Hugs to you kurri and missing your dad and I am another one who has memory problems. I have the memory span of a goldfish, frequently forget tablets, pin numbers and I have awful trouble remembering who said what on this thread.

1in8 still not sure about Herceptin, no-one would give me a straight answer in hospital so will speak to onc on Friday and see what he says. As for veins, etc my onc and surgeon both gave the nurse the go ahead to use my operation side arm if need be for chemo and they used that arm for my angiogram however I only had my sentinel node removed so not sure if that makes a difference.

gigs hope you manage to avoid hospital stay for picc line.

overthemill hope you stay awake long enough for your quiz. will be thinking of you on Wednesday.

FIL here to watch Ryder Cup with DH and then we have friends coming for a Chinese later so had a bit of a cleaning frenzy so nothing too exciting here.

Gigondas · 29/09/2012 16:06

Sad for gracie and kurri missing dads.

I hope gracie that you get some access to tv and you don't have to watch the Ryder cup.

graciesmall09 · 29/09/2012 16:39

Nope gigs TV according to DH is only showing Ryder Cup until Monday Grin. FIL came over yesterday as well. We haven't actually told him that we have friends coming tonight so I am hoping he doesn't stay too late. Tonight was actually organised so that DH and my friend's husband can watch the golf together. How sad is that?

overthemill · 29/09/2012 16:42

thanks for all good wishes, you chaps (chapesses??) keep me sane!

question - do you hink in your collective wisdom that i could have a day trip to france during chemo (specifically at half term)? its my most favourite place and i know its risky but too risky???

smee · 29/09/2012 17:23

OTM, I'll be rooting for you on Wednesday too. With France, it's only a day trip so why not. Work out when you feel okay in your cycle first, then book so it coincides.

Kurri, Sad. I have memory problems too and I also worry about Alzheimers, as my mum has it. I have decided to just ignore it and let BC paranoia rather than Alzheimers Paranoia keep me awake at 3am. [hmm..]

1in8, I was told definitely not to use the cancer side, due to node removal. I had some bloods taken last week and it took them four goes. Veins must be still completely shot from chemo. I thought they could go for the foot or somewhere else like that. Might be worth a try before you hurtle to a Picc line.

Gig, bugger about the anaemia and the Picc line. Are you taking any iron supplements. Seem to remember you have to watch which ones.. Which recipe book are you talking about? I need a new cake-friendly one. My one's a 1950's BeRo Cookbook, so a bit ragged now.

Waving to all. Just back from a conker hunt. Love this time of year. Babysitting for a friend tonight. Glam as ever here. Grin

topsyturner · 29/09/2012 17:42

Just a quickie , but wanted to say to you kk that UTIs very commonly cause memory lapses and confusion .
I have seen ladies that you would swear had advanced Alzheimer's . They started a course of anti bs , and 24 hours later were quite lucid .

So between your UTI and chemo brain , it's not surprising that you have forgotten a few things .

I set the bell on my oven to remind me of absolutely everything .
Sometimes the bell goes off though and can't for the life of me remember why I set it !
Grin

Off next door to help my friend make the curry gravies for an Indian night she is throwing for me next week for my 43 33rd birthday !
Much wine will be involved tonight , so be prepared for some late night soppy posts from me ...

topsyturner · 29/09/2012 17:43

And OTM I went away for a week to a house in the south of Ireland I between chemos .
I think if you are handling the chemo well , it shouldn't be a problem .

KurriKurri · 29/09/2012 18:13

thanks for reassurances - it's good to know I'm not the only one who forget stuff (not that I'm wishing memory problems on any of you, but you know what I mean) and yes topsy - UTI could very well have played a part - I did feel quite unwell with it last week, and I think I'd had it a few days before I got the weeing pain and realised what it was, - thought I just had a virus that was making me feel a bit off.

Smee- I think I have that BeRo cookbook - inherited from my MIL Grin - I also have an ancient MacVities baking book, - but the recipes are nice - even if you do have to convert everything from fahrenheit and ounces Grin

Love conker hunting - I collected lots last year - can't help myself picking them up they are so beautiful and shiny. I gave them to a friend's grandson - so no one thought I was just a bonkers conkers lady Grin

Kitchen still pretty whiffy - I have sprayed air freshener about wildly to try to disguise the burnt stink. Not very successfull though.

Indian night sounds fab for your birthday topsy, - will watch out for the soppy posts Grin
DD and I are trying to decide what to do for DH's birthday on the 11th, - something on a budget, but fun. May take him up to the coast and have a picnic on the beach, with some birdwatching thrown in for good measure.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2012 19:24

Well, there's a surprise- trouser hunt was successful ! Went to Gap first of all and found that the 28 waist jeans in men's section fit- so he tried a couple of pairs and they're perfect -such a relief to know he actually fits a size !
Dh was going to make chicken and spinach curry but said he thought the chicken might be just going off and wouldn't risk it - he is being ultra careful- so nice sausages instead.
We had a neighbour in Brentford who allowed a pan of bottle teats to boil dry which set off her smoke detector - she came screaming out of her house and foolishly my friend and I ran into the smoke to try to find the detector to switch it off which was completely mad really- it was in the bathroom bin for some reason.
Hope picc doesn't cause probs gig - I'd be very queasy with a transfusion.

