With chemo, it's seemingly often true that if you've been v sick in pregnancy or travelling in the past, you may need more anti nausea stuff.

malteserzz · 29/05/2013 22:38

That's good then amber as I never had morning sickness and don't get travel sick !

amberlight · 29/05/2013 22:43

I took ginger supplement for three days before chemo. Good science on it reducing nausea. During chemo they put in anti nausea potion just before it. And they sent me away with a cartload of anti nausea tablets. Sipping ginger beer helped. So did sipping ice water during chemo to help stop mouth ulcers.

trice · 29/05/2013 22:51

I had jelly and cream for my pudding it was Lovely.

I am finding that I need all my food to be soup or mash at the moment as my mouth is sore and I have trouble swallowing.

trice · 29/05/2013 22:54

The macmillan website recommended a small glass of sherry before meals. I am not taking up sherry - surely they mean cocktails?

malteserzz · 29/05/2013 23:01

Remind me of all these things when my time comes wont you please
I had sherry trifle the other night it was very nice, do they really recommend a sherry ?
Waiting for sleeping pill to take me away.

trice · 30/05/2013 04:34

Hope you are asleep Malt. Yes they do really recommend sherry, it helps you eat more apparently. And most people with cancer are elderly thank goodness. I would love to be elderly, Dh has a great gran and Grandpa who are in their 90s. They are in pretty good shape. I hope my dcs have inherited their genes.

BetsyBoop · 30/05/2013 04:58

I hope everyone else is sleeping ::)

I managed to sleep from 11-4, much better than last night. Currently listening to DH snoring!

EarthMotherImNot · 30/05/2013 05:03

Harrumph! Each of my three pregnancies were notable for the morning, afternoon and evening sickness I enduredHmm

When, with DD1 it came on Dh used to dash off for a pristine white bucket with a lid. He'stroke my hair and all.

DS1 "must dash love, buckets on stairs for you.
DD2 "How much can one body hold EMIN. And now you tell me this chemo lark chorolates to it. Harrummph I tell you

Gigondas · 30/05/2013 06:38

Morning all-Brew?

Shouldn't moan about Disney as kids love it -just I think you can have too much small world (tho next time will send malt instead of me ).

On chemo sickness, I second ambers tips (I became quite an expert on different types of ginger beer) but also don't suffer nausea and take meds regularly as effect builds up and works better.

Tipping it down here and everyone except mini gig quire tired today.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/05/2013 08:05

I like sherry ! (old gimmer alert) I don't get travel sick neither did I have morning sickness and only a bit of nausea so far on chemo, thankfully.
Up and about and it's bloody cool and grey and damp...grrr.

jchocchip · 30/05/2013 08:06

Found you! Grin at small world playing on repeat! Remember going with dcs 10ish years ago - not my choice...
Mum rang at 6am I was asleep. Left message on care agency answerphone but not sure that will help. Her morning call is sometimes very late so tried to keep her talking...
Day off today. Need to make a cake. Or get dd2 to do it Grin

topsyturner · 30/05/2013 08:48

malteserzz · 30/05/2013 08:49

Truce I'd also love to be elderly and feel quite cheated as dhs parents and mine are enjoying lovely retirements, looking after grandchildren nice holidays. I'll just be a photo on the wall by then which makes me weep
Gigs your Disney photos are lovely :)

Need to take the car back to the garage today as it failed its mot, not much else planned Hope everyone has a good day x

malteserzz · 30/05/2013 08:50

Trice not truce !
Topsy enjoy your lunch and lucky you having good weather make the most of it :)

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 30/05/2013 08:54

Kurri thanks for the tip, I will pop into Boots later and get some of the tears if they have them :)

It's my dad's birthday so I'm up early, we've just done his presents and now breakfast time. We are venturing out for coffee this morning as well, quite exciting! There will be cake for the trolley later.

malt good luck with the car

topsy and HND enjoy lunch out

Have a good morning everyone!

notJenkins · 30/05/2013 09:23

Found you !

betsy my dc are 7 and 10 and I just told them I needed an operation and then treatment ( not chemo but radioactive iodine) and did not mention the cancer word. My 2 just said 'ok what's for dinner ' and weren't bothered at all.

gigs glad you have recovered from your Disney experience. My dh built eurodisney and that pink concrete was the start of seriuos skin allergies for him ! copt getting jiggly at Disney whatever next. The only thing I got at Disney was very bad tempered indeed.

