I think mas has a point about what age and particularly health issues do to your mood. That said it would be hard to tell if age had impacted mil as dh said was always a difficult woman Grin

Think cancer or any serious illness makes you reevaluate all sorts of stuff from teaspoon (that made me smile overthemill) to family. I have found made me closer to my mum and sis.

Right I will start those jobs... And not have another Brew

Afternoon all - just dashing in quickly, - have lots to do - tidying etc, - have friends coming over later in the week, but I've got things on everyday, and now I have to go to a meeting this evening - so feel as if I don't have much time.

Any suggestions for a nice vegetarian meal, that I can basically prepare the night before, so I can shove it in the oven when I get home at lunch time? Mind has gone blank - it's for smeone who is very much a carnivore, so needs to be reasonably mainstream (e.g. no tofu Grin) though she has said she's pretty much up for trying anything.

Sorry to go on about food when people's tastebuds are going haywire, - that is one of the horridest things on chemo I think, - everything tasted disgusting to me and I think it was at its worst when my WBCs were at their lowest. I sucked a lot of mint imperials and sherbet lemons (although the latter are a bit risky for sore mouths - so probably best to avoid)

MAS - will send your book back this week - sorry I've hogged it for so long, - but it is really good and gave me some real eye opening moments of insight, and also made me cry a lot, but not in a bad way, - I think I have definitely supressed an awful lot of grief for my brother and it's come out now with losing my Dad, - sad but good to understand - many thanks xx

Yes - to re-evaluation of life [arf@teaspoons] - I think I've definitely stopped sweating the small stuff, - and I regret the amount of energy I wasted when I was younger getting het up over nothing.

Love to all - must revert back to my pre olympic name Grin

Gigondas · 13/08/2012 13:09

Have couple of suggestions from my veggie days- mushroom and guinness Stew that is lovely with baked or mashed potato (but may be bit heavy) or a cheese and potato bake that is easy in the oven.
Probably have more so is there any veg you wanted to cook.

OP posts:
KurriotsOfFire · 13/08/2012 13:22

Both those sound lovely Gig - I'll serve with loads of side veg, so main dish doesn't have to have loads of veg. Mushroom and guinness stew sounds nice - she often picks something quite heavy when we are out, so that's not a problem. recipes much appreciated.

Can you drive Ok after Guinness stew? - alcohol will evaporate won't it?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/08/2012 15:08

kk really no rush for the book - will be at MILs anyway soon for a few days - I'm so pleased you found it helpful- I read it and kept thinking how many bells it rang with me -I'd never realised the significance of sibling bereavement.

Gigondas · 13/08/2012 15:16

Mushroom lentil and thyme casserole (serves 6)

KurriotsOfFire · 13/08/2012 15:31

Ooh that sounds good Gig, I like puy lentils. Will definitely have a go at that - I'll feel so much less hassled if I can make something the night before -because I'm out on Thurs. morning and will have to dash home for lunch. I can just stikc that casserole in the oven and we can sit outside sipping something refreshing Grin while it heats up.

Thanks MAS - Smile - hope you have a nice time at MIL's. I'm going up to Scotland next week for a couple of weeks so I can have a good nose round my DSIs's new house. She said 'come for as long as you like, - but take the hint when I'm fed up with you' Grin

KurriKurri · 14/08/2012 09:45

Good morning all Smile - I can't believe I'm the first to post today - that never happens. It must be because everyone is either on holiday or worn out from chemo!

What are all the plans for today? - anyone with treatment or appointments today?

I have another boring day of housework ahead of me.

Brew and toast and marmalade on the trolley, help yourselves.

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 10:38

Morning all and kurri - my blood test good (anaemia improving and white bloods ok) so am off to see
Therapist then Lunch and a museum.

Assuming everyone else is busy too as it just seems to be us chatting Wink

OP posts:
smee · 14/08/2012 10:42

No am here too - waving from the train on yet another triP to Cardiff. Fab weekend with our lovely friends then a mad dash to see my parents. Have left Ds with them, so will rush back there later, then home tomorrow.

