Hello i hope all you wonderfull ladies are doing well.
Up-date on my Aunt.
She should have had an op on thursday,to put a pin in her leg.But on the thursday morning she wasn't well, with a upset tummy. So they wouldn't do it. Still waiting to be told when will happen now. They don't want to start chemo till she has had the pin.It was planned to start on the 20th but not sure what will happen now.
I'm really worried about my Uncle too. He's working 6-6 mon-friday and going to the hospital every evening. But he can't afford to work less hours.
I just wish the doctors would tell us what the plan of treatment is going to be.We still don't now if they can fully treat this breast cancer or if its spread.Sad

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 20:25

Sorry to hear about your aunt and that still waiting to have a treatment plan. It must be very hard for your uncle but does he find working helpful? For some (like my dh) it was helpful.

This is worst time when you are waiting for dx but even if cancer has spread , there is usually something (quite a lot) that can be done to control and manage the cancer. So I would wait and see what treatment plan is (I have a particular hatred of phrase "nothing else can be done" as whilst it may not be curable, there is a lot that can be done to manage pain and side effects).

graciesmall09 · 14/08/2012 20:27

Howards Way that wasn't yesterday or the day before Grin

flyingup Thinking of your aunt and the family. The waiting around is the worst thing. Hope she has her op soon.

Really enjoying Great Bake. It is putting me in the notion of baking again. would love one of those fab mixers but they are two fortunes.

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 20:30

Oh it's aged well gracie Grin

I have an aversion to alcohol in cakes as opposed to alcohol with cakes so not liking rum baba.

I have a poncey mixer but it weighs a ton and is a pain to clean (Xmas gift from dh) so often use hand mixer I bought in woolworths. Does that help cure your Envy?

amberlight · 14/08/2012 20:40

KK, I am indeed that crazywoman who was fairly ok on chemo, and was indeed an exception. Grin But there again, I was flattened by radiotherapy palaver and herceptin instead.

It's sunny and warm oop North. Enjoying it thoroughly.

I have no mixer of any sort. No wonder my cooking is awful.

Wine available.

KurriKurri · 14/08/2012 21:13

amber -you are not crazyfolk at all, you did amazingly - but you are a hard woman to keep down - chemo didn't stand a chance against your determination Grin

flyingunderpants - sorry that your aunt is still waiting for a complete DX and treatment plan. I hope they sort something out for her soon.

Gig would love the DVD's - I will initiate DD into the magic that is Howard's Way Grin

gracie - are you suggesting I am old HmmGrin Its good the nurse doesn't think your line is blocked - fingers crossed for the oozing to stop now it's been redressed.

I've got a hand electric mixer, - but I actually quite like mixing with a wooden spoon - it's a satisfying channel for pent up aggro Grin

Sue always makes me laugh 'first cake that can be seen from space' Grin

That tomato cake looked a bit Envy

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/08/2012 22:14

Am so excited by GBBO - I love everything about it ! I shall have ds begging me to make bagels next week as they're doing those and it looks like chollah too, which is my speciality ! Love sue (and Mel)
We gave my dad the Howard's Way boxed set for his birthday- they watched at least 2 episodes a day and have now moved on to the boxed set of Dallas...
love to all x

smee · 15/08/2012 00:21

Am scattering Ripples on the trolley for all.

Really great to hear you're eating again overthemill. Bet that's a massive relief. Maybe for the next cycle they can sort you so it's not so grim. Sounds like you're in with a chance at least. Smile

flying the waiting is definitely the worst part, though your Aunt seems to have been waiting for a heck of a long time. Your poor Uncle having to work so hard too. Must be v.tough. Sad

Gracie, you've been so unlucky with your Picc line. I've never heard of one being so irksome. Sounds v.stressful not to mention sore.

Amber are you running up more hills tomorrow? Spotted you on fb climbing castles Shock

Gig, Wallace Collection for a meet up sounds good. Do you think their refined tastes could cope with us? Grin

I have never watched GBBO. might have to give it a whirl. I didn't realise it was Sue P. Do like her. Waving to all from a lumpy tiny bed in Birmingham. Wishing you all zzz x

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/08/2012 07:36

did you watch it smee ? love Sue Perkins too...

SparkleRainbow · 15/08/2012 09:27

Not really here, as really am cleaning my filthy house and amuse 3 dc.... Wink just flying through to say all is fine in sparkle household, just trying to enjoy the summer hols with the dc, juggle hospital appts etc You are all always in my thoughts.

Will scatter some giant choccie buttons on FBS trolley as I dash off again. xx

graciesmall09 · 15/08/2012 10:11

I would never, ever say you are old kurri Grin.

Good old hand mixer in this house - mum actually bought me it when I was doing O Level Home Economics so it has served me well. Wooden spoon kurri I'm exhausted at the thought.

smee hope you slept well in your lumpy bed.

Fear I'm going to be glued to GBBO. DD has already made me promise to bake this afternoon so hopefully some girlie cupcakes for the fbs later today. Boys are away to a cross community summer scheme for the next few days. DS2 couldn't wait, DS1 less so, it may be the fact they will be cleaning graffiti, helping at a pensioners' lunch and washing cars/cutting grass. DS1 is a lazy sod at times.

