OK chaps? I won't post the links again this time if you don't mind.

I will start the thread by saying that Paps is not ethereal and wispy but very groomed and chic. Bad luck to those who missed her

Oh blah

sorry I could not get it to work for you

But yes they are there and will stay there until you get me to take them down

Ok, I had quiche at the Belgian's house. Well, it was mostly a big pile of vegetables. And my cake was popular, well, I liked it, the kids were not so sure, but they'd just had marzipan chocolate ...

No extra exercise today, probably running tomorrow morning.

Clary · 20/09/2006 00:21

quickly checking in to say I had a proper dinner (unusual as DH out) of sausage casserole with lots of tinned toms, carrots, mushrooms and onions; plus some green beans. So counting 2 portions for that which takes me to 10.

Tried to get 10 mins of exercise by making dinner at a run and intermittently running up and down stairs till I turned my ankle at the bottom step flourish! ah well.

Bozza · 20/09/2006 10:54

I got my last two portions in yesterday by having a big pile of sauteed leek, some cabbage and whatever veg was in the shepherd's pie (tinned tomatoes, onion, carrots, celery, swede, I think).

Still no exercise. Can't get my head round what to do and when.

Today so far I have had one glass of orange juice (1) and some crudites (one carrot, half red pepper, cucumber)(2). So 7 to go but have 2 tomatoes, 2 plums, 5 small slices of melon and a packet of figs on my desk.

Clary · 20/09/2006 12:42

Ok so far today have had museli, 2 x apples, 1 nectarine, 2 plums (so 4); lunch of cauliflower flan (lots of cauli) with carrots and peas so that?s 3 more.
Cycled in to work - 15 mins quite hard going in the wind today.

Bozza, re exercise - can you factor it into your day? eg how you get to work/walk home from school dead fast or whatever.
Or maybe go out for a run/fast walk in the evening. Only takes 20 mins.

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2006 12:56

Good morning my lovely new disciples

Bozza I really struggled with the exercise part until I realised I was going to have to make it a priority and do something drastic, so I joined a gym and love it.

Other people do exercise tapes either with or without the children, go cycling, running, or just a brisk walk would do it. Work out when you could fit it in and then just get out for a walk if nothing else appeals.

Everyone seems to be doing brilliantly on the fruit and veg front - except me. The cauli and pepper I bought to eat with a dip are still sitting in the fridge, and dp has just finished the hummus

Have had 4 portions of fruit plus soya milk for breakfast, and just about to eat a clementine and an apple. Then out to cafe for fruit of the cocoa tree as Filly would say. Where is Filly? I need a sheep dog or something...

Room for a little one on here?

So far today I have had: handful of grapes, glass of apple juice, mashed banana in my porridge, mashed avocado on toast. I do really like fruit and veg, but I need to make a concerted effort to eat them as snacks, iykwim. Sometimes it's just too easy to reach for the chocolate and biscuits... So I think this thread might help keep me motivated!

Am just about to go for a brisk walk into town, but will check in again later

Bozza · 20/09/2006 15:17

Well you are persuading me. Not least because I would like to loose a bit of weight. I used to go to a gym near work but with only working 3 days and other things coming up after my maternity leave with DD it just wasn't worth it.

I have been considering joining the one at the local baths because then I will be able to take the children swimming for free and it is quite cheap so even if I only went a couple of times a week it would be worth it.

For today though it will just have to be running up and down the stairs or something. Will not finish work until nearly 5 and then have to drive 20 miles to collect DS from CM and DD from nursery and then home for tea, reading, playing and bath. And then DH is away. You are chipping away at my resistance though.

I am building up to my 10:
Orange juice - 1
carrot/pepper/cucumber sticks - 2 = 3
peas from the pod - 1 = 4
2 plums - 1 = 5
5 small slices of melon - 1 = 6
packet of figs 1 = 7

fullmoonfiend · 20/09/2006 17:34

so, those who ahave been doing this for 7 weeks - anyone feeling a huge difference? I'm not sure if I really do have more energy or wheher it's just becuase I have to have energy at the moment, IFYKWIM. The big test will be how long I can stave off the flu and colds which dog me every year as soon as September comes - they're all falling like flies all around me and yet, touching much wood, nary a sniffle yet.

oh lordy, I've gone and said it now

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 20/09/2006 17:45

hello....

god I have not been here for ages...this thread isn't showing up in my "threads you're on" list and I am far too useless to remember where it lives...

ok...yesterday, crappola, dp's b'day (and no, Franny, we don't have two virgos in the house...we have three, ds is also a little Virgo, albeit an august one)...the closest I came to fruit and veg was marsy's lemon drizzle cake...mmmm...oh and there were bananas in the jelly...and I think beetroot colouring? Any points for agar-agar?

But today I am right on track. Veg box day. 6 bananas, 1 punnet of tomatos, some pomegranate juice, 1 peach, 2 pears, some raisins, fruit of the cocoa tree, naturally, but this is a Good Thing as I am trying to cut down on caffeine...an orange...am soon going to eat an enormous, home grown bowl of salad and the Best Grapes in the Whole World (go Riverford! go Riverford!). It would be a big bonus if I could download it from somewhere.

