakness in that foot. NQC's exercises sound good.

OP posts:
GreenLumpyTonsils · 24/09/2006 19:12

I have a crap foot as well, I am always turning my ankle and slipping off kerbs . Sorry to hear about your ankle Filly, what a nuisance

I have had carrots, green beans and potatoes today, and half a glass of orange juice, and NO exercise...in my defence, I am at death's door. Must do better tomorrow.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 24/09/2006 19:14

greeny, i am sorry to hear of the lumpiness, that sounds very very dire. Are you taking lots of vitamin c, as my mother would say?

hmmm

have given up drinking.

actually i think that might be what triggered it

or maybe having kids, which happened around the same time.

FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2006 19:16

Greeny what sort of death? Is it unicorn related and does it stop you from answering emails?

OP posts:
GreenLumpyTonsils · 24/09/2006 19:18

No, no, I WILL reply to your lovely email - it's just that I have had ds1's horrible infection for the past few days, have not slept in 48 hours, and am feverish, achey and generally horribly ill I struggled to the walk-in centre today to get some antibiotics and the doctor said he had never seen such an angry-looking throat infection, there are orange and purple lumps and big greeny-white craters. Pity me, please.

GreenLumpyTonsils · 24/09/2006 19:19

spent my brother's entire visit lying under a blanket moaning patherically, it was crap
