thanks for all your suggestions.

had a letter today to say i have to go on some work focused scheme, would you believe this is after i told them my new diagnosis and i will be having on going chemo.

been called back to the hospital monday so i guess i will be starting treatment the same day.

amber...good luck for today.

jchocchip · 07/09/2012 14:01

car broken down :( sent to garage, don't know when it will be repaired ... Guess dd won't be off to college today after all! (plenty of time, enrolment is on Wednesday)

Ned, I'm not so achy at the moment, but I probably would be if I'd walked 3 miles...

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/09/2012 14:09

bah about car jane

amberlight · 07/09/2012 14:31

Pink, that's completely grrr re the work focus scheme.
Monday for hospital? Will be keeping everything crossed.

topsyturner · 07/09/2012 15:52

Pink get Macmillan to help you deal with the work scheme thingy .
I know that when I was on chemo I wasn't allowed to be classed as looking for work by the government .
And I'm sure , that in your situation you can't be made to do the scheme .
But Macmillan will set them straight for you .

Gracie hoping all is going well for you this afternoon .
Please let us know the outcome !

My sisters sister in law had her apt at the breast clinic yesterday . And thankfully her lump is scar tissue , so that's a weight of her (and ours) mind !

jchocchip · 07/09/2012 16:43

yay for your sister's sil, topsy , phew.

dh making me a Brew hire car booked for tomorrow lunchtime...

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/09/2012 18:18

hooray for topsy's sil's sil !! and for hire car jane
Friend of mine's eldest dd is off up to university in Edinburgh today, so she's feeling very wibbly - such a long way, but cracking art school.

jchocchip · 07/09/2012 18:31

Yes, it seems like dd2s friends are being scattered to the four winds, but at least they have really easy ways of keeping in touch. Dd1 has been instructed to help the cat skype...

graciesmall09 · 07/09/2012 18:55

pink glad you don't have too long to wait for appointment but grr re; work. Very insensitive of them.

Fantastic news about your SIL sis topsy such a relief.

Glad your appointment is through mas will be thinking of you on Tuesday.

That is a shame about your car jchoc hope it isn't too costly.

Well spoke to onc about lump. He had a feel and said he could feel it too. He said that given the time scale and fact I am still on chemo it shouldn't be sinister but he wants me to see the surgeon for further investigation. Appointment is Tuesday night Sad. So in full panic mode now as I thought he would just say it was scar tissue. He also wants me to mention my backside problem as he said it is a very common side effect of chemo and I may need a botox injection to my nether regions Blush. When I was diagnosed with cancer I should have been warned that I would have absolutely no dignity left.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/09/2012 20:34

might very well be scar tissue gracie but they'll want to be sure - I think all dignity is well and truly lost with a cancer dx.

Gigondas · 08/09/2012 06:57

pink echo the others on Macmillan advice- cancer gives you various protected rights.

gracie sorry you didn't get total comfort but at least not long to wait. Did onc mention a seroma? It is when gap fills with liquid and is very common (I had a big one and it felt like a lump).

jane enjoy today in car.

amberhow you doing after your wobble? Hope you have some lovely weekend plans.

Scan went ok in that didn't butcher my arm and I was only moderately nervous (bless dh for coming with me).

Enjoying the sun today although bit tired as mini gig up at 3 againHmm

pink I am certain that if you are on that new employment support allowance thingy on chemo it specifically stops you having to look for work. You are in the 'support group' of people automatically:

from Directgov
There are two groups within the main phase:
Work-Related Activity Group
If you are placed in the Work-Related Activity Group, you will be expected to take part in work-focused interviews with your personal adviser. You will get support to help you prepare for suitable work.
In return, you will receive a work-related activity component in addition to your basic rate.
Customers are not required to attend the Work-Focused Interview (WFI) until it?s been confirmed that they?ve been placed in the Work-Related Activity Group.
Support Group
If your illness or disability has a severe effect on your ability to work, you won't be expected to work. But, you can work on a voluntary basis if you want to.
You will receive a support component in addition to your basic rate.

THEY HAVE MADE A MISTAKE!

I checked this out for me because I go onto half pay at end of October and am getting really worried about money.

HTH

gracie sorry you still have to wait, good luck and vibes.

jchoc - bloody cars, eh! and just to cheer you up, when we skype big stepd our dog goes bananas looking for her everywhere, little cow whistles at him too! {grin]

amber hugs

topsyturner · 08/09/2012 10:42

Amber hope you are ok post wobble ?

Gracie will be keeping everything crossed for you for Tuesday .
I say scar tissue too . My boob that I had the reduction on is extremely lumpy now . And the surgeon says it is all scar tissue .

Today's plans are horse riding for DD at 1.30 . And a small Tesco shop , wish we had a Waitrose !

