topsyturner · 09/05/2013 00:39

Cop Shock
Reminds me of giving birth to DS as the first Gulf Invasion took place .
Midwives kept saying "you'll have to call it Sadaam if its a boy" ...

Copthallresident · 09/05/2013 00:49

topsy Grin but does tend to put our own dramas in perspective.......

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 01:08

Typing one handed cos silly finger clip thing on. I have a puzzle book but can't write either. There's one female bed left in hospital and it is going to the lady next to me so I think I'll be here all night. I've sent my parents home as they're both exhausted and mum has work tomorrow. Bit lonely!

Never really got into Mad Men as I missed some and couldn't catch up.

My specialist nurse is a bit useless too but thought I'd talk things through with my CLIC social worker as she's lovely :)

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 01:08

It sure does !
The world keeps turning Cop Smile

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 01:10

So you are stuck on a trolley all night Ash ?
That's not good .
Sky has most (if not all) of the old Mad Men on catch up if that's any use to you ?

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 01:32

Yes indeed. Quite a comfy trolley though :) it's actually nicer than the ward as more people about.

I always said I'd never be one of those girls who cries to get their own way but it turns out all it takes for me to abandon my principles is the threat of being made to use a commode Blush I cried and the nurse let me use the normal loo. Surely that's nicer for them too Confused

Thanks topsy but my dad is very anti Sky/Rupert Murdoch so we aren't allowed it! :( but I might get the box set or something, after I've finished all 144 hours of West Wing Grin

I hope you are all fast asleep by now :)

I've got a book to read - Espresso Tales by Alexander McCall Smith. So far I'm finding it a bit try-hard.

trice · 09/05/2013 02:01

Sorry to hear you are in a&e ash, I hope you get sorted out quickly and it isn't too uncomfortable.

I am wide awake with the steroids. It is very tedious.

Good luck with ct scan for later Topsy.

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 03:07

I hope you've managed to get to sleep trice

I've got a bed now and they've just wheeled me into a private corner of A&E so I can sleep. There's an elderly lady opposite me and I thought she was dead when they first brought me in Blush but now she's talking to herself and singing. It's quite creepy as they've pulled the curtains so I can't see anything!

Lots of good luck for topsy and ned xx

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 05:18

Brew? Ash - I think I have the first two series if mad men on box set (if dss hasn't stolen) and you are welcome. It is avoid watch (am up to series 4 now Copt).

Hospital at night always entertaining - the only time I took big gig to a and e was in South Africa when we went to watch the lions 4 years ago. She turned blue and wouldn't stop vomiting one night so we had to get a taxi thru Pretoria to hospital ( was too worried to think of safety). Hospital and taxi driver were lovely ( bug seen in minutes nd sorted) but we were only ones in there without drinking/fighting injuries Grin.

Copt-I would love Chinese book recommendations.

Trice- hope you got some sleep.

Ned and topsy candles lit.

Didn't sleep well as in habit of not sleeping now. We need our nightclub. Also can people let me know if they don't have Mn message access so can plan another way to sort meet up.

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 06:10

Good morning.

Eek at South Africa taxi/A&E, must have been terrifying. My mad uncle lived in Pretoria for a while. He's been kidnapped by guerrillas but not in SA, I think that was in Sudan.

I've had a couple of hours on off sleep. Lady opposite me has kept up a conversation with herself all night. It was funny/endearing at first but soon became quite unsettling, I know that's horrible of me, poor lady :( I feel like I may have been forgotten. No sign of the antibiotics I had to stay in overnight for and I'm in what I think is basically an adapted store cupboard! I wish the coalition fuckers would stop destroying the NHS Angry the staff have been amazing they just have NO beds on wards.

I'm going to email then phone my bowel nurse and see if she can come to see me when she gets in. Counting down the hours!! :)

Am off in search of food/drink so have a good breakfast everyone :)

gigs do you mean the messages where it says inbox at the top? I have that

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 06:17

Yes those messages ash- think you can opt not to have them hence why I was asking.

Can see that old lady was disruptive - hope you get anti bs and bed soon. Think email to nurse is good plan. My specialist nurse is great as right mix if support and practical tips .

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 06:55

All drama here. Lady started choking on her own vomit and no panic buttons here so I had to run out shouting in my socks into the middle of A&E. Poor thing :( she is very confused and now the agency nurse in charge of our area is about to get told off for abandoning us all and letting her choke Angry

malteserzz · 09/05/2013 07:03

Ash sorry to hear you're in hospital and in a cupboard hope you get a proper bed or better still get out soon

I found 2 sleeping tablets in my wash bag and fell on them like a drug addict Smile so got some sleep

I've found that one of dd s friends mums also has breast cancer she's a few weeks ahead of me. Weve sent messages and think it would be good to meet up.

