Oh nunulcat what a worrying time for you, hope your little DD is feeling much better.

DD had meningcoccal septicaemia when she was 3, she was very poorly and we were in Spain which just added tot he worry. It was thought at first that she had sunstroke but luckily the consultants in the spanish hospital noticed the two little purple dots on her ankle and detected it was meningitis and were able to get her straight onto antibiotics - an hour later and she was covered from head to foot in the horrible rash, it just spread that quickly. It was touch and go for 24 hours and the language barrier was a real problem but thankfully she was okay.

We were told that had we been in the UK she might not be here today as the meningitis took hold so quickly and luckily because its very rare in Spain they did not dismiss it and recognised it as being meningitis very quickly. I thank god for that.

She's now 6 and has hardly been ill ever since.

Oh so sorry nulnulcat - hope she gets better and stays better very, very soon.

My god, i am so pleased that your daughter is on the mend!!! I feel for you and i know what you are goign through {smile] ((((((((HUGS))))))))

Well i lost my best friend in 2003, she was 21 and died of Meningitus B. I was there, when she died. It was very painful and still is!!

One morning, she was complaining about bad headaches, no rashes or anything. Then later on that morning, she was screaming and crying. Because her headaches was so bad, we rush to A&E!! 3 hours later, she died!! She had cat scan and meningitus B spread to the brain etc. Somethink like that.

I am always checking my 16 months old son for signs of mengingits.. i can't help it!!

God bless you and your daughter.

fullmoonfiend · 06/07/2006 20:13

nulnulcat · 10/07/2006 20:35

thank you everyone for all the messages they were lovely and im so sorry for all you other mums that have been through it wouldnt want to wish these last few weeks on my worst enemy! today was horrible more tests more injections i dont think i ever want to hear my poor baby screaming that its hurting and make it stop mummy ever again, i just felt so helpless

her real dad was a complete w**r had to ring him to update him, told him he couldnt begin to know how horrible its all been he said "i can imagine" which he cant as he is not involved in his daughters life and has only seen her half a dozen times told him all this and his answer was im still her dad!!! he not seen her since last may!!!!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 10/07/2006 20:39

Rant away, nul! SO glad your baby is home now!!

Her dad sounds like he doesn't deserve a sweetie like her - glad your partner showed what a real man is about.

Onwards and upwards.

Get some sleep!!

nulnulcat · 02/09/2006 21:46

its been a hectic few weeks since the meningitus thing, poor dd has really been through it, the blood thing was caused by allergies and now she is on a gluten free diet things have improved.

she has always been livley prone to tantrums etc paperweights through doors etc behaviour has got worse since coming out of hospital first of all put it down to not feeling well but nursery were also concerned and to cut a long story short she has been diagnosed with adhd, not on ritalin at the moment as trying to deal with it in other ways than drugging my child up, but the mild sedative at bedtime it a god send for the 1st time in nearly 3 years we are getting near enough an unbroken nights sleep!!

unfortunatly the stress of the last few months and all her health problems have led to the break up of my relationship with dp,

cant wait for this year to end!