And my ankle is way way better, I have a 2 week respite from essays and I got a new MP3 player for my birthday, so will be heading off to the gym in the next few days.

Oooh can anyone suggest some nice exercisy music? I like stuff like the Smiths and REM and Tori Amos and Bright Eyes and Neutral Milk Hotel...and also Putamayo...does Putamayo do an exercise music cd, hmmm, hmmm.... The shit music at the gym is partly responsible for me not going very often...(I suppose it is concievably that I am also partly responsible)

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2006 18:31

Well I don't know if you will like any of this Filly, but I will tell you what I have on the mp3 player for the gym that works well:

Velvet Underground (selected tracks only), Blur, Prince, Kasabian, Iggy Pop, Beck, Scissor Sisters, Depeche Mode , Fatboy Slim, Rolling Stones, Teardrop Explodes, T Rex, Dandy Warhols, Groove Armada, and, bizarrely, Air (particularly good for cycle machine)

Things I thought might be good but really aren't - Joy Division - makes you want to curl up in a corner and moan
The Beatles - far too relaxing
P J Harvey - far too distracting

FMF I was feeling fairly full of energy but have had a slump this week. I think I must get more sleep.

Tatties nice to see you

Good evening everyone, nice to some more people

Bit of a slack day food wise, probably about 6. Massaged my soul instead and spent the afternoon in the forest, which was wonderful.

Having an early night, I feel tired too and have a new book to read about Thailand funnily enough given today coup events.

Good to see you Tilly, was beginning to think your sprouts had morphed into triffods leaving you at peril, unable to reach your computer to start a thread on what to do and how many portions per triffod!

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2006 19:21

I am wondering if I could remind all of you to go and look at Overrun's beautiful children on Member Profiles - put there at no inconsiderable effort to her and myself

They are such cute lads and I am sure she would like to read some nice comments about the photos. The links are earlier in this thread.

OP posts:
Papillon · 20/09/2006 19:40

oh gosh yes thanks for the reminder! overrun have seen your boys I love red hair and your twins are very sweet.

Tatties · 20/09/2006 22:19

Good evening

Well I had my walk, with heavy toddler in tow, at least 10 minutes uphill. I have eaten a few dates, a bag of yoghurt coated raisins (anyone else find these a good chocolate substitute?), a raw carrot, home-made pasta sauce with various veggies, and more grapes. So added to what I had this morning, not doing too bad am I? On my way to 10 I think. It's definitely good writing it down.

Oh, Filly and Franny, may I just say what excellent taste in music you have. No shame in being a Depeche Mode fan

OOh well tonight tea was fish and chips a treat on way home from dentist in this house.

But I did manage an evening snack of cherry toms, handful of raisins and a banana which takes me to 10.

Franny when are you going to start making bad jokes about me then???

Bozza · 21/09/2006 09:22

Still no exercise yesterday although I managed to finish off my quota with two sweetcorn wheels and 1.5 red peppers.

Clary · 21/09/2006 10:38

So far today: museli for breakfast and a banana. Snacks of another banana, an apple and handful of cherry tomes.

BTW I think DS1 is playing this game too: for school lunch y/day he had tomato, cucumber, lettuce, green beans, carrots, apple, plus fruit at breakfast and break-time snack!

Overrun · 21/09/2006 11:42

Must just say that I did my aerobics class last night, so much fun, I really feel so good afterwards.
Anyway today, grapefruit, 2 bananas and 2 apples and a roast veg tart left over from yesterdays tea.

Intend to do a pilates dvd while twins are napping.
papillon thanks for looking at photos,. Franny it really wasn't worth the effort was it . Esp cos I can't access members profiles. i have sent a messge to mumsnet hq so we will see what the problem is, ho hum.

FrannyandZooey · 21/09/2006 13:03

I am still trying to size up our newcomers and have not managed to make bad jokes about them yet. Very glad to see you all anyway plus some of our old stalwarts.

I am still craving crap and don't know what to do really - keep just eating bits of what I want and hope it will pass. Have done something odd to my wrist (now on the old thread that would have led to huge guffaws for a start) and am hoping it is not going to make things at the gym difficult.

I have had 6 portions so far - all fruit as usual, except soya milk, but a big veg stew for dinner so hopefully about half will be from veggies today.

fullmoonfiend · 21/09/2006 13:29

well today, no exesise yet, as am at work, but have eaten handful of apricots, an apple, a cheese and tomato sandwich, a carrot, some grapes, a smoothie and a pomegranite, so I feel quite pleased with myself.

(F&Z - closet Depeche mode fan here too!)

Bozza · 21/09/2006 13:39

Today so far:
fresh peas
melon (enough for 1.5)
pear
figs
orange juice
have kiwi on desk to make up the 0.5
So still need to do 4. Hmmm not going to be easy as have run out of fruit.

Clary · 21/09/2006 13:50

OK further snacks of Orange and very big clementine, plus veg chili for lunch - was going to count it as 2 but itwas so hot (from canteen) that I only ate half
Have an apple still to eat. That takes me to 8 I think.

Papillon · 21/09/2006 20:25

Out all day and did not eat a whole lot of good things, twas a nice day otherwise. Have had about 5 portions at a scrape

Not much encouragement to you Franny and your quavering of fresh and fruity over crap!

How is your ankle Clary?
