Oops x-posted - credit where it is due topsy - Sauron is the healing dog Grin
Are you thinking of getting a puppy? - awww go on, go on, go on mum. Muuuuuuum, please, please - I'll look after it Grin Grin

That course sounds really good Gig, - would love to know the book titles when you have a minute Smile - sorry Big Gig got thumped though Sad

Gigondas · 15/02/2013 16:55

Kurri can I ask a personal question as you are expert on neuralgia pain and this is what I now have with my dodgy shoulder. Does codeine not make you horribly constipated and how do you cope? I don't want to stop taking it as it's the only thing that works well but side effects are horrendous.

Grin At Pervy sharks- they are clearly tit sharks as haven't tackled
Anyone else since they chomped my behind.

Gigondas · 15/02/2013 17:03

Does sauron need a minion then topsy?

I have said before but I know that we will be getting a dog at some point- just want to wait til mini gig slightly less small and loony which might be a long wait on the last one. I knew I was smug too soon about how big gig Didnt climb, post stuff into the loo/bath, hide things, poke things etc she also doesn't have an off switch and her timer seems faulty.

KurriKurri · 15/02/2013 17:10

Gig - by no means an expert, but I have some high strength co codamol from the GP, which I take when I have to - I just take it at night, - if I took it all the time I'd get v.constipated. Sometimes I take one co codamol and one paracetamol combo, sometimes I take my amytriptiline (I have two different strengths of that, but the lower dose doesn't work and the higher dose knocks me out)

Usually I cope OK, but sometimes it all gets a bit on top of me and I feel quite down about it. I'm lucky in that my pain is on my head, so it doesn't restrict movement or make doing anything painful. SHoulder pain must be very debilitating esp. with a toddler.
Mine's just 'there' most of the time, and then it starts what I call 'firing off' - jabs of very acute pain, and they do make me stop what I'm doing - I can't concentrate if I have those, or talk to people properly.

I wish I could give more tips, but I don't really think mine is very well managed atm. if the GP comes up with anything when I see him, I'll pass it on. A friend of mine who has neuralgia after a TIA (I think it's called - one of those mini strokes) has gabapentin, for hers - which is an anti epilepsy drug I believe, and she says it works for her most of the time.

Amytrip. is an anti depressant which works on nerve pain - but I wonder what else it does to your body, - it certainly doesn't improve my mood! Grin

Gigondas · 15/02/2013 17:16

Hmm thanks kurri- I am seeing specialist dr so will see what he says (agree Gp well meaning but don't really do pain as specialism). I get what you mean about shooting pains and it coming and going as it does get worse as day goes on. I also find codeine can make me feel a bit dozy.

And i find my other arm very useful for lifting The little sack of spuds mini gig.

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/02/2013 18:05

when my brother was teaching PGL kids to sail he used top tell them his scar (from spleen removal - it runs down his abdomen) was a shark bite !
Interestingly on my scan you can see how one breast is much smaller (the cancer one) I feel quite appalled by the fat bits -ew.

Copthallresident · 15/02/2013 18:30

gigs KK I accompanied a friend who suffered from constant nerve pain, actually in her lower abdomen, who came over to the UK to consult with a famous pain specialist, after seeing countless gynaes and urologists? (sorry having a dyslexic moment finding the right word but wee doctor). He was actually a bit of an arse, demanded she stop taking everything already prescribed and submit to his regime, and she can be a bit of a control freak, so she got arsey right back at him, and then he rang her temporary UK GP to complain and it all got rather silly BUT in the end what he recommended did work. If you get to the point you need somewhere else to turn, even to an arse, I can ask for his details again. He practised out of National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery off Russell Square and has had a lot of success with people experiencing long term chronic pain, often not believed.

When little Copt was at nursery she got bitten by another boy, nursery had a word with me to apologise and I shrugged it off as one of those things that kids do before they learn better, little Copt had forgotten about it by the time I picked her up. Except I then got a very earnest two page letter of grovelling apology from his mortified parents with reference to "the serious biting incident" promising they took it very seriously and were going to seek God's guidance on how they cope with this terrible trait in their son Shock so then I had to seek them out and have embarrassing conversation to try and point out it really wasn't anything approaching a "we need to talk about Kevin" issue!!

