For SoftStuff, tyedye and anyone else who wants to join.

The rules are that you HAVE to sign in every night to let us know TRUTHFULLY how much you have drunk. You need to let us know your triggers too. So if you resisted for 12 hours but then cracked and had a beer - what finally snapped?

We'll be here to give you encouragement, support, advice and opinions.

OP posts:
blueteddy · 15/05/2006 14:36

Hope you are okay, tyedye.

pepperpots · 15/05/2006 16:20

Bit of a weird question ladies???? Has anyone felt incredibly sick since stopping drinking? I am on day 8 of no drink and feel very poorly Sad i have a cold but feel very sick on top of it, just wondered if anyone felt the same

blueteddy · 15/05/2006 16:43

Can't help you there, pepperpots - but then I guess I haven't given up for long enough!
Are you sure you don't have a bit of a bug or something?

Crystaltips · 15/05/2006 17:04

ooooh Yes !!

For a couple of mornings ( having given up ) I had the hangover from hell ..... presume it was me going cold turkey Blush

dandycandyjellybean · 15/05/2006 20:45

Hello, don't know if I'm allowed back coz I upset someone yesterday (which I feel terrible about, this thread has been nothing but supportive so far, trust me to spoil it!!!!), but I'm feeling the need for some support. Yet again I started the day thinking I would only have a couple of glasses of wine (just like a normal person) and yet again I'm a 1/4 of a way down a bottle of whiskey. I feel like a total failure. Sad SadSad SadSad SadSad SadSad SadSad SadSad SadSad Sad

martian · 15/05/2006 22:16

cubby, I don't think you offended anyone seriously. Just a difference of opinion it seemed to me?

So, how are you doing? Did you get half way down the bottle of whisky or did you manage to stop?

kokeshi · 15/05/2006 22:29

Hi all, welcome to ODAAT and cubby! You're in good company, we've built up a really trusting thread here and feel free to post about how/where you are regardless if you feel you have done well or slipped up.

Cubby, I wasn't on here yesterday, if I had been I would have assured you that I completely understand where you are coming from, and please don't take things to heart. For those of us who have and are still experiencing a daily struggle, the one thing we have in common is that drink tends to control us, instead of us controlling it, no matter how many rules we set for ourselves. Please don't be put off from coming on board with us...Smile

ODAAT, it's great to have you here too and thank you for being so honest and sharing with us. I think it's so enriching for us all to hear different experiences and to know that we're not alone.

(((((hugs))))) to everyone else too and thank you for all your kind words of support Smile

themoon66 · 16/05/2006 10:02

Cubby, don't worry about the whiskey. Just try again tonight Smile.

Pepperpots... I had 5 drink-free days last week and experienced a sick feeling, headache and a general strangeness about myself... sort of dizzy and a bit spaced out.

I drank too much Friday (3 cans of stella), Saturday (4 cans of stella) and Sunday (whole bottle of cava).

Last night I was good and tried cranberry juice and diet lemonade, which wasn't bad at all. I got an early night too. Feeling better today.

tyedye · 16/05/2006 10:12

i seem to have added a major health scare to my problems,8 wks for test results!Shock

pepperpots · 16/05/2006 10:22

God i feel really poorly this morning, have been eating peppermints ;like they are going put of fashion!!!! Feels like morning sickness (although it def isn't). I feel that bad that even the thought of alcohol is turning my stomach Confused have started taking milk thistle today hopefully build my liver back up and reduce my bile levels. Cubby how are you doing this morning?

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 10:46

Hi there,
Well done moony for last night...generally anyone who drinks regularly will experience these problems, not just those who're putting away as much as I did!

For anyone who isn't aware of how many symptoms can be attributed...I googled and found this list:

Shakes
Sweating
Hangovers
Headaches
Nausea and vomiting
Stomach pains and cramps
Sex problems
Poor appetite
Poor sleep
Anxiety
Feeling “down”
Sudden mood changes
In a few people the withdrawal symptoms can be very serious indeed. The most frequently occurring of these are:
Hallucinations *
Paranoid ideas *
Disorientation *
Psychosis *
Severe memory problems
Clinical depression
Epileptic fits
*possible sign of “DT’s or Delirium Tremens

HTH

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 10:54

Tyedye, sorry to hear that...been thinking of you. ((((((hugs)))))

Cubby, I heard Milk Thistle is good for this, and I was also prescibed vitamin B complex, as alcohol promotes the destruction and loss of it from the body. IT's needed for almost everything...nervous system, immune system, circulatory system. I don't want to bang on too much with lists! But, there's a link \link{http://www.sahealthinfo.org/nutrition/vitaminminerals/vitamins/highriskgroups.htm#Alcohol\here}

tyedye · 16/05/2006 10:55

You just described my dpGrin

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 10:56

Sorry, that was to pepperpots Blush

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 10:58

Yeah, I managed to make my way down the whole list...what an achievement eh! Grin

martian · 16/05/2006 11:01

tyedye, what's your health scare about honey?

kokeshi, is that list of side effects on withdrawing from alcohol, or for while you're drinking it? Or both???

I drank too much yesterday, 4 large cans, over my personal limit. Strange because I'd been being more careful than normal after joining this thread. Yesterday was just one of those days. My kidneys hurt today. Anyone else get this?

tyedye · 16/05/2006 11:16

I know that was to pepperpots,i was just being childish, sorry!!I had my smear yesterday,2+ yrs late.I have been bleeding between usual cycle.thought it was stress.
Nurse told me to see gp,who i rang this morning as smear left me in pain.
He said she wrote on my notes that i required further investigation and that i had "erosion"

pepperpots · 16/05/2006 11:29

thanks kokeshi god i thought it was just me Smile Thought i might have eaten something dodgy. Just another hurdle to get over Sad i hope this doesnt last long. Am still feeling low and have invested in st.johns wort (have spoken to gp about it)

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 11:32

Oh, how awful Tyedye. I can't believe you have to wait 8 weeks for any results...that's horrendous. You have such a lot to deal with, I hope you get some good news.

pepperpots · 16/05/2006 11:34

Tye dye i know its easier said than done but try not to worry. If it was anything serious they would want you straight away. Smile

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 11:44

Martian, you can get these symptoms while you are drinking alcohol as well. Actually, whenever you are not drinking, if you are a regular drinker, you are withdrawing (IYSWIM). The obvious ones (shaking, sweating) are def withdrawal, but stomach pains (gastritis)can be due to an increased production of acid, caused by alcohol, which irritates the stomach lining. Alcohol also puts a strain on the kidneys. In fact it affects every organ in the body to some degree...

Bumblelion · 16/05/2006 12:29

I now wish to join your club.

Last night was the first night that I have no had an alcoholic drink (vodka and diet coke) in about 18 months.

One day at a time.

tyedye · 16/05/2006 12:33

warm welcome bumblelion,well doneSmile

kokeshi · 16/05/2006 12:40

Well done Bumblelion, how do you feel?

themoon66 · 16/05/2006 12:45

Welcome Bumblelion. And well done on last night. How are you feeling today?? How much do you normally drink in a day and do you recognise what your triggers are?? (I drink to relax or coz I'm bored I think).
