im so sorry shes still so ill, im glad your partner is being so helpful and giving you the breaks you need, hoping she starts to pick up soon, and that the scans show no further problems xx

nulnulcat · 01/07/2006 19:35

and for those people that asked in this case the rash wasnt really noticeable i just saw a couple of purple spots the size of pinpricks just below her chest for those of you that know cpr its just where you would do compressions she is very pale normally which is why i saw them within an hour when we finally saw dr she had a line of them under one shoulder and a cluster on her tummy by the time we had been in hospital they were spreading to her back, as i said they were tiny pinpricks at first but spread alarmingly fast and within a few hours they had grwon more blotchy

nulnulcat, thank you so much for the update, we are all thinking of you and your brave dd. And thanks for the information about the rash too, that's so useful.

Keep strong

i admit to feeding my daughter crap on occasion - sausage rolls and fruit shoots in this house but even i am horrified!!

no offence to anyone but i did have to smile and think of you lot when i got given the menu!! hey stressed out mums need our sense of humour xx

foxinsocks · 05/07/2006 20:03

yay!

singersgirl · 05/07/2006 20:04

Glad to hear that! Hope she is home soon!

nulnulcat · 05/07/2006 20:09

she is now well enough to be suffering severe case of boredom being stuck in a little room! we have taken some of her toys in and got her a portable dvd and i have to say i could now go on mastermind with cinderella and sleeping beauty as my specialist subject! they said they might have to continue the antibiotics but they can leave the canula in her hand and i can just take her in once a day for a couple of hours for them to put her on the drip. i think the main worry is she is going to catch another infection and she would be better off at home where there arent people coming and going with lots of nasty germs!

hulababy · 05/07/2006 20:10

So sorry you are going through all this. But so glad to hear your DD is improving and getting better.

fullmoonfiend · 05/07/2006 20:26

nulnulcat - really really feeling for you - only just seen this thread.
My ds had meningitis 4 yrs ago (he is fine BTW) and it was utter utter hell at the time. The nice thing is he has no memory of any of the bad stuff - all he can remember is the Thomas the tank engine food trolley and yes, the endless diet of chips - he thought it was paradise that and the room full of toys which he had all to himself, as he wasn't allowed to be around other kids .
Seriously, huge healing hugs to your dd and huge warm supportive hugs to you.
Have you all had that vile red medicine which turns your wee luminously orange??
May I also heartily recomend the Meningitis research Foundation's helpline for support - now and at any time afterwards? I was ok while all the drama was unfolding and during the hospital time - it was several weeks later when me and dh went into something like Post-traumatic stress syndrome and that's when I needed them to talk to, for reassurance and empathy.

Sorry for rambling, best wishes x

Bigandburlybloke · 05/07/2006 20:28

FMF,this is one clique I wish we'd never have to be in eh?

Bigandburlybloke · 05/07/2006 20:28

sorry,tis me...sugarfree!

fullmoonfiend · 05/07/2006 20:39

you too eh? Yeah, there are nicer things to have in common!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 05/07/2006 20:42

So sorry to hear what your family is going through, Nulnulcat. I hope there's a full and speedy recovery.

nulnulcat · 05/07/2006 21:36

thank you for all the lovely messages and for the advice fullmoonfield, can honestly say im not even thinking straight at the moment everything is just going past in a huge big blur i think!! have been given so much literature to read from meningitus people and the hospital and yes i had to have the yucky medicine!

found out today that someone else in her nursery has meningocal meningitus which i think is a lot worse so i suppose in a horrible way im grateful she only had the viral one it was all the added infections that were causing all the problems! the other child is going to be ok by the way readign that back im worried it sounds like im happy my kid isnt as sick as theres! and that sounds really horrible but its not what i mean at all!

i think i need to go and get some sleep

OP posts:
nulnulcat · 05/07/2006 21:42

quick question for anyone, should i be washing all her soft toys particularly the pink mouse that goes everywhere with her im a bit obsessive about cleanliness and am worrying that the bug is lurking somewhere in my house!

OP posts:
sugarfree · 05/07/2006 21:46

Good to hear from you, things are looking up.
I didn't wash everything in the house after ds3 was ill.
I would wash the mouse if he's been in hospital though, and any other toys that have been in there. Not because of her germs but Other Children's Germs.

lanismum · 06/07/2006 00:13

excellent! i keep checking this thread to see hows shes getting on, so so pleased its a all worked out well

Miaou · 06/07/2006 06:50

nulnulcat, boredom is such a good sign, wonderful to hear she is getting better

I had to lol re your comments about mastermind and cinderella - I could still repeat that damn film word for word after watching it for 3 days solid whilst dd2 was in isolation, and that was 5 years ago!

HarryRamsbottomthwaite · 06/07/2006 08:51

nulnulcat - mine had meninigicoccal menigitis - as I said he recovered fully. Glad to hear the other child is recovering too. Viral is still nasty and she may be under the weather for a while after (headaches etc) it's 'normal'. Agree with Sugarfree about washing toys because of other people's germs. The bug comes from other people, not from round the house so don't panic. But her immune system will have taken a bit of a battering so best be safe. So glad to hear she's on the mend, it really is a nightmare when they're so poorly, isn't it. And pneumonia's no picnic either. Poor you and poor dd. Big love to you x
