For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

"trading the pleasuredome for mueseli and mixed fruit..God how it hurts..."

LOL and at painful truth

yes well let's have less of that today, campers

we only like Wholesome Pleasures around here

Currently drinking a 3 fruit smoothie and eating courgette cake -similar to carrot cake.
Had roast veg for tea last night -can't remember those idea that was but great.
Still waiting for the energy kick but already my smug halo is switched on.

Morning all.
Franny, they are all better thanks, and we all had a good nigths sleep so hurray.
So far today I have had, fruit and fibre which going by the guide would suggest I have had 1 portion, also nectarine and glass of blueberry juice.
A flying start methinks.
Pruni, I have taken to doing my exercise in front of my kids, frantic dancing or step ups on the stairs, they joined in the dancing and seemed to find me sweating on the stairs very amusing. so just think of it as entertainment for the kids

Panboy · 15/08/2006 09:17

Pruni - depends how old your wee ones are - dancing around with them appears to count, and I play footie in the back garden with my 6y.o. dd on occassion, and that definitely counts!!

Farewell pleasuredome - embrace the blameless future!!
The roast veg thing is very effective, AND it came from St. Frances(swoon)..
ok - muesli(even spelling it right, now) with half a ton of dried fruit, and a grapefruit for breakfast...
and yes, changing one's attitude and practice toward food IS a bit of a revolution..but "improvement means change"...(fascile statement no.23 in a series of 34,9672)

Charlee · 15/08/2006 11:09

Lol i may be only 19, but i don't feel like it some days belive me!

Especially with a toddler and one in the oven.

Panboy · 15/08/2006 11:55

Am being visited by 'the squits'(no, not the new family from no 12...) - just thought I'd bring a little colour to the thread.....

Overrun · 15/08/2006 12:34

Oh dear Pan boy, do you think that your body is protesting about this sudden influx of fibre? I'm sure it will clear up in no time, don't let it put you off, please!

NotQuiteCockney · 15/08/2006 12:43

aviatrix, Franny's advice on tummy exercise is spot-on. I'd recommend trying either TaeBo or Pilates, if you can stand a tape?

Otherwise, yeah, go for crunches type exercises, just lifting up your head and shoulders, not pulling on your neck and head with your hands.

I'm afraid I'm not doing well on 10/10 - I had maybe 2 portions of fruit and veg yesterday. Oh, 3? Nowhere near 5. And no real exercise, just some wandering about.

Hoping to do better today, bought some fruit, anyway.

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2006 13:02

Pruni, we have had suggestions of skipping / exercise tapes / hula hooping / yoga / pilates etc. all of which you could do while ds naps (does he nap?) A brisk walk with the buggy, or game of football would count I reckon. And yes dancing definitely counts (well, it better had...)

I managed a bike ride one evening, am going to aerobics tonight, NQC goes running and cycling while her boys are at nursery / school, or with ds2 on the back of her bike. Pan's dd is at school, I think? How do other people fit stuff in, any more ideas?

Chestnutty I can see your halo from here

Pan did we need to know that, strictly speaking? I think we already had enough 'colour' with the blackberry vomit, myself

I know people who run with their kids on bikes alongside. I actually bike with both kids on the bike. I prefer running, but will take what I can get.

Off for a run soon, although haven't had much food yet today. Trying to work out logistics of going for run/going shopping/going for lunch/collapsing from exhaustion/eating something.

Charlee · 15/08/2006 13:47

Hi!

Im doing ok today had a chicken sandwich with lots of salad in for lunch followed by a pear and home grown green beans and peas with the lamb for dinner.

I have also cleaned some of the house and DS is napping peacfully after taking his medicine with no problem.

I can almost see myself cracking out my pinny and rolling pin and making fruit pie like the housemaids of old

Overrun · 15/08/2006 14:11

doing okay too, add salad with lunch and a banana and some cherries so okay.
Managed my ten minutes but my three old objected to me prancing round the living room today, so did most of it with him hanging off my legs. I think that would make the exercise even more effective wouldn't it

fullmoonfiend · 15/08/2006 16:39

have had 3 glasses of water, one fruit juice. Forgot brekkie again, but have eaten 2 nectarine, salad sarnie, big bowl of pupkin seeds/sunflower/pine nuts. Am planning on chicken curry with chickpeas, tomatoes and spinach for tea.
Exercise wise, have been at work, but went bowling yesterday (and my, how my gluteus maximus aches today!) and today have just had mad halfhour with the half-moons dancing like idiots to the Levellers, followed by Rossinis William Tell Overture.

Overrun · 15/08/2006 16:57

fullmoonfiend, like your taste in music, the levellers now the takes me back. Maybe I will try and dance to that tomorrow. "theres only one way of life and thats your own your own, thats your own!"

fullmoonfiend · 15/08/2006 16:59

Hurrah! You can join my (very small, select ) clique then!
Am off to their festival with the family on Thursday, so the 10/10 thing will go to pot (!) as I will mostly be on a liquid diet (Hmm, beer is a veg too right?)

Panboy · 15/08/2006 17:03

God, spare me only this!! The Levellers....I WAS doing ok...but now..it's back to the pan for this boy......

fullmoonfiend · 15/08/2006 17:08

I have a very varied taste Panboy. This is just the music which reminds me of when I was young, passionate and gorgeous!

Overrun · 15/08/2006 17:16

didn't know they did a festival, see I am not that up to date with them, they also remind me of a younger more bohemiam version of me!
did see the levellers live the other month though

fullmoonfiend · 15/08/2006 17:18

They still rock! (saw them in April)
The festival is vcalled Beautiful Days and has everything from folk to old-school punk! Very chilled and child-friendly too.

Panboy · 15/08/2006 17:28

Varied? You'd need it....! Only kidding - each to their own...

Have been banging on for months about a Canadian reggae band called 'Bedouin Soundclash' - got some converts - no-one has ever heard of them, and then lo and behold! this morning one of their tunes is on the TV as a soundtrack to an advert for T-mobile phones!! You heard it here first! ..that is unless you have seen the advert, then, well, you didn't....
btw, up to 5 for the day, and can see why you need lots of fibre to see the Levellers...

NotQuiteCockney · 15/08/2006 17:39

I had salad at lunch. Um, er, that's it. But will have some fruit - you can buy cored sliced fresh pineapple in the local grocery store here!

And I got some nice crunchy-feeling nectarines.

And I did about 20 minutes of slowish running. Too sluggish today.

fullmoonfiend · 15/08/2006 17:55

mmmm pineapple - that sounds lovely! I was in M and S buying a sarnie and couldn't believe how much they charge for about a tablespoon of prepared fresh pineapple. But on the other hand, although I adore it, I cannot be bothered to peel and core one for myself....
