For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Wow, fried kale sounds like it will work, with onions - was going to steam it and grate cheese over it...also remembering the idea of grating sprouts and using them in a stir-fry. Not done that yet ( not stirred since then) but will do the kale thing this PM - thanks - can't think of anything to reciprocate with - apart from caramelised carrot going with ANYTHING!!

Charleesunnysunsun · 18/08/2006 18:11

Hello all!

Due to our earlier convo i have changed my name, i was getting bored of being just 'Charlee' anyway so i thought i would add to it.

I just had some carrotts and some tomatoe's fromthe garden with my mustard mash and pork and leek sausages.

Shall I start a support thread for people whose MILs are visiting?

Well I had a great day and fixed all my problems at work, I think. I am still tired but it has been quite a long week. I have my first session at the gym tomorrow and have thought of another reason why I want to go - so I can eat more food and still fit into my clothes.

I have eaten melon, apple x 2, peach, banana, satsuma, salad, so far today. You have to eat quite a lot of raw veg to equal one portion, don't you? I think I will have some raisins and some more fruit in a minute.

Pan we sometimes have shredded sprouts in a stir fry, or I also have a raw sprout salad recipe It is quite a fierce taste and had a scary effect on my family's digestive system, but just ask if you think you are man enough for it...

I have just sat down and planned each day they are going to be here, and how to most effectively minimise the amount of minutes I will have to spend in their company

A good plan Franny i'll adapt it for teh beginning of Sept, ok fruit/veg not doing too babdly today, exercise is a pain to fit in but it nust be done so will do yoga and or dancing tonight - if teh kids go to bed early

Overrun · 18/08/2006 19:56

Have been snacking on fruit all day, and had fresh sweetcorn (love it) for dinner, with grilled tomatos and steamed courgette. Strawberries and bananas mixed up with greek yog for desert, plus big glass of grape juice, whew think I made it.
I feel a bit out of the loop, on the MIL issue, as I actually really like her, but they are getting too old to travel to see us, or to have us all to stay. We have rented a house in same village in Oct.
It's my Mother that drives me mad, and I can't escape her

Good luck Aviatrix, is it a case of holding your tongue for 4 days

Overrun · 18/08/2006 21:01

How are you tonight Franny, or should I call you snake? Hows that for a thread crash? I am intrigued by the snake bit, no one else was a snake.
Panboy, how was your kale, I do tend to start mine off in boiling water then saute with onion, don't know if thats what you did?
I'm off to Reading for the weekend to visit friends so will have to take up a big hoard of fruit with me to make sure that i don't slack

FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2006 21:37

Yes I am also worried about the snake thing

I fear I may have imagined it all in a broccoli induced hallucination

Have a good weekend Overrun, will you be online in Reading?

Come on! Come on! Get up! I've been up for hours eating cabbage and jogging on the spot

So, more like a "snake-in-the-grass", rather than a "snake-in-the-bed" eh Frances???

Will be out all day today munching F.& V. no doubt at an agricultural show in Derbyshire..(now, how does one explain such a thing to London-centric types? Hmmm)

FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2006 13:09

Right I don't think any bugger except me is around this weekend from the looks of it, but if anyone drops in can you please come and praise me lots.

I have been at the gym with my bloody delicious personal trainer and he says as I have very little body fat I will be able to notice the difference in 6 weeks time and will look muscly and toned, and he would very much like to take me out

Ok I made the last bit up. Probably. I am going again tomorrow so he will probably say it then, I should think.

I am still around, sortof.

Let's see, Thursday wasn't great, I had bad salads, and then a burger. No real fruit. No running, lots of walking.

Yesterday was good, though, I had a SE Asian mango salad thing for lunch, and then a lovely salad with tofu on top for dinner. And I went running, and did lots of walking, and went drinking with people I haven't seen in 20 years. Which was fun.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/08/2006 13:51

Oh, please do fry kale, it's the only way I've found to make it palatable, and I still end up feeling more than a bit bovine when I eat it.

Not sure what we're up to today. Well, we're off to my favourite park in the world. Maybe dinner with the same friends we ate with last night. I don't know whether I'll run. Probably. My lower back is hosed from all the walking and standing yesterday (clothes shopping, gah).

FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2006 16:37

Hello? Praise? Hello??

FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2006 18:53

What?

OP posts:
Panboy · 19/08/2006 18:58

Now, 'Agricultural Show'...you'd think that this would include fruit and veg., rather than just slabs of murdered, dead, innocent animals, yes? Not an unreasonable assumption, no? Well. WRONG!!

not even a limp lettuce in sight!! Just slavering country types in 4-wheel drives and ridiculous, self-conscious garb...Overrun - it was hell!! Back to my fruit bowl and roasted veg for dinner..

and Frances the Female Adonis!! You are inspirationally fabulous, and no doubt even after only 24 hours that v. cute personal trainer will be wanting to use you as a promotional model on his mail-shots!! And , NO DOUBT, seeking your hand on a (very healthy) dinner date!!

FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2006 18:58

Oh and I am abandoning you tonight my flock, and going out to a Withnail and I film, club and sleepover night. Oh the irony.

"Right, here's the plan. First, we go in there and get wrecked, then we eat a pork pie, then we drop a couple of Surmontil-50's each, means we'll miss out on Monday and come up smiling Tuesday morning."

(I am only doing the film and club bit, not the sleepover bit, so I will see you all later on)

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2006 19:00

Dead animals? Oh no!

I forgot to point out that clubbing must definitely be exercise, especially when you are 34. Dp says I am having a mid life crisis
