aw, nul! i hope she gets better soon. poor lass. poor mum. SO frightening, especially as she wasn't even feeling ill.

lanismum · 26/06/2006 20:08

oh the poor little thing, is it your dd who also has the excessive drinking problem too? (sorry if im thinking of the wrong person) i really hope she starts to pick up soon, thinking of you x

nulnulcat · 26/06/2006 20:11

word of advice ignore the snotty bitchy drs receptionists!! stupid cow when i rang up and clearly explained rash etc told me i could take dd to emergency surgery 3 hours later!!! ffs!! i drove straight round there and argued with her face to face she kept saying come back after 1pm it was only 945!!! 2 care assistants in there told her that dd needed to be seen straight away and silly cow still wouldnt listen!! i went into waiting room and as soon as patient came out of drs i stormed in and demanded he see her.

sorry was that a bit of a rant!! hope the woman aint reading this actually i dont care, you would think in her job she would know more about meningitus and you cant wait f***g 3+ hours to see a dr!

lanismum yes it is my little one, she has been in and out of hospital over the last 3 months having loads of horrible tests she has something called diabetes insipidus and we were just getting used to dealing with it and then this happens, as i said i think that ward is becoming our second home!

Wow nulnulcat, I am seriously impressed - and yet so disheartened. Many, many people in your situation would have capitulated and I really hate to think what would have happened if you had...

I hope that the receptionist either loses her job or undergoes some serious retraining, but sadly I doubt that either will happen.

expatinscotland · 26/06/2006 20:15

i'm beginning to sound like a broken record here, but i'd complain in writing about her - not just to the practice manager, but to the PCT manager as well. and the press.

we're talking about a child's LIFE here, ffs.

sugarfree · 26/06/2006 20:18

Nulnulcat,I was in your shoes just over two years ago, when Ds3 was 6 months old.
He'd been off colour at the start of the week, then on the Thursday night he wouldn't settle and had a temp,I found the spots on Friday mid-morning when I changed his nappy.
I just 'knew' without doing the glass test.I kept telling myself all the way to a&e that it couldn't be that because he wasn't poorly enough. We were transferred to the Childrens Dept and started on the IV antibiotics.By then his legs and hands were starting to go cold and purple.
I can honestly say I didn't know the meaning of the word terror until then.
It took until Suday afternoon for him to turn the corner although he was off the danger list by Saturday evening.
On Monday his Doctor admitted to me that he had cared for2 other cases and so far had a 100%failure rate.He didn't think Ds would make it on the Friday night.

My only advice is just take it one minute at a time, drink, eat, sleep when you can.Just keep breathing, you have done so well to get through these last few days, you can do it a bit longer.
It sounds like the upset tummy is just the final straw for you,eh?

Remember you can phone the hospital whenever you like and they will phone the instant they need you and her Daddy is with her.
Try and get a shower and a meal and just have a couple of hours 'off-duty' even if you don't manage to get some sleep you will feel better for it,'k?

Thinking of you and your little one.

((((((((Hugs))))))))

Earlybird · 26/06/2006 20:18

Oh how awful. Hope things improve soon. And well done for being so insistent that they see your dd immediately.

nulnulcat · 26/06/2006 20:19

miao i am normally the sort of person that wouldnt do that but its weird when its your child and you know they are ill its like you get possessed by some one else! and i have had loads of experience of drs telling me there has been nothing wrong with her and there has been,

wasnt going to put up with it this time, she nearly died from a virus when she was 8 months cos the gp thought she was sleepy due to teething and i wasnt going to take any crap again!

it must be instinct that as a mother you know when your child is ill

nulnulcat · 26/06/2006 20:23

sugarfree thats exactly what happened, she has been niggly for a few days and off her food which is not normal! had a really bad night on thurs night could not get her to settle and she ended up sleeping in with me fri morning she was chasing the cats round the house and getting into mischief wouldnt have thought she could have been so ill by lunchtime

expatinscotland · 26/06/2006 20:56

nulnulcat - sorry your poor dd and you are having to go through so much. The way you reacted and got your dd seen is an inspiration. Wishing her a quick recovery - thinking of you all. Do have a break - you need your strength.

Marina · 26/06/2006 21:00

What an awful scare for you nulnulcat and thank goodness she is progressing well - thanks to your determination to get her seen. Wishing her a complete recovery and you a restful night.

SSSandy · 26/06/2006 21:00

That's awful. Really hope your little one is back home soon and completely recovered. As to the receptionist , I've made bad experiences too but my dc was never this seriously ill. I would complain in writing too.

Aero · 26/06/2006 21:03

Poor dd and poor you. Thinking of you all and wishing your dd a speedy recovery. Thank goodness for your fast action to get her seen so quickly.

swedishmum · 26/06/2006 21:44

Lucky her to have a warrior princess for a mum! Had similar years ago with dd2 - they can be vile at doctors can't they? Hope she's doing well. I know you won't sleep while she's ill, but do try to relax a bit.

moondog · 26/06/2006 21:47

Nul huge hugs to you and your DD. Hope she is better soon.
I know exactly how you feel about being home my DD is 6mths and has been in hospital a couple of times with breathing problems and I always feel 100 times worse being home despite the fact I am shattered in the hospital.
