OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 08/05/2013 19:14

loads of good vibes for topsy and ned for tomorrow....
Have spent much of the day trying to get my head around dropbox in order to send my work to the man who is doing my website - I am rubbish at technical stuff...but have managed to write a short biog. for it.
And some drawings of elves and snowmen.
Hooray for Apprentice !!!

OP posts:
amberlight · 08/05/2013 19:33

Tipsy, Ned, good luck for tomorrow.

notJenkins · 08/05/2013 19:38

Good luck ned tomorrow and hope you get a definite answer about that op.

I seem to have an oncologist and surgeon doubling up on appointments so now don't have to have more tests this week as the onc did them last a couple of weeks ago. My onc rang and my meds are being increased so I will be zipping round with a super fast metabolism.

Just waiting for my pizza with extra anchovies to cook, fancy a slice anyone ?

topsyturner · 08/05/2013 20:05

Yack !
That's for the anchovies .
Can't stand em ...
finally found a food I won't eat

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/05/2013 20:12

I'll have the anchovies - yum !

OP posts:
Gigondas · 08/05/2013 20:13

As opposed to I think any food that goes with rose.

Mini gig shouting - she will be down with goon dog if this carries on. I will have a think on books Copt. Is it roman stuff in particular?

Ash glad you had a sleep but dr w is a pita.

Gp was helpful ( I went for non head turning one) - just to update him as find if don't all info doesn't get thru. Stitches in hip out on Friday.

Lots of luck for topsy and ned tomorrow.

smee · 08/05/2013 21:03

Nipping in to send clear vibes for scan tomorrow, Topsy. Anything goes with Rose. Go raid the fridge. Smile

Thinking of you too, Ned. Always nerve wracking to have an appt, but am sure you'll be fine. Smile

MAS, I've had to have drop box for work too. Must be odd to draw at this time of year.

I had mastectomy Malt, so can't say but a lot depends too on what comes next, so if you're having Rads and/ or chemo they might well start 3/4 weeks after op.

Spero, another here who hasn't found tamoxifen too bad. Give it a go and see. I was told it was my best line of defence against recurrence (with Rads) and it's not been too bad.

Waving to my cancer twin, Copt. Same name, same sort of tumour and I had the chemo-pause too. Spooky! Grin

Hope little Gigs isn't partying into the small hours tonight. Better go get something to eat. Enjoy Apprentice those who watch. Yet again I'm on hold until DH back. grrr.

Gigondas · 08/05/2013 21:11

The party has stopped for now .. But it is located in our room for next few nights as the kids' room us being decorated.

KurriKurri · 08/05/2013 21:23

Good vibes for Ned and topsy tomorrow - will be thinking of you both xx

Will make sure I don't do any apprentice spoiler Smee, -I'm recording it tonight because DD is at choir practice, - but we'll watch it when she gets back.

Asho - hope you are OK, sorry Dr W was useless again though. - He isn't much help in advising you which option to go for, -I wouldn't know what to suggest, but I do know that a lost everyone I know who has had chemo (including myself) has had to have the dosage fiddled around with because they got poorly so they were on reduced dosage for some of the time, - I don't know if that helps in any way - probably not, it's hard having to make these decisions - can your specialist nurse offer any insights?

Glad GP was helpful Gig, - hope mini Gigs has finished her shouting session Grin

Don't work to hard MAS - elves sound cute though Smile

DD has sorted my computer with few flicks and clicks and much eye rolling and muttering of 'Luddite' under her breath Grin

I was going out with my friend to visit a craft centre tomorrow, but she's had to cancel because she's having CCTV fitted to her house (man was supposed to come today but is now coming tomorrow) so I will twiddle my thumbs instead Grin

graciesmall09 · 08/05/2013 21:26

Good luck tomorrow topsy and ned and anyone else who needs it.

Off tomorrow so will catch up then.

smee · 08/05/2013 21:30

Ash, somehow missed your post. Sorry Dr W lived up to his name (again!). Could you ask to speak to another Onc? Not even for a second opinion, more because you need a few different views to help you decide. Or would your Bowel Nurse be a good person to spend some time with talking it through? Kurri's right though, lots of us had dose reduction. Other idea, could you go to GP? I know mine was very good at listening if I needed another ear. I went a couple of times to just say 'what would you do?!'. He did do the head tilt, but I forgave him as he was so lovely. Grin

waving to Kurri the Luddite. Grin

KurriKurri · 08/05/2013 21:37

proud to be a technophobe Grin

NedSchneebly · 08/05/2013 21:38

Evening all Smile

sorry not to catch up properly with everyone's news - have raging headache so going in the bath to try and ease it.

just wanted to come on and wish topsy every positive vibe for CT tomorrow and gigfor genetics appointment. Hope all goes well.

my appointment is not til 4pm, so going to work as usual then getting away early to pick up DH so he can come with me. Will report back as soon as I can, and have a proper catch up.

Lots of love to everyone x x x x x x x

malteserzz · 08/05/2013 22:04

Night all
Good luck to everyone with appointments tomorrow and I hope you sleep well, I've ran out of tablets so fear I will be back in the middle of the night when everything always seems worse xx

topsyturner · 08/05/2013 23:26

Still up here .
Rummaging through the kitchen for food .
Think it's going to be quiche and potato salad .
Shame , fancied something very unhealthy !

Gigondas · 08/05/2013 23:35

Make us some topsy-having to Mn quietly while mr gig and mini snore. Made mistake of nap this pm so can't sleep now.

Waves at malt-can you get some more tabs to tide you over tomorrow?

Enjoyed apprentice but won't say more til all watched it.