Anyone else up to anything as exciting as me ?
Grin

Gigondas · 08/09/2012 10:47

I don't think I can Match that. Probably going into town for thames river festival. Am enjoying bagel and peanut butter while big gig at swimming and lamenting the day when chemo stops so I have to take her

OP posts:
amberlight · 08/09/2012 17:53

I'm not v OK after the wobble. I seem to be in full blown Doom, though am putting a brilliant face on it at the moment. DH wants me to apply myself 100% to work and marketing and setting up events etc...and yes, it's really important because it's our own business. But my 1 yr checkup is Thurs and i wanted to leave the main marketing stuff till after that, when I know if I'm OK or not. ATM I have a brain full of urk. Just the usual 'what if the tiny bit of herceptin I had wasn't enough' and 'is that really lots of scar tissue or not...' etc. And DS starts Uni on Sunday so that'll be a big change for all of us and I'm urk about whether it would be fair to tell him or not if (just if) I need more doing. Nothing any different to anyone else, but it's just hit me a bit hard.

graciesmall09 · 08/09/2012 18:18

amber hugs to you. Will be thinking of you on Thursday. I think we all have a wobble when hospital appointments are due.

Totally freaking out about Tuesday night. I can't keep my hands away from the lump. It is very hard and very large so trying to convince myself that it couldn't have grown by so much since March.

Well guess what - my mum has bought me a car! I picked it today and will hopefully get it next week. It isn't brand new, just new to me but it is gorgeous. At the moment I have to borrow mum's car when DH is at work and she wanted me to have one for travelling back and forward for radiotherapy. So after all the moaning I do I now feel guilty.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/09/2012 18:33

amber irksome and understandable- and the ds going to university is obviously a BIG thing too. Will be thinking of you lots, and gracie too. Hooray about the car- how exciting !

graciesmall09 · 08/09/2012 19:29

Meant to ask how quickly do bloods go back to normal. Onc told me my bloods on Tuesday showed neutrophils at 0.2. He seems to think they will recover in time for chemo on Wednesday but wondered if anyone else had same experience.

Gigondas · 08/09/2012 19:47

4-5 days usually - best predictor is how you feel. I feel shattered and achy when low on neutrophils. Usually best prediction of being normal is I don't need a nap to get through day.

Also usually they go low between about day 7-12 on 3 week cycle hence why know should be ok again.

Great news re car.

Massive sympathy to anyone wobbling. amber I think a year on is a massive mark. My mum reckoned it was worst -she said she lay in bed and cried as was
Convinced could feel lump. There is no denying that this is a shit disease as it messes with your head In the worst possible way. Also I know it's not related but ds dojng to uni must be a change (Albeit a nice one) on top of everything else.

mas am thinking of you and your appt next week and also Gracie. We can all
Hold hands together - also have my scan/test from last week (or should do ) when I go back in.

I am putting some chocolate refrigerator cake on fbs trolley to help.

I will also do an orange man hunt but may not be tonight. Between outing today and mini gig night waking I am done in.

I can offer a chubby cuddly giggling baby to anyone who needs hugs. Beware though- she dribbles Grin

OP posts:
graciesmall09 · 08/09/2012 20:33

Nothing like baby cuddles, everyone can form a queue behind me. Don't feel too bad gigs. This must have been the lowest my bloods have gone as he has never mentioned it before. Had a look in my file and my neutrophils pre-chemo last session was 1.9 so hopefully it will bounce back.

Sounds like lots of us have appointments/results next week. We will all hold hands together. Just poured a large Wine. Will pop rest of bottle on trolley for anyone needing some.

jchocchip · 08/09/2012 21:19

aargh, someone - and I'm pretty sure I know who - has stuck Union Jack flags over the euro symbol on the hire car's numberplates. What should I do? ignore them and deny all knowledge when I take it back, or try and peel them off? At Mum's she is in bed watching the proms...

graciesmall09 · 08/09/2012 21:45

jchoc If they would peel off without leaving a mark I would try to remove them. If not then say nothing. Hope you mum is keeping ok.

jchocchip · 09/09/2012 12:56

Afternoon all - popped to Homebase to get some free pansys to find they had all gone yesterday made do with violas and then got lots of reduced plants for 50p each. Shove them in Mums front border later, the lawn men hoe and like it clear so nothing stood a chance earlier, one allysum and one nasturtium are all that made it. Dashed into Waitrose for treats for dinner on way back. Lovely and sunny here... Hope you are all having a lazy Sunday afternoon.

overthemill · 09/09/2012 16:52

hi all, sorry been really dreadful last 2 days so no laptop time. So tired and can't stop sleeping, i'm guessing my blood counts are very low after wednesdays chemo bash. my bed is just so nviting

amber and gracie* - i am sorry you have to go through this on top of everythng else. And a kid going to uniis HUGE! this time last year i was a wreck with stepd about to go. It can be a good huge, but huge it is.

love to everyone ese, may not see me a gain for a day or so, who knows?!

graciesmall09 · 09/09/2012 17:25

otm hope you start to feel better soon. Take it easy and sleep when you need it.

One of our neighbours had a very loud party last night so didn't get to sleep until 3.30 am and then up at 8 am for church so feeling a bit sleepy today. I didn't really need the extra time to fret about Tuesday Sad. Looks like I have had a reaction to the plaster over my picc as my arm has now blistered. Will be glad to get it pulled out this week.

gigs is it chemo for you this week as well? will be thinking of you and your CT results.

Thinking of everyone else, quite quiet on here at the moment.
