I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

naswm happy birthday!

Berrie · 03/10/2006 09:10

Morning all - how are we all doing?

kokeshi · 03/10/2006 09:15

Happy birthday naswm...I wondered where y'all had gone. I checked into the other thread and I could all I could hear was tumbleweed and the echo of my own voice, fnar! Hope everyone's well and stay strong folks.

naswm · 03/10/2006 09:57

eurgh..................... (lol)

zippy539 · 03/10/2006 10:03

Morning all. So glad I didn't give in last night. Today is tricky. I have a very, very scary meeting this afternoon and if it all goes tits up I'd like to reserve the right to have one, just one, glass of wine. Am I on a slippery slope?

OP posts:
Berrie · 03/10/2006 11:26

Sounds like a reasonable excuse Zippy but if you're anything like me, you can make an excuse out of just about anything. For instance, if it goes really well will you want to celebrate? Join me...go on you know you want to...let's not drink tonight!

zippy539 · 03/10/2006 11:50

Berrie - am I really that transparent? Oh, okay then, I'm not going to drink today.

OP posts:
Berrie · 03/10/2006 12:14

nah - we just share the same problem. Good luck for this afternoon.
Felt really jealous of your important meeting actually which shocked me. Feel like a non person now I'm a stay at home Mum.

Berrie · 03/10/2006 12:29

Zippy, wondering all about you now. Imagining you in the city in a office tower block with a sharp suit, killer heels and a shiny bob. Now seeing you in a country village, sitting by the aga, putting together the final notes to your business plan making homegrown organic ready meals. Now in an inner city high rise flat, off to see the manager at Natwest to see if now you've an extra shift at Tesco, whether she'll lend you enough money for a new car.
I suppose I could look back down the thread for clues. I get so confused...am not even sure there isn't one of us called Zinney!!

dinny · 03/10/2006 14:42

good luck, Zippy

where you live, Berrie?

ds is teething and in v bad move - am stressed out!

moomooland · 03/10/2006 15:54

Hi everyone
Happy Birthday naswm for yesterday btw and welcome southeastastralplain how's it going.

Good luck for your meeting zippy (me jealous too berrie - wouldn't have believed I would miss stuff like that either after all my moaning to be sahm, i'm so fickle!!)

Would love glass of wine tonight (can't believe thinking about it already, not even teatime!!) - but seeing everyone else has made their declaration I'll be good...i think . Willpower is woeful at the minute but need to motivate myself again, help!!

Berrie · 03/10/2006 16:11

Ah moomoo, even reading the words 'glass of wine' on your post sent a shiver. I decided by 2.30 pm yesterday that I would after all drink last night but somehow I didn't.
Dinny, I live in Leicestershire.
What type of meeting do you think Zippy is at?

Berrie · 03/10/2006 16:13

I've heard whiskey is good for teething Dinny, for you obviously!

Berrie · 03/10/2006 19:58

oh dear where are you all, not sure I can do it...

southeastastralplain · 03/10/2006 19:59

i'm here, dry as a bone! it's friday i'm worried about! (and thursday)

Berrie · 03/10/2006 21:10

Still dry - I've done it now I guess, bed soon!

moomooland · 03/10/2006 23:23

Can't believe I'm up so late for me...anyway, just wanted to let you know I made it through evening without the evil wine, wooohoooo hurray!!

Berrie · 04/10/2006 09:48

Well done moomoo! Do you still feel the euphoria of not drinking. I just feel depressed about it all this time. I'm still managing it though...

moomooland · 04/10/2006 10:06

Morning all

Berrie, I just can't seem to get the same motivation either that I had during first few days. Prob because I still miss those couple of glasses in the evening. But as have discovered my moderate (?!) consumption was actually averaging 20-30 units a week that just scares me. Plus all those horror articles everywhere at the mo about alcohol too...eek! Thank god for this thread (Zippy we all owe you)

Declaration time - I will probably want to have a drink tonight but I will not (tomorrow will be different story though, I think)

vvvvvvv · 04/10/2006 10:17

hey, iwas just reading some of the posts i would just like to say that i have a drinking problem andits been a month today that i've been clear it has been hard but just like to say it can be done.

zippy539 · 04/10/2006 10:19

Skulking in wearing a huge shawl of shame. I did have a drink last night...One SMALL glass in the pub and one of those small bottles (the really, really small ones...) on the train home. . Contemplated coming on here and fibbing but decided to come clean!

However - I am definitely, definitely NOT drinking today and don't intend to drink now until Sunday when we're having people for lunch.

Well done Berrie and Moomoo. Berrie - you did brilliantly last night, especially as you had decided that you would then didn't.

OP posts:
zippy539 · 04/10/2006 10:21

vvvvv- that's brilliant, what an achievement. Thanks for the support.

Berrie - it was just a very boring work meeting but scary none the less!

OP posts:
zippy539 · 04/10/2006 10:30

berrie - just seen your earlier post about aga/killer heels and psml.

I'm a freelancer working from home. I share my office space with the ironing board, three sparkling crowns, a pile of unpaid bills a Mr Incredibles suit and anything in the house that doesn't have a home. Yesterdays meeting was scary cause it was one of those rare occasions when I had to put on proper clothes, leave the house and go and shake hands with proper grown ups.

dinny · 04/10/2006 11:59

Zippy, think you did really well to drink in such moderation! well done! I didn't drink last night - came home from yoga soooo flaked out, just had a hot chocolate, Crunchie and went to be early.

tonight - not drinking either. will drink this weekend as away in Devon.... am going to try and not drink wine except a glass with food though!

Berrie · 04/10/2006 19:27

You see I was thinking it would be a bit easier tonight because the urge wasn't as strong but am now thinking that because the urge isn't strong I'm alright to have one.
Have had another realisation too. If I were to have a drink now, I would sit down, put the tv on and that would be that. Without a drink I really should tidy round, iron something for tomorrow etc. Maybe I'm not an alcoholic, I just hate housework!
