For SoftStuff, tyedye and anyone else who wants to join.

The rules are that you HAVE to sign in every night to let us know TRUTHFULLY how much you have drunk. You need to let us know your triggers too. So if you resisted for 12 hours but then cracked and had a beer - what finally snapped?

We'll be here to give you encouragement, support, advice and opinions.

Wow... lots of new names since i last signed in!!

I've been away for half-term and a bit on hols in Egypt. (a muslim non-drinking kinda place i thought). However, hotel wasnt. I had a mini-bar in my room that was the same price as drinking 'downstairs'. Need I say more? I ran up a bar bill of 100 quid in 6 days! in my defence, i have to say the drink was expensive (£3.40 for a can of mediocre lager).

Glad the thread is still going... i need it still (sad). Sat here typing whilst just draining my second tin of Grolsch. Gotta go back to work tomorrow but I still feely holiday-ish, which translates as 'get rat-arsed-ish'.

Hope everyone has been well and ok whilst ive been away. I would have checked in, but hotel wanted 12 quid for half an hour on line (shock)

haven't read all the messages, just wanted to get myself on here, currently drinking between 1 and 2 bottles of wine a night and fully aware this is potentiallly antisocial, however, feel this is my right and relaxation at the mo. have two dd's, one 2.2, one nearly 1. no excuse, however, me surviving by any which way is a priority.X.

Totally with you on the relaxation / survival thing jumble!!! Grin and welcome. I didn't do too well last night, 2 large gins and 1/2 bottle of red, all downed pretty quickly too as I was out with ds until nearly nine - shattered!!! Never mind, will keep at it. (the trying not the guzzling Grin)

I'm reporting a good controlled week so far!
Drinking one very weak wine and soda on Monday and two even weaker ones last night.
Feeling that although njot going sans alcohol per se, I've seriously cut down the amount of alcohol. I've not even drunk a 1/4 bottle - in my drinks I have about 2cms of wine and tons of soda.
For some reason you do not crave more after you finish them! And my crux failure time is 5-7pm - after that I'm fine...
Plus I'm ttc and always try to cut down after I@ve ovulated, just in case...
Wish dp would stop drinking beer though when he is away.

Found this jumble, if it's any help.
To calculate the number of units you need to know the strength of the drink (% ABV) and amount of liquid in millimetres (one pint is 568ml; a standard glass of wine 175ml). You multiply the amount of drink in millilitres by the percentage ABV, and then divide by 1,000.

So, a glass of 9% white would be 1.6 units, a glass of 12% would be 2.1 units.

One entire bottle of 9% would be 6.3 units, 12% would be 8.4 units. Pretty useful calc actually isn't it?

That is a useful calculation. So I worked out that a 'tinny' of 4% lager is 2 units. While one of 5% lager is 3 units. So I'm on, generally 4 units a day, 28 units a week. Double what I'm supposed to have! I also worked out that if for two days I didn't drink anything at all I'd be down to 20 units a week which is much better as there's some debate as to whether a woman's limit should be 14 a week or 21.

Now ... the big question is ... how do I manage two alcohol free nights a week ...

Incidentally would anyone else like to start a new thread? I'm on dial-up and it's taking me an age to load this one. Perhaps we could start with a brief introduction of ourselves, our drinking habits and our aims?

Ignore me if that seems too anal.

Well, I carried on drinking last night and chatting to a mate on msn. Got through FOUR cans of Grolsch. I feel totally unmotivated to give up again at the moment, despite doing so well before my holiday.

Imaginaryfriend.... about that new thread... this one started at the very beginning with introductions and honest confessions about how much we were drinking. I don't think most people who have been here from the beginning would want to repeat it all again to be honest. Anyone else think differently????

I know dial up is a pain in the arse coz I've only just got broad band myself, due to living in rural area.

Ok, themoon, I just thought that as there's quite a few new names we could all get a picture of our individual problems. i didn't mean in a Big Confessional sort of way, more a 'I'm imaginaryfriend, I drink 2-3 big cans of beer a night, have done so for a couple of years, I'd like to cut down' etc. But no worries. I'll wait until any other dial-uppers also have problems with the length.

That drinkaware site is very thought provoking and shaming fiofio.
Sobering one could say :)
I am very motivated to keep off this week... it all falls apar when dp comes home, I canot cope with him drinking when I can't
I need to sort that out and find a way to deal with it
I could just ask him not to drink I guess :) But then I should be able to say no shouldn't I?
WTF?

How about 'Think you drink too much? Sign up here' - a bit dull and straightforward but would also attract other people?

Tyedye... cider in the afternoon?? Now that's the only thing that does give me a hangover. I was fit as a flea at getting up time today after 4 cans of strong lager last night, but cider ... i get headache just thinking about it.

Was gonna go out running tonight at 8pm, but now am contemplating a hot bath and a bottle of wine or can of stella or three. Its that 'I cant be arsed to do something active' feeling.

Am moving house very soon (signed contract today) plus had a very hectic day at work, so got that 'I deserve a drink' feeling. Plus DH is out and there's summat good on the telly at 9pm... psychological thriller.... just the right drinking trigger for me.
