Missed the 'off to', Gig the link to the disco doesn't work.. Confused

KurriKurri · 13/09/2012 18:30

Evening all

Went to yoga this morning then lunch with friend and we went for a walk in Thetford Forest in the afternoon, then pottered round Lidl trying not to buy any of their nice chocolatty things.

MAS - loads of good vibes for tomorrow, - annoying that they didn't do all your CT's in one go, -have they arranged a bone scan for you? (I ask because I had one at more or less the same time as my CT, - might be worth asking so they can chivvy an appointment up for you if you need one). I think everyone has covered the consultant questions - I can't thin of any others, but yes definitely ask about your spleen, - it may mean you are more vulnerable to infection (apart form the normal chemo vulnerability I mean).

Be clear what you want to know (and what you don't want to know) - you don't have to receive any info you don't want, and you are entitled to know everything you do. Ask about any treatments you have heard of and if they would be suitable, and what they involve. You know we're all rooting for you, and will be virtually holding your hand (and popping violet creams in your mouth Smile)

hugs for topsy and mopiness - waiting for results is always horrid xx

Gig - when are they releasing you? Sounds as if they are pleased with your progress which is good news.

Waving to Sparkle, Smee, gracie (yay for last chemo) amber (hooray for still being alive Grin) Sometimes, ned, jane, over, baskets and anyone else I've missed.

Shakey - welcome Smile - sorry your DSis is going through this worrying time, - I don't know the answer to your question I'm afraid - not too clued up on cysts. I can tell you that inverted nipple was one of the the first signs I had of my BC, - my tumour was directly underneath my nipple. I also had a sort of hardish dense area in my breast above the nipple at the top - not a lump just a largish area of hardness. But I would think it was possible that an inverted nipple could be caused by anything that distorts the shape of the breast, and a large cyst would do that. It's just a horrid waiting game I'm afraid, - her history of cysts is probably a good factor in favour of that being the problem this time, - I hope so, and hope everything goes well for her. Stick around so we can try to support during the waiting time Smile

I am noting down all these tips regarding blinds and supps etc. has anyone mentioned vit D3 (am sure someone has) - highly recommended by the onc. who runs the cancer support centre I go to, in highish doses.

Off to eat some supper, and do a jigsaw puzzle I bought in a charity shop today (Try not to be jealous of the wild and interesting life I lead Grin)

Sorry mega post again - will shut up now!

graciesmall09 · 13/09/2012 18:42

Oh just popping on quickly again as can't remember whether I actually wished mas luck for tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.

So many people seem to be having a rubbish time at the moment Sad

A Mars Bar on the NHS?? Whatever happened to custard creams and bourbons? Shock

smee · 13/09/2012 19:00

Topsy, am shamed by Gigs. I can't do those one word clever links. For mine you have to copy the whole thing, then paste it into your browser. If anyone can educate me how not to be a luddite I'd appreciate it...

Gigondas · 13/09/2012 19:25

I think you get nicer treats on chemo ward- some of the poor bastards are here for ages so it's anything to tempt them.

KurriKurri · 13/09/2012 19:43

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2012 19:52

sparkle baby pigs, how cute - but am not sure I'd be able to eat my own livestock. And raspberries, how lovely !

Baskets45 · 13/09/2012 19:52

Away from laptop a few hours and you fill the cyberspace with words!! I can't keep up but want to say -

Amber, so delighted your check up went well, and all the best for a celebratory weekend. Yay! And here's to lots of 'delinquent drinking' as I like to think of you lot and smee's philosophy (yikes, I'm turning into my mother, all calvanist and scottish).

And very best wishes to Mas for tomorrow. I've been thinking of you so much in last few days and hope it goes as wellas possible, the discussion and the scanning. your spleenlessness might affect how they plan any chemo. In theory there isa bigger infection risk and they might offer inpatient chemo - so they can keep a closer eye and give antibiotics more promptly (I've heard of this being done - though i'm sure there's an argument for being at home wielding your own thermometer and jsut getting in very quickly if necessary - and I do worry about hospitals being breeding grounds for bugs anyway. Shut your eyes, Gig and anyone else currently incarcerated, if you don't think about it you'll be fine. Woo, woo, wooo!). Definitely something to ask about though, mas.