Definitely don't do dog until ready, goon dog subjected me to experience of having baby, toddler, child and adolescent but all packed into 18 months, and yes climbed, drank from loo/bath, hid things, poked gnawed and jumped up at things, still doesn't have an off switch and timer very faulty when it comes to foxes sticking their tongues out at him at the back door in the middle of the night. I spent most of the first 18 months chasing him around Marble Hill Park apologising profusely to all he encountered ......... Come to think of it still spend most of time apologising profusely to everyone he encounters. He nearly floored the man who came to fix the cooker hood an hour or so ago. Blush

Copthallresident · 15/02/2013 18:34

Oh and also is a Houdini escapologist, entire garden now ringed with goon dog proof devices to foil his tunnelling and fence dismantling antics

HerNextDoorAt21 · 15/02/2013 20:02

I have just caught up again and horrified at the way Asho has been treated - well done for reporting Dr Wanker !!

Camping - I camped all of my childhood years in Cornwall, near to Padstow and would be happy to camp with my DCC but DH is not that keen - he can handle a touring caravan so waiting for a lottery win to realise that dream ! We are going to Cornwall thsi year - long trek from N Ireland !

topsy I can just visualise your VW Camper holiday .... giggling at the thought !

As for changing in changing rooms, I don't think it would bother me - if people want to look, I would blatantly give them something to look at ! Breast feeding is still more taboo in N Ireland than the rest of the UK so I would blatantly breast feed in full view if I could detect whisperings of how 'terrible' it was. I almost invited people to comment - hmmm am I a danger seeker ?

mas so pleased to read that your mets have shrunk and also that you had a positive appointment with the onc and BCN

I was prescribed EVEN MORE antibiotics today by the GP as a belt and braces approach to my open wound - the treatment nurse thought that the tissue was necrosed :( I wish my surgeon would hurry back from her holiday, I am paranoid that I am going to get a bad infection and have to be re-opened (a la topsy)

Hope everyone is well .... just of to open a wee bottle of red (stuff the antibiotics !!!!)

smee · 15/02/2013 20:57

Just nipped in to see if any word from MAS and HOORAY for you. That is brilliant news. Must have been a huge relief. Smile Smile Smile

Will catch up tomorrow if I can. Only just in from work. Been a very long day. Need Wine. Hope you all have some. Smile

jchocchip · 15/02/2013 21:20

Great news mas

AshokanFarewell · 15/02/2013 21:24

Hi all,

MAS fantastic news, very pleased for you :)

HND sorry to hear you're still having problems, I hope your wound gets sorted soon, Thanks for you.

I emailed a full report to PALS today and also had a call fom my colorectal nurse. She spoke to Dr Wanker and he has agreed to apologise to me formally but he doesn't think he did anything wrong. She is going to arrange to be at my next appointment or have a Macmillan nurse there. Apparently he was trying to get through to me as he thinks I'm too emotional to take in what he says. All very well except I've been completely calm and rational in all of our appointments until he made me cry so I think he is just making excuses!

copt goon dog sounds hilarious, but hard work! I bet he's worth it for the snuggles though? :) nothing like stroking a dog to help forget all your worries.

Gig the course sounds really good, perhaps they've been getting tips from the thread Grin

topsyturner · 15/02/2013 21:28

Think goon dog and pig/dog should meet up .
Between them they could take over the world .
And he has always wanted a minion (would goon dog find minion-hood an acceptable career choice ?)

Gigs do NOT get a dog till you are very very sure .
We talked about it for years , and finally got pig/dog when DD was 3 1/2 .
It is just like having another baby .
Pig/dog is 6 this summer and still behaves like a very rude teenaged boy GrinGrinGrin

DH is upstairs sighing and swearing .
DDs radiator has sprung a leak .
Was a massive gushy one !

This house is gradually falling to pieces . Anyone want to buy it off us ???

topsyturner · 15/02/2013 21:31

X post Ash
Good work sending the report in .
I didn't think for a moment that Dr Arsehole would think that he had done anything wrong , but at least now he will think twice about abusing another patient !

topsyturner · 15/02/2013 21:33

HND once said she would pay good money to watch DH and I attempt to put a tent up !
we never have full blown rows whilst attempting anything remotely practical or DIYish , oh no , not us

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/02/2013 22:00

thanks all for being pleased at results - feeling a bit better about diagnosis at the moment- the fact that the chemo has worked makes it seem more real, but in a good way,if that makes any sense.
So sorry to have not been much on this thread today - will be back to normal soon !