We had a lovely day in the forest yesterday and giant hooligan puppy was so well behaved he may need to be re named. He had a nose to nose sniff with a pony then proceeded to ignore them all.

We are off to that there London tomorrow so quiet day here today.

KurriKurri · 30/05/2013 09:41

Happy birthday Ruby'sDad! Coffee out and cake sounds perfect.
You can ask your oncy team for the drops if they don't have them in Boots - but you can get various types over the counter (mine are called Hypromellose, but there are several types, - had some from the oncy when I was having chemo with a different name, and now I have them because of thyroid eye probs)

EMIN - I had awful morning (misnomer - 'all day') sickness when pregnant, but not to bad on chemo - big waves of nausea yes - and pills to control it, but not the extreme sickness that some people get on chemo. So not a complete correlation, you may be OK Smile I second ginger or peppermint or lemon herbal teas, or sipping fizzy drink like lucozade or lemonade.

What is the thing about sherry MAS - is it supposed to be good for you? - I could start having a small sherry before my meal, I quite like it.

jane - hope your mum is OK, enjoy your cake making

topsy - stop boasting, we have horrid weather here again, the nice weather of the bank holiday has obviously all headed west! Al fresco lunch with HND sounds good.

I see on the news they have stopped spraying the Mary Rose in Portsmouth, so you can see it much more clearly. I loved seeing that - very atmospheric, and so huge! -
IMO more interesting than the Victory. -(also huge but with enforced commentary from a guide and you can't turn round and go back if you don't like something - such as a horrible sort of glass path thing you can see right down to the bottom of the ship from, and have to walk across. Anyone who hated that sort of thing and was scared of heights might make a fool of themselves by trying to get down on their knees and crawl across and keep shouting 'this is awful. absolutely awful' and embarrass their daughter.) Just warning you in case you know anyone like that - so you can tell them Grin

KurriKurri · 30/05/2013 09:44

spent so long waffling about ships I x-posted NJ, - NF is lovely - glad hooligan puppy was good and had a chat with a pony Smile
Be careful in that there London 'hold onto your bag very tightly' as my Mother always says at any mention of a city Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/05/2013 10:20

Happy birthday to ruby's dad !
I think sherry when v dry is an appetiser,I just like it as it's quite strong ! MIL serves sweet sherry which I also like. Dh uses it (dry sherry) in his oriental cooking.
Am not sure I envy old people much -unless they are super healthy - sitting in the waiting room waiting for blood test there were an awful lot of old folk(and not so old) in a pretty awful state of decrepitude. My granny was relatively healthy and lived to 93 but was quite keen to die as she'd done everything and was bored.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/05/2013 10:21

gracie sorry- forgot to say- T has about 6 exams left- last one on 20th...

malteserzz · 30/05/2013 10:47

I don't need to increase my appetite at the moment ! Had about a week where I just couldn't eat due to the shock but it's back now
Have dropped my car off for its work and had a nice walk back with ds, will do it in reverse later when it's finished. Raining again though boo

EarthMotherImNot · 30/05/2013 11:43

I seem to have developed this weird thing where I cannot sleep, which leads to extreme tiredness the following day and I end up dropping off to sleep without warning.

A couple of times I've been holding a glass of juice and ended up awash with sticky juice, ice cubes etc.

Everyone rushes round helping to clean me up but it's scary. Obviously I try not to get into the same scenario but today I overheard Dh talking to one of my aunts who'd rang to see how I was. He said "I don't want worry you but this has happened a few times now" I can't hear my aunts side of the conversation but she is elderly and I know it will be worrying her now and it's obvious he is more worried than he's letting on.

It is just the lack of sleep and of course lots of pain killers isn't it, please???

malteserzz · 30/05/2013 11:52

Earth I would imagine like you say it's lack of sleep and the pain killers. Could you ask for something to help you sleep at night so you're not so tired ? I'm on zoplicone which are brilliant, take one half an hour before I want to sleep and I normally sleep all night

EarthMotherImNot · 30/05/2013 11:56

I can ask my G.P. I guess malt, they can only say say no. I did tell my Macmillan nurse who suggested I double up on one of my tablets and I tried this but without success. I'll mention your drug by name. ty x
