I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

moomooland · 26/09/2006 15:54

Hi everyone. Welcome AllieM and hope you feeling bit better naswm.

I'll be joining you tonight again Zippy. I worked out an average weeks units from dinny's info the other day and still reeling.... Wine is so very, very evil!

Berrie · 26/09/2006 16:10

Hello AllieM hope this works for you as well as it did for me before I went on holiday and spoiled it!
Naswm hope you are feeling a little better now.
I only had one can last night but it was one more than I meant to. Had a REALLY crappy day yesterday dragging the kids and my Mum round the shops looking for an outfit for my brother's upcoming wedding. But as I am a fat biffa, the only clothes in my size are styled for old ladies. My Mum couldn't understand why I didn't like all the flowery tents she was thrusting at me. So, running out of ideas now.
That was my excuse by the way...obviously I came home and stuffed my self with beer and chocolate!

naswm · 26/09/2006 16:48

hi guys. Feeling okay now, despite counselling session this afternoon. Not sure my will power will be strong enough tonight. But I'll try

zippy539 · 26/09/2006 17:46

Come on naswm - you can do it! Remember -it's for one night only.

naswm · 26/09/2006 18:19

yes but Zippy I am hopeless at this and need the escapism

dinny · 26/09/2006 21:46

Hi, Naswm, oh, you do sound low. can I ask what counselling is for - alcohol problem? please come and talk to use here whenever you want - not that can offer any constructive words but always here to listen...

well, I'm being crap today and have just opened a Smirnoff Ice - just done knackerign yoga class and am going to watch Lost and have a drink whist doing it. so there! till steering clear of the wine though - feel so much better!

zippy - re fags - definite cross-addiction,I did the same but t'other way round when I stopped smoking!

dinny · 26/09/2006 21:46

sorry, meant to say hello and welcome to Allie too

CountessDracula · 26/09/2006 21:48

ooh look found fellow non drinkers

Am having an alcohol free becks tonight as am bored of oj & tonic

dinny · 26/09/2006 21:53

hello, CD - this thread is such a help (well, except am having a mini-break tonight in honour of Lost... )

will you be watching?

Berrie · 27/09/2006 07:29

Morning everyone!
ok I'm trying a different approach here, I haven't had a drink today or chocolate or anything else bad yet... and I've been up an hour already!

zippy539 · 27/09/2006 09:30

Morning all.

Naswm - how did you get on last night? Keep coming back here even if it cutting back seems impossible at the moment.

Dinnie - re fags..yup I started drinking when I stopped smoking and now seem to be going in reverse. Once I get to a month of cutting back the booze, I'm going to go and get some hypnosis to quit the fags AGAIN. God knows what my next addiction will be. Hopefully something harmless like knitting. Watch this space.

Berrie - you are a veritable saint.

Welcome CD. I didn't know you could get alcohol free Becks [rushing off to the shop emoticon...]

Right, got a big weekend coming up - ds and me both have birthdays so WILL be drinking Friday and Sunday, but in the meantime...I'm not drinking today. Anyone else?

Morning all. Half a bottle last night. Not great. But could have been worse I guess

Berrie · 27/09/2006 15:41

naswm - definatly could have been much worse, I'd feel good at that.
Zippy - laughing, am almost godlike now though still no alcohol, 1 weetabix, salad sandwich, handful of raisins and it's 3.30!!!

naswm · 27/09/2006 17:30

Hold on to your halo Zippy . I;m feeling awful today - and all I can think about right now is getting the DSs to bed and hiding behind a bottle of wine. Shoudlnt be saying that on this thread really should I? It;s not the first time I have thought I shouldnt be here

dinny · 27/09/2006 19:36