Talking of woo, which this isn't at all, I've been taking a vit c and zinc supplement for most of the last few winters - and when i take it regularly, I do see a big difference in colds, frequency and severity, and I've not needed antibiotics for chest infection. I am asthmatic and had bad pneumonia 10 yrs ago, which leave me prone to chest infection. So i am convinced :-). I'd also been getting lazy about shutting my shutters at night, but since reading Amber's points about darkness and melatonin, I've resumed shutting. I think that with the magnesium is helping sleep. And I am sure is having some effect on immune system generally as these things are all linked. It seems vitamin D by day and melatonin by night have a good effect, amongst others things.

DS4, big lump that he is, is asking for hugs so must go and be maternal. Have I beaten Kurri in the long post stakes?! Kurri, I love your posts, hearing what you've been doing - all i've done today is made soup, eaten some chocolate (and soup!), been to Coop. AND I've read a novel this week, which is first for ages - my concentration span has been a bit shot of late. Denise Mina is great.

Bye for now, everyone. xxx

topsyturner · 13/09/2012 19:53

Oooooh , I've always wondered how to do that , and you are the first person to explain it to me in a way that makes sense !

Must wrestle laptop out of sons hands so I can try it out !

Gigondas · 13/09/2012 19:56

Couldn't agree more about hospital bugs and not being good baskets as I swear my infection arose from when line went in. Also zinc and vitamin c plus Manuka honey and propolis for immune system.

Sounds like a nice day ESP if you read your book Smile baskets

KurriKurri · 13/09/2012 20:02

Oh Baskets - I love Denise Mina - esp The Garnethill trilogy - Maureen is one of my favourite female protagonists in a book - love her!

topsy - get linking and I will mark your work Grin

smee · 13/09/2012 20:23

Ooh, ta Kurri. Internet rubber band seems a bit challenged, so will prove I can do it when the oomph comes back.

MAS, am glad it's a morning appointment. Costa Coffee sounds essential. Will have all things crossed and have fbs ready for you. xx

Baskets/ Kurri, have never read Denise Mina, but I love her whenever she's on tv. Will give it a whirl. Which book do you recommend?

jchocchip · 13/09/2012 20:26

Phew, back home and sat down. Finally. Back to work tomorrow for a rest, but will have to drive about a lot - hope it doesn't rain. Managed to make good time setting off at crack of dawn, and home in time to vacuum hire car. Our car has a new clutch, bank accounts depleted, good job I get paid on Tuesday.

Fluffy chick and piglets sound good, I've had a poor year, garden wise, but the strawberries I planted at Mums are doing well, and very decorative, tho I forgot to take a pic of the planter.

Daughter installed - hope they get on ok. My brother is there tonight too.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow, mas

Haven't got any donuts, topsy but did get some cheap mandeville chocolate - will bung some on the trolley.

Looking out for my mamo results which should be here soon, not a one stop clinic unfortunately so was told it would be 2 weeks before I got a letter. Two weeks is up tomorrow.

Baskets45 · 13/09/2012 20:59

I missed the pigs story earlier, just had to reread - it must be cos I've been veggie since teens, ha ha! and teens not yesterday - must be why I NEVER get asked if I'm pregnant before scans these days. I mean due to age not vegetarianism :-). I just like looking at little piglets, and try not to think too much how they'll end up! There used to be a pig farm near here - the piglets were rather cute. I used to find staff VERY casual about checking for possible pregnancy, but think it's all been tightened up now.

Re D Mina novels, the Garnethill trilogy was where I began. I got the first as a freebie and had to read the rest, as you do. I think Garnethill is the name of first one. The Paddy Meehan ones are good as well, set in a part of Glasgow I know quite well. She's got 3 trilogies, i think, and a couple of stand alone novels. The one I've jsut read is in the latest trilogy - main character is a woman DS Alex Morrow. She seems to like her strong female leads! Paddy M is a woman journalist. This latest one had me slightly freaked out as it refers quite alot to the knife culture and seedy areas of Glasgow and my first born son is there as a student, and another will follow next year probably. But, hay, that's the lot of mothers methinks. I used to think crime novels must be very scary and I think it was 1st D Mina which taught me otherwise - now read several Val McD, Karen campbell, Lin anderson is another Scottish one I like.

Jchoc, I hope you get results soon and they are good. Good luck vibes and all coming your way. Good luck vibes to topsy for Monday, also for a good and worry free weekend (though so normal in the circs to be a bit churned up over it). I can't begin to imagine what it is like with all that uncertainty.