Kurri- sounds like old lady dog bit better if having hair cut.

Gigondas · 08/05/2013 23:42

And as am awake have been thinking about best way to sort meet up. Does everyone have access to messages on here? If not Te me know as can email separately.

Also waves at notjenkins as just seen your post (and sparkle if you are up -I had a picc line, like gracie, not a port and bastard thing got infected ).

AshokanFarewell · 08/05/2013 23:45

Thanks for the advice KK and smee I shall read and reply properly tomorrow because... I'm in A&E. My temperature went up to 38.1 so had to come in but of course had gone down by the time I got here and they were ready for me! I'm hoping they'll give me antibiotics and send me home as nurse says it's too soon for immune issues from the chemo. I'm waiting for a trolley and to see a doctor :) I'm pretty sure it's pouchitis and Dr W was wrong.

I hope everyone is having a good evening and that the little gigs are sleeping quietly! :)

Gigondas · 08/05/2013 23:50

Oh ash poor you- sounds like pouchitis (immune issues do take about a week so nurse right). Hope you get lots of lovely drugs to help.

We need a virtual nightclub for us at minute.

Mini still asleep..she knows mama awake and is waiting to do her wake up call which is stand in cot and yell "baba" ( badger) then "dada" (as he picks her up). Mama gets a poke or if really lucky, smack when she arrives in our bed. Good to know who is first in family order with mini Grin.

KurriKurri · 09/05/2013 00:00

Oh Ash - you poor thing, but you are in the best place, hope they get you sorted out and you don't have to stay in. While you wait you can practise different ways of saying 'you were wrong, you wanker' for when you next see Dr W. Grin

Gig - hope you manage to get some sleep before mini Gig launches her attack Grin

Must say night night now, as I've remembered I have to get up early tomorrow. xx

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 00:03

Cannula in so it would seem I'm not going home! :) they just took some blood cultures and things and I'll be having some broad spectrum antibiotics. I explained about the pouchitis but honestly I think he thought I had made it up.

Mini gig sounds very cute although probably less cute when you're trying to sleep Grin virtual nightclub definitely in order.

Copthallresident · 09/05/2013 00:15

Adding good vibes for Topsy and Ned

Ash Hope you'll soon be feeling better, hospital definitely the place to be. Dr W is such a W, definitely an empathy free zone. What would it cost him to show some understanding that it is shit, literally Wink (sorry but couldn't resist) and give you some advice of the "if I were you" type. Obviously more than his fragile ego can withstand Angry The only thing is if he actually knew which was best I have no doubt he wouldn't miss out on the chance to pontificate so he obviously doesn't, and if he doesn't know, then you might as well toss a coin? I agree with others, talk it through with nurse/GP because it doesn't hurt to bounce it off a professional but take comfort that Oncology is a bit like medieval medicine and they are feeling about in the dark and always to some extent making it up as they go along, but all the recalibrating and delaying don't seem to make the difference. I also think some Oncs find it very hard to acknowledge what they are doing to their patients, the woncy oncy at my hospital definitely always makes patients feel they are personally culpable for or just being wimpy about side effects, because it couldn't possibly be their poison, you can understand the psychology..........

Gigs Goondog is here just waiting for the call, he has a 4 second memory so not nursing any hurt from last night Grin I am sure he would love a badger hunt....

There are a few books I would recommend on China that would give you that understanding of how people thought/think, what motivates their actions, and are really readable too, so that you don't take the lazy way of understanding through a modern western perspective / prejudice/ being overly concerned with treating people as "others" . I think Hilary Mantel achieves that (though actually not studied Tudor History seriously so maybe wrong) I had a kind of road to Damascus doing my MA when suddenly realised I had got it all wrong when I lived there, and my thesis is all about empathising. I would love something similar?

smee Grin as if having the most common name of the 60s wasn't bad enough.....

In very good mood as BRILLIANT episode of Mad Men and may have had to mix myself a Martini when realised how good, best since the lawnmower I totally hate Murdoch, all the political manipulation, morally bankrupt reporting and phone hacking Angry Angry but also for hijacking Mad Men so I can't talk about it to any of my friends Angry Angry Angry Angry

Tomorrow group of friends going to see recording of Would I lie to you, been a few times now, they record for two hours and then cut what doesn't work (very little) and what is too rude (a lot) Grin looking forward to it, As well as Rob Brydon David Mitchell and Lee Mack have previously seen such comic geniuses as Richard Madeley Fern Britton and Terry Wogan, all particularly rude and indiscreet, on all occasions had to be warned not to repeat outside the studio as could lead to libel actions Shock

Sounds like there is going to be a night shift but that Martini might just do the trick for me............but thinking of you in advance

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 00:15

Oh the cultures- I remember that. And being stuck in hospital to doses up on anti bios driving this lt mad with my moaning.

What have you got as books, tv or audio to entertaining you aren't knitting ash?

Copthallresident · 09/05/2013 00:33

Ash When I was stuck in hospital as they tried to work out which bug it was (turned out it was strep) 9/11 happened. I was a bit out of it with a high temperature so I though it was a Bruce Willis film until I turned the sound up. Sad

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 00:37

Oh Ash that's a pain in the butt !
But you are def in the right place .
A&E is a shitty place to be though late at night isn't it ?
My one emergency admittance (my miraculousl remission causing post op infection) was entertaining !
Full of drunk who had walked to casualty with broken legs !!!
And involved me being transferred to another hospital by ambo at 3am .

Tummy full now , there's quiche left if you want Gigs ?
What colour are you having the juniors bedroom painted ?

Watching 24 hours in A&E .
I really shouldn't watch things like this ...