Good luck with all of the appointments today everyone and think of me at 10 o clock legs akimbo having my coil out, or maybe you'd rather not !
Xx

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 07:03

Bloody hell that's not good. Not surprised about agency nurse- one of them got read riot act when I was in for changing my drugs without his say so.

jchocchip · 09/05/2013 07:23

:( ash sounds like an eventful night. Popping on to wish topsy and ned and gig all the best for today. Hope you get sorted soon ash, or at least moved from the cupboard. Eating breakfast in bed then off to work...

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 07:42

Morning All

That sounds like an eventful night Ash !
Hope they get you sorted and moved/home soon .

I'm in my bedroom , debating what to wear today .
It's peeing down and blowing a gale out there .
But I need clothes that are easy to get on and off for CT .

Do you think I can go in my pjs ???

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 07:54

Yes - from my extensive Aibu reading , I think it's only supermarkets where you can't wear pjs.

Copthallresident · 09/05/2013 08:12

ash it sounds a complete nightmare, like Daily hate mail story, "Cancer patient left in cupboard with old lady has to nurse her" I hope your specialist nurse rides to your rescue soon and you get anti bs . How is your temperature, no better obviously for no sleep trauma and neglect.

Don't blame your Dad re Murdoch DH has to have Sky for Rugby and mostly all 546 channels are complete rubbish but have started to have a couple of good programmes in amongst, a Ruth jones comedy drama called Stella which Always leaves you with a smile , i recommend if it is out on dvd and Mad Men which I love, it is like a good book in that you can take it as a pleasure but it also gives your brain a work out. I am also addicted to the Guardian blog , every nano second is analysed to within an inch of it's life but it does bring out every last nuance. They bought out a best of book that you could look at after every episode. Dd has taken my box set off to uni Angry keep meaning to mount raid to liberate them, also little Copts clothes she has kidnapped....

gigs A good start would be Julia Lovells book on the opium wars. It is out in paperback and actually got into bestseller charts which is good because she is really nice. She is at Birkbeck. She is very readable and fully brings out the comedy potential but also shows how the current leaders use propaganda , and history, to prop up their mandate. And starts with an anecdote where Cameron handfistedly tries to do same, at least they are good at it......She is one of the writers on China who is close to being objective, neither in awe nor seeing rulers as 100 % bad. Jonathan Fenby is also good, his most recent on modern China, Tigers head, snake tail I think? Is very readable . He was editor of South China Morning Post and writes well in Guardian along with Isobel Hilton and Tania Branigan, all rest of reporting in UK press makes your blood boil it is so wrong.

malt exactly same thing happened to me. In fact in end two of DDs friends mums formed nucleus of an informal support group, it was an amazing source of support . Hope it works out that way for you

Waves to everyone, and thinking especially of ned and topsy.

Copthallresident · 09/05/2013 08:20

topsy DD says all poshest students turn up to lectures in pjs, which must mean Central London public transport tooGrin Depends if you mind being thought dead posh Grin

malteserzz · 09/05/2013 08:51

Just to warn everyone that Bernie Nolan is all over the news at the moment as she's got a book out about losing her battle with breast cancer. Just in case you are like me and cant really cope with it

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 09:07

Daily fail per chance?

Bernie hasn't lost any battle - she has just got a particularly badly behaved set of cells as amber would say. It's tragic and scary for those with similar issues but doesn't mean will happen to us.

Stay away from papers, news and try to stick to DVD or pre recorded stuff so can skim ads (Macmillan ones very prevalent or were).

Back to Brew and trying to work.

malteserzz · 09/05/2013 09:18

No Lorraine !
Sorry that was a crappy turn of phrase
Have googled ( I know I know !) and she has 2 sisters who also have BC and are doing very well

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 10:11

Yoo hoo , scan done .
On way home now , trying to persuade DH to stop at tesco so I can buy more junk food salad and fruit Grin

Haven't got results apt yet , but its normally 2 weeks after .

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 10:17

That's good all done. Fruit? Don't you mean choclit and wine.

I am bloody knackered but daren't rest as that seems to make sleep at night worse. More Brew I think.

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 10:32

WAKE UP GIGS !!!!

A kitkat chunky may have slipped into my shopping bag ...
