For SoftStuff, tyedye and anyone else who wants to join.

The rules are that you HAVE to sign in every night to let us know TRUTHFULLY how much you have drunk. You need to let us know your triggers too. So if you resisted for 12 hours but then cracked and had a beer - what finally snapped?

We'll be here to give you encouragement, support, advice and opinions.

Sorry, meant to add, I know a whole shedful of people who drink more than me, and are still driving. And I've never drunk and driven.

Well done to all you lot, but I hope you don't mind if I explain the shittiest, crappiest day for years.

Last January I drank a lot. Before that I drank so much and tried so very hard to stop that I ended up fitting and in hospital.

They assigned me a lovely pyschiatrist, who I've been seeing now for just over 2 years. I went with a 'who, ho, I'm going to get my driving license back in January!' To which he answered no, you're not, you drank half a bottle of wine for two weeks last August.

He told me he knew I was about to cry, I told him I wasn't (and didn't), but a whole efffing year again without being able to drive???? I know people who drink more than that daily who manage to (not drink and drive) but keep their license.

It just seems so unfair. If I had been untruthful to him, I'd be collecting my children from school and everything else that goes with it.

So, I thought **it. And went out and bought a bottle of wine tonight. And am drinking it. If there's a year to go, I may as well make the last of it.

Thing is, much as I love and appreciate talking and having a laugh with psychiatrist, and a hug before I leave him, how long do you need to leave it before you realise something isn't happening that's supposed to?

I was wondering how everyone else was getting on too.

My own relationship with alcohol continues its bumpy path. This weekend has been particularly bad and I've knocked back a bottle of wine a night, plus the odd pernod.

Up to middle of april I'd been managing to stay dry all week and then just half a bottle on Friday and half on Saturday nights.

I thought I was doing so well, so not sure how I ended up back at square one again really.

I thought I would bump this to see how everyone is getting on.

I have decided to quit booze altogether and I am a much better person for it. I never drank regularly or heavily but something happened recently and it was scary and so I thought I should just stop.

So I did. 3 weeks today.

Is that every night?. I drank about that much last night over a meal with friends. Quite often drink a whole bottle to myself, but not every night though.

Is a bottle & a half of wine enough to be a worry in one nite?

Fi I am at the same place as you, one or two really weak wine and sodas, no desire for anymore. Todat went to supermarket thought I'll grab a couple of real ales for this afternoon, did not have my fave in so was able to walk away.
Am feeling very proud :)

How about calling the new thread 'down the boozer' or 'the tap room'

I'm half way down my 2nd can of lager, watching the same programme as you I guess themoon?

I'm happy to start a new thread if everyone's agreeable, just took me 7 mins to load this one just now ... groan ... shall I go for the pissheads title then or something more optimistic about quitting drink? Grin [sips lager and hiccups]

I too like the sound of piss heads the sequel. Am 2 glasses of whiskey and 2 glasses of wine down already, so guess today is not a good day. Grin. I just feel so desperate for that relaxing whoosh after a hard day, I really can't resist. But know I should. But for tonight, don't care. Grin.

Tyedye... cider in the afternoon?? Now that's the only thing that does give me a hangover. I was fit as a flea at getting up time today after 4 cans of strong lager last night, but cider ... i get headache just thinking about it.

Was gonna go out running tonight at 8pm, but now am contemplating a hot bath and a bottle of wine or can of stella or three. Its that 'I cant be arsed to do something active' feeling.

Am moving house very soon (signed contract today) plus had a very hectic day at work, so got that 'I deserve a drink' feeling. Plus DH is out and there's summat good on the telly at 9pm... psychological thriller.... just the right drinking trigger for me.

How about 'Think you drink too much? Sign up here' - a bit dull and straightforward but would also attract other people?