Waves to sparkles glad you are enjoying time with dc.

gigs any nice plans today? Baking and a few errands for me.

Sometimesiwonder · 15/08/2012 10:29

Hello all

KurriKurri · 15/08/2012 11:11

Anyone want to come and clean my house for me? anyone? anyone at all??? - no, - thought not Sad looks like I'll have to do it then, you lazy lot. Grin

Ooh ripples (sits down for a ripple and Brew break)

hello sparkle - lovely to see you, hope you are managing to enjoy the hols. - how is DS atm?

love and waves to all xx

Baskets45 · 15/08/2012 14:53

Hello all! I'd never heard of the Wallace Collection despite thinking I know London quite well . I googled it and think i need a trip to london .... A decent food mixer is on my wish list for when I leave home (it'sa mere fantasy when all those menboys annoy me) - so i can be utterly and solely responsible for its cleaning and won't break it by putting bread dough in with the weaker attachments. Meantime, I find a wooden spoon works well and rarely breaks. Though it does need washing.

Good to see Overthemill has nausea sorted. Nausea even without actual chucking up is so debilitating I find. So exhausting. I have that, fairly often, though a good nausea free day today. Yay!! (ps, I am interpoler as don't have cancer - I come here for the laughs and the cake. I have autoimmune liver disease, with flare up of as yet unknown magnitude at mo, and nausea is a part of my life, sadly)

Best wishes to all of you. Waves and hugs.

overthemill · 15/08/2012 15:14

baskets you seem very welcome!
hi to all and a quick question - what did you do about hair loss? wig, hat, scarves? and any recommendations for nice ones to get and where from? expecting hair loss (not yet) with my type of chemo and would like to have something ready.

Sometimesiwonder · 15/08/2012 15:40

I seem to remember Topsy was the headwear queen when it can to stylish scarves, I was very workaday with it all and just bought v practical ones that were guaranteed to stay put. Didn't wear my wig at all - hot, scratchy and far too much hair in it to look natural. But there are some fab ones about, Gig's got some nice ones, ask her.....

Baskets45 · 15/08/2012 16:02

Sorry, no idea what an 'interpoler' is! Maybe some kind of polisman from Glesga who works for interpol?! Interloper was what i meant, of course.

Something I recall from reading (and stowed away in the compartment of my brain marked 'interesting but not relevant to baskets')was that some people found scarves had too much fabric and were too cumbersome( and that ned's little boy wanted to wear one to school. A great show of filial solidarity methinks!!) There was talk of Buffs a few months ago - and a huge array of such head coverings on the Buffs website (sorry, I am dinosaur and don't do linkies). Also a line in wearing funky and dangly earrings and changing one's image for good. I'm sure others will send you some links to useful websites and give more opinions shortly. Some of them are very dishy.

Now I must iron and generally sort clothing. I decided some years ago to iron only for special occasions - going to a wedding on Saturday so sucha time has come - and having a rare energetic day so must use time usefully.

KurriKurri · 15/08/2012 16:12

Hi Baskets - lovely to see you, - I rather like your 'when I leave home fantasy' Grin - and you are not an interloper (or interpoler), we've got you in our evil clutches now, you can never leave (cf Hotel California).

Overthemill - I never wore a wig (mainly because I somehow slipped through the net at the hospital and was never offered one, or any advice) so I wore mostly beanies turbans and scarves i used this site - its not a very dynamic website (plastic head models anyone???) but they do have lovely soft cotton hats and turbans, and soft is the way to go because your head can be quite sensitive. I also came across this site a while ago, - haven't bought anything from them, but looks as if they have funky colours if that is your kind of thing.

If you youtube chemo scarf tying tutorial or something like that, you can see some interesting ways to tie your scarves, to make you feel a bit more glam.

I have to say, I wasn't too bothered by hairloss, so often went 'nudehead', hats were mainly to keep out the cold for me (and your head does get quite cold). But I believe you can get some great wigs, I've never been able to tell if people are wearing a wig - they always look fab.

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/08/2012 18:39

waves to baskets Smile
Am back from hospital- saw chest consultant who showed me my xrays - there are various shadows on both sides. I'm having a CT scan next week and another blood test tomorrow- depending on results there may be a biopsy (eek) Wandered over to tell my dad and he says we should keep it from mum as she'll be even more distressed than she is aty the moment- one of her friends has terminal lung cancer, so she is particularly gloomy.

overthemill · 15/08/2012 18:52

mas I am so sorry, what worrying news. I hope they speed through the tests so you know the answer as soon as possible, waiting is so gruelling. hugs

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/08/2012 19:03

thanks overthemill - am fine- calm and fine.

KurriKurri · 15/08/2012 19:08

Oh MAS, - that is a worry, hopefully they are being extra cautious, and all will be well.

Massive hugs, We're all here for you while you wait for results - you know that don't you lovely? xxxx

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/08/2012 19:13

I know Smile xxx