OP posts:
amberlight · 16/02/2013 06:23

MAS so pleased that the results are good :-)

Copthallresident · 16/02/2013 11:44

Topsy Yes goondog definitely a rude teenage boy, although now 8 and I think feels it is time for a touch of the mid life crisis too . He is definitely minion /wimp rather than alpa dog, in fact he is doggy equivalent of annoying boy /stalker who trails around after everyone desperate to be their friend. However he is a bit racist, once picked on by a breed he then assumes all of them are badduns so will run a mile if Sauron is black lab, staffie, rottweiller, weimaramer thingy, Visla, pointer, Jack Russell, Portugeese water dog, etc etc etc. However if gold coloured lab or cocker spaniel he will never ever leave him alone.......

Ashokan Yes he is very snuggly, providing he has not rolled in fox poo.....

We have one of those houses, like the forth road bridge before they invented permanent paint, always something going wrong, just noticed flat roof leaking for nth time..........

jchocchip · 16/02/2013 11:56

Our house is still at the construction stage! Had loft conv b4 moved in but didn't finish decorating so still loads to do. Need a 5 year plan Grin Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend :)

topsyturner · 16/02/2013 12:43

Pig/dog is a German shepherd .
Although he does think he is a lap dog ...

KurriKurri · 16/02/2013 12:48

aaaaaaaaaaargh - our oil has run out - no heating until tuesday Sad ,

also I have managed to pull a muscle where the top of the back of my thigh meets my bum and my groin. What muscle is that - DD has suggested the Underbum muscle - but I suspect her qualifications are from the internet.

Hi and waving to everyone.

Gigondas · 16/02/2013 13:34

Tis the glutes or top of hamstring- I know it well as was what was chomped by the shark. I suggest sitting on affected area and eating cake as a cure.

Thanks for all tips on dogs- I will try to stop dh looking at puppy pics (and did suggest gumtree is not where you look for puppies Hmm).

Ou seminar was good- feel bit daunted at getting back to it but also more focussed as was helpful in helping identify what is important and also how/what work needed.

Now have to sort out packing as off to French France for few days tomorrow so best hurry if you want to stow away.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/02/2013 13:44

ooh French France - have a fab time gig
grr about muscle kk and heating oil Sad Have you fan heaters and whatnot ? Having a bit of an anxty thing about not having measurements of nodules on either scan -how can they tell it's smaller just by looking ? and what if one scan picture is a larger scale than another ? I am tying myself in knots. bah.
Making trifle and baby's bottom for pudding as having big curry nite in with friends - having lots of yummy things delivered.Dh has bought much beer.

Topsy One overeager minion for Sauron, German Shepherds are amongst his favourites due to nice lady german shepherd he likes to pester play with. Not sure how much use he will be, even the cat bullies him! However he will be only too happy to dispense healing licks to all.

MAS have a lovely evening. These radiologists do know their stuff, they can often see more than the doctors.

NedSchneebly · 16/02/2013 15:53

Blimey, a few days away and I have missed loads. Thought I had better post before this thread fills up and a new one starts without me Smile

Whoopee doo and Yippee for MAS results (did see on FB so not too behind on that one!) That is such good news! (what is baby's bottom pudding btw?)

Copt my Jack Russells definitely have the touch of the teenager about them. #1 dog's latest irritating habit is to go outside (we have a cat dog flap) to have a wee, and then going upstairs and pooing on the landing Hmm very irritating and the smell hits you as you walk into the house. Never mind horse, Tesco might be getting some Korean specials if she carries on. . .

kurri hope you can stay warm til Tuesday. Sorry to hear about the underbum muscle. Look here to identify its fancy name. . . I definitely think sitting down and eating cake is the answer. Its medicinal, doncha know?

smee you working too hard again? Hope you can get some time off with T this week. DS is knackered, especially after a busy day with DM yesterday as his school had a training day. Tank Museum, park and a picnic in the sunshine!

I might tentatively suggest that I had quite a good week in school this week. . . Kids reasonably well behaved and got quite a lot done. My jobshare and I are beginning to lose patience with the other year 1 teacher, who is doing very little shared planning, despite the fact that she is full time, and the planning she's done is not thought out properly and with lots of bits missing, she's not following the plans we have written, and making resources (worksheets etc) for her class and not sharing them with us. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh Angry

Going to parents on MOnday, cinema with DSis Monday pm, then DHs 3 cousins coming to stay next weekend. Cue a very raucous and gluttonous time, I fear!

Hope everyone is OK - we've got sun here, but DS wants to watch The Smurfs. . . . Confused

Lots of love to you all x x x