I'm back! ran a pb at parkrun this morning and finished not quite last! Nice sunset again tonight from the train.

yay for successful trouser hunt and conker hunt. A couple of years ago we collected loads, dh planted them and we eventually got some people to take nearly 200 conker trees off our hands to plant as part of a forest project around here... This year we have oaks and beech growing - we will collect some more seeds soon - may as well use the greenhouse for something...

I thought curry was what you did with iffy chicken originally - the spices to mask any dodgy flavours...

topsyturner · 29/09/2012 22:07

Ok . Am back .
Am slightly drunk .
Am I getting soppy ?
Oh yes !!!!
Mwah !
I luffs you all !

Anyone got any hangover cures .
Have strange feeling I might need them in the morning ...

topsyturner · 29/09/2012 22:13

Well done Jane on the PB !
You gave really given the running thing your all , well done !

How's Mas , Gigs , Gracie ?
Can't help feeling Mas is keeping it all in .
You are so supportive to us all , I just hope we can do the same for you .

Gracie if you want any rads company , I am a lady of leisure these days . I would be happy to meet you for any of your sessions .

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2012 22:19

fab jane ! well done Smile
The sausages were really yum, Hampshire ones too !
topsy hope you don't feel too hung over tomorrow ! will granny's lunch help ?
I'm ok really, half the time I think that this isn't happening, so I guess I'm still absorbing it all.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 29/09/2012 22:26

Granny's lunch always helps Mas !
And I truly understand the not "thinking its real" stuff .
Don't think any of this ever truly sinks in .

But please don't ever feel the need to be brave !
Not for us x

Gigondas · 30/09/2012 07:26

I am here but knackered -anaemia and the little gigs don't mix.

Is curry all ready now topsy? Think bacon roll and large coffee followed by large lunch at your mil best cure.

mas glad trouser hunt was a success (dss and dh both odd trouser sizes and gap was good for them). I took it in a bit too vividly so slumped into depression (and still can) but I do think it takes time . As topsy says anything we can do. Oh and saw from fb you are losing taste for stuff- that is pretty normal and it's week in now so probably when starting to feel it most .

jchoc well done on run.

Quiet day today before hospital tomorrow - might even do a rubbish tip trip. I know how to live.

And am offering both Nutella and vanilla pannacotta for fbs trolley.

jchocchip · 30/09/2012 07:52

Morning gig i'm tired too but must get up, have a Brew and get ready for my monthly session at church. Don't know how many children will turn up, but I think lego may be involved today!

Gigondas · 30/09/2012 09:16

That sounds like could get messy Grin

overthemill · 30/09/2012 11:30

quick question (and I am sure i asked before so apologies ) where did you all get your hats/scarves from? I'm looking online for soft jersey type cap/hat to wear now head getting a bit cold! Some of the sites i've seen are too many £££

Gigondas · 30/09/2012 11:40

I think kurri smee and topsy had some good links. I bought linen type ones in France which were nice in summer and a couple of headscarf things from fat face. Also got some posh scarves which were a lot but I have used tons.

My online purchase were horrid- buffs I can't use very well and some bizarre things with a tie that are meant to be easy to use but aren't and looked horrid .

overthemill · 30/09/2012 12:37

thanks gig will try to search on threads then. my hair is horridly sparse and i am embarrassing dd. so want something quick to throw on which is comfy. have wig for when i go 'out' (not that i ever do/will) but something for in house when her mates come over or go to tescos would be good. were buffs tricky - i thought they looked good!

how are you doing this week gig i had quite a good day yesterday, didnt get to the quiz but did stay up watching dr who etc until 10! a big improvement, and made dinner and lunch which i haven't done all week. Grin

Gigondas · 30/09/2012 12:49

I am doing ok in as much as am sort of managing without a nap some days and stumble on (til 11 on Friday) but I do feel bloody tired all the time.

I just don't like way buffs look compared to scarves so its a preference . Have got dispirited looking for decent hats for winter - ideally want fleecy lining so my head doesn't itch. Will let you know if find anything good.

jchocchip · 30/09/2012 14:54

heck 12 takers today age range 18 months to 14 years (littlest and biggest are not really in my group) BUT they were good as gold. Took friend down with me for crowd control, photocopied 6 extra puzzle sheets and the first thing I asked them to do (name cards) which was just for us to learn names they really stuck into decorating the backgrounds and chatting away so I let them. And the 18 month sat up to table with everyone else and crayons and really joined in....

Had a quick dinner and now going to pop over to see my Auntie before tea.

Dh has worked out his Grannie will be 99 in October so we may dash down to Kent for the weekend to eat cake.

jchocchip · 30/09/2012 15:12

How about knitted cotton jersey for a lining, I think they make baby hats out of that. I used to make fleece hats, but I think that could be itchy. Have you any idea what you are looking for? Have a friend from knitting group rosecottagecrafts who is thinking of adding an owl crochet hat to the range of things she makes but I think her crocheted pansys could adorn a nice beret or beany...

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/09/2012 15:12

well done jane !
As it's going to be chilly I've just ordered some cosy Emu boots on ebay after much comparing of prices - these look v cosy and nice and not too lumpy...
I also took some of my anti-sickness tablets which did the trick- have been feeling a bit nauseous.
Am off to iron- have sent ds upstairs to do singing practice...dh is trimming the tamarisk and clematis

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/09/2012 15:13
