I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

Gawd - gasping on a drink AND a roll up. No booze in house so about to hang out window and have sly fag while dh in the bath.

oh, Zippy, hilarious! enjoy your fag!

Hi everyone. Sounds like we were good company for each other last night. Half bottle of red for me too oops . Gave into temptation watching rick stein's prog on bbc2 at French med while it was blowing a gale here. Then switched to C4 to that McKeith woman's show that always makes me want to drink and eat even more because she's so annoying...

Anyway, I'm off to pour the remainder of last night's bottle down the sink so that I can definitely say...I'm not drinking today. Anybody joining me?

Berrie · 28/09/2006 12:55

Yeah, I turned into a sinner last night too. today I've been blubbing because my Mum rang me up this morning to see if I could think of anything she and my sister could get my daughter whose 1st birthday it is today. I just feel so hurt that my lovely baby warrants so little effort. Am I over reacting? Don't think I will be abstaining tonight...

CountessDracula · 28/09/2006 13:02

oh god i'm getting bored of it now

I have done nearly 2 weeks i think i deserve a drink! (oh apart from half a bottle of wine on my wedding anniversary) Why did I decide on a month off ??

zippy539 · 28/09/2006 18:30

See what happens when I don't make my morning declaration - I have a glass of wine at lunchtime. In my defence I was trapped in a restaurant with very grumpy dd and my MIL so I'll write it off as medicinal. Was sorely tempted to buy a bottle on the way home ("I've had one anyway so might as well go the whole hog" logic). Managed to resist cause I'm definitely going to be drinking over the weekend as loads of family do's.

Please, please, please don't let me drink on Monday as bit worried this weekend could be the beginning of a very steep slippery slope...

Berrie - sorry about your Mum. Could it be that she thought you might have something specific in mind, or just doesn't feel very confident choosing for a wee one/doesn't know what you've already got. I wouldn't take it personally, tbh.

CD - it is a bit boring after a bit, isn't it? I think the two week mark is really tricky. If you're determined to go for the month, just bite the bullet. If you can go the whole month you'll be smug beyond belief.

Hi everyone

dinny · 28/09/2006 18:51

hello - how weird we all drank yesterday! I ended up having half a bottle of white and subsequently felt all ratty this morning.

am definitely not drinking today and am going to be strict again next week. will drink at the weekend if I want but not in the week. Zippy, fear not, will not let you drink on Monday

Berrie · 28/09/2006 18:52

Zippy - slippery slope very real, still haven't clambered to top after holiday

moomooland · 30/09/2006 18:55

Hellooooooooo - how is everyone?? I'm drinking tonight, has everyone else fallen off the wagon too...

dinny · 30/09/2006 20:18

hi, Moomoom, I'm drinking tonight too! know Zippy has big birthday weekend! prob have to knuckle back down on Monday!

Toady · 30/09/2006 20:57

And me!!

Toady · 30/09/2006 20:57

Not that I'm proud of it

naswm · 01/10/2006 17:12

Birthday this weekend too....

zippy539 · 02/10/2006 09:33

Right. It's Monday. I've been drinking every single day since Thursday - though on the positive side, I have def drunk a lot less overall than I would have done pre this thread!

But got to get back on the wagon now, so I'm not drinking today. Anyone else?

Morning all. Hi zippy, hope you enjoyed your weekend. I'll not be drinking tonight either. Managed to drink 3 bottles of wine since wed night and I'm meant to be cutting down?! Plus have worked out that's 30 units aaarrgghhh.

Good luck tonight - I'm determined to get back on track too, no drinking on school nights

southeastastralplain · 02/10/2006 11:08

can i join this thread? giving up for good

Berrie · 02/10/2006 11:21

welcome southeastastralplain - that's a mouthfull! good luck to you!
Are any of us still on the wagon properly? Where are we all at?
This thread was great for me when I first joined but it all went wrong after my holiday. However though I've been drinking since then, I have been much more restrained and have more control in other ways too! I'd really like to go back to how it was before my holiday, it gave me such a high! So...
I'm not going to drink tonight.

dinny · 02/10/2006 13:00

hello - good to see everyone back! I drank far too much yesterday (out for lunch in town with sister) so am NOT drinking tonight!
welcome, Southeastastralplain! this thread is v motivating!

after a weekend of drinking more than have been, tummy definitely looks more lardy again! ggggrrrrrr!

hey, America's Top Model starts tonight! yay!

naswm · 02/10/2006 18:16

Saw your thread from last night SEA - how are you feeling now?

southeastastralplain · 02/10/2006 18:27

i feel ok now just tired, felt like i was having heart palpitations earlier though and i whacked my ear on the door frame last night and it hurts!

zippy539 · 02/10/2006 18:40

Blimey - it's difficult to get back into the swing again, isn't it? I've been sitting here wondering if I can pop out to the pub for a wee glass of wine (dh is being brilliantly strict about enforcing our 'no booze in the house rule') but having reread the thread I'm going to stick to my guns and my declaration. Def not going to drink tonight (she tells herself firmly through gritted teeth).

It's my Birthday today, so I assume I am let off? Bit late if not though....

Berrie · 02/10/2006 19:50

Was so going to have a stella, but have made myself a big cup of tea instead. Feel the smallest worm of pride beginning and know that i will feel really good about myself tomorrow.
Naswm definatly let off - Happy birthday!!
