And why? Sorry to ask, but I really don't want to go back on the pill (and dh doesn't want me to either) and I'm not sure how to approach this - I've got 2 boys, (12 weeks and 2yrs) and I'm breastfeeding, but need to address this before our luck runs out!

Mirena - I'd forget to take the Pill - once in can forget about it apart from check ups and need to change after 5 years or so -, it is low dose of hormones so not as strong as the Pill, reliable (as much as any), benefits are lighter or no periods, safe when b'feeding (dd was about 10 weeks old)

expatinscotland · 15/09/2006 15:35

Diaphragm.

I cannot use the combined pill or any combined hormone contraception b/c of my age and family medical history.

Tried progesten-based contraception and it intensified my PND, broke my skin out in boil cyst acne, killed my sex drive and cause breakthrough bleeding.

Don't want to use the copper coil b/c don't want longer, heavier periods.

So got fitted for a diaphragm b/c DH and I both HATE condoms.

We're not the most fertile couple, either.

admylin · 15/09/2006 15:36

I had side effects with the pill but now I take the yasmin pill which is one that isn't supposed to make you put weight on and it seems to be OK so far. Why do you not want to take the pill?
Even though I'm on it I am constantly scared it won't work. I would like my dh to have the op. but he's scared.

Tawny75 · 15/09/2006 15:37

I have the implanon implant in my arm.

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:37

What's Mirena LIZS? crap I know... Also we will want to try for dc3 after a couple of years I think - can it be removed/stopped/whatever?

OP posts:
nailpolish · 15/09/2006 15:38

i have a copper coil because i hate all these artificial hormones (ie pill, mirena) and i couldnt be bothered with the faff of a cap or similar

i would recommend it

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 15:39

i dont have heavy or long periods on the copper coil

expatinscotland · 15/09/2006 15:39

I agree the diaphragm is a bit of a faff. To have it fitted, too. You need to be at a stable weight as well.

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:39

Admymlin, seems every pill I ever used had side effects that didn't sit right with me... Dh fed up of mood swings I imagine!

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:40

Is coil fitting horrible?

OP posts:
nailpolish · 15/09/2006 15:40

no not horrible

uncomfortable for a nanosecond, but thats all

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:40

Though of course nothing on another labour! durr..

intergalacticwalrus · 15/09/2006 15:40

I was going to ask this myself, as I have just had DS2, and although sex is the furthest from my mind than it could be at the moment, it would be nice to be prepared! I don;t want to use the pill anymore, as both times I got pregnant were when I was on the pill!!! I was always good about taking it too, and as far as I know I didn;t have anything to stop it working, like D&V etc. As much as I love my boys, I REALLY don;t want another one!

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:42

Oh come on IGW are you not swinging from the chandelier??

OP posts:
admylin · 15/09/2006 15:44

So how about your dh having thesnip? Mines too scared but if I couldn't take the pill and nothing else was comfortable or "enjoyable" he would have to!

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:45

Becuse he's crap and he wouldn't... But mainly because we want another in a couple of years.

OP posts:
intergalacticwalrus · 15/09/2006 15:46

Yeah, I am. I look great with my lovely saggy jelly belly, complete with stretchmarks. My CS wound is well attractive as well. I'm sexy as hell, me. DP can't keep his hands off....

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:50

In addition to all those above I also am constantly slathering myself in Vitamin e oil to get rid of the cs scar and stretch marks... Hang on, I've just realised why I need the sodding contraceptive! (hanging my head, must remember to shut the bathroom door)

Mirena is an iud - like a coil but not copper and has emits a low dose of hormones. Worth reading up about the potential side effects and insertion is uncomfortable (more than a smear for example)but not too traumatic especially in the post natal period. Can be removed at any time and your fertility returns within a cycle. Costs a bit though so doctors tend to recommend it for a longer term use rather than if you may want another baby in a year or so.

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 15:55

Thanks. Better get reading quick.

NomDePlume · 15/09/2006 16:01

None.

Sophiev73 · 15/09/2006 16:04

NomdePlume are you reckless or want another? Or do you put it in the lap of the gods? I'm not being facetious, was thinking of doing the same myself...

Sorry I hope that didn't come out too rude...

We used withdrawal for a while.

Again, it took us months to conceive both times, so it worked for us.
