initial tests show he could have cancer of the oesophagus, he is going for more this week

i found out when i was away in thailand, i just got back today

i pretty much know what the outlook is for him if it is the case, but i wondered if anyone has any experience of it

it's such a huge shock, he is only 43

Lou, so sorry to hear this. I mentioned it to my dh as he and your xh sometimes post on the same fishing forum, and he was very sad to hear it too.

tamum · 21/03/2006 20:54

lou, I don't suppose this will be of any comfort, but John Diamond, a writer and journalist, had this. He died I'm afraid, but write a brilliant book called C. \link{http://www.oatridge.co.uk/cancer.shtml\This} is a diary of sorts written by someone with oesophageal cancer- it has very grim statistics at the start, but it's worth reading on. I am so sorry :(

lou33 · 21/03/2006 20:55

well i am really hoping it is something else, but he has all the symptoms , so i will be v shocked if it comes back as something else

thanks for all your support

i thought we had gone through enough over the years, but it seems not

he isnt really talking about it yet, though i just got back, as i said, but i can see he is terrified

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/03/2006 22:43

So sorry Lou Sad - hope the tests come back OK.

A friend's father is currently fighting this cancer. He's known for about a year now - has had chemo then an attempt at surgery but they were unable to remove it as the tumour was close to large blood vessels. He's had further chemo and radiotherapy - doing OK at the moment but no guarantees I'm afraid. Your dh is very young - this chap is in his 60s.

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:45