How are you all? I do miss you when I can't be here. Smile

KurriKurri · 14/08/2012 10:53

yay for good blood tests Gig, - I hope it means you are feeling better in yourself, and not too tired. Hope your therapist session goes well, and you enjoy your afternoon out - which museum are you going to?

Smee - I can hardly see you for dust Grin - although train journeys are quite enjoyable if you have a good book (or are you having to work on the train?) Glad your weekend was fun Smile

I had a very odd spat on another thread last night - a poster got quite insulting, because my views (on psychics who I think are con artists) differed from hers - most odd. Oh well - must remember not to engage with paranormal people Grin

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 11:06

Smee you are a jet setter Wink

There are some odd types about on Those
Threads - was one about ghosts last week that descended into a right punch up. And am inclined to agree about mediums .

Off to Wallace collection- have never been so quite excited. Am holding off on national gallery as big gig wants to come too.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 14/08/2012 11:10

The Wallace Collection looks stunning - I am very Envy

Big Gig will love National Gallery - it was my big treat to go there as a child, on the rare occasions we went up to London Grin

overthemill · 14/08/2012 11:24

morning all - wallace collection - always wanted to go! Love teh NG and NPG - wonderful collections.

waiting for sister to pick me up to take to GP to get new nausea meds. called hospital and they recommended ondansetron. rceptionist wouldnt let me leave a message for kind GP so have to go in. annoying but probably understandable. if they wok will go to garden centre and have lunch in sun (which may consist of ginger beer!) Trouble is i dont feel i have concentration to drive myself anywhere! is that usual or am i being a wimp? (my big fear is wimping it)

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 12:33

No completely usual- I don't do anything now if in doubt. Hope you get meds and get some help. Did you have any after leaving hospital?

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 14/08/2012 13:10

Hi all

Sorry to not be about at the moment - frantic. But ondansetron is very, very good. Hope you get it, overthemill. My onc prescribed it as a matter of course, but they all vary Hmm....

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/08/2012 13:38

glad bloods ok gig -have fun at Wallace Collection...
Waving to rushing about smee !

smee · 14/08/2012 16:45

You're not being wimpy overthemill - impossible to do anything easily when you're feeling so sick. Am a bit Angry on your behalf at that receptionist- wouldn't have hurt her to get GP to call you back. Hope new drug works x

kurri in a fight with a bOnkers psychic?? Excellent Grin

Gigs greqt to hear bloods are getting ther. Enjoy Wallace Collection. Gorgeous place to spend an afternoon - seem to remember it has a v fancy cafe too. Smile

On train back to mum and dad's now - have celebrated with a Ripple. Got to eat my mother' cooking later which is always slightly other, so thought I should have a sustaining treat. Waving to mas and sometimes and everyone. Smile

smee · 14/08/2012 16:48

Apologies for weird spelling - teeny keyboard on phone and chocolate smeared fingers. Grin

graciesmall09 · 14/08/2012 19:24

Glad your bloods are improving gigs hopefully you feel much better now. Did you enjoy your day out?

overthemill Hope your new anti-sickness meds work. I have Ondansetron in my syringe driver along with Nozinan, Levomepromazine and Dex, I also have oral Emend and Lorazepam so there are plenty of others to try if these don't work. Pain I can do, sickness I can't so you have my sympathies.

kurri I tend to read and not post on other Mumsnet discussions. Some people on here scare the life out of me Grin.

Umm Ripple, haven't had one of those for years. smee you have started me craving one of those. Will have to buy some tomorrow.

Yay nurse re-dressed picc and said she will ring me tomorrow to see if it is still oozing but onc doesn't want me to have any more antibiotics if I can avoid them. She also managed to get blood (after a lot of deep breathing) so she reckons it is lying against a vessel wall and not actually blocked.

It really is quiet on here isn't it? Hope everyone ok. Waves to jchoc, sometimes, mas and anyone else lurking.

overthemill · 14/08/2012 19:39

I have eaten both lunch and dinner!!!! I can move around my home without clutching at random furniture and people and best of all, I don't have that horrid taste in my mouth! I may ask my GP to move in.

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 19:48

GrinGrin that is great! Its good when meds work.

I really Want a ripple now smee

Wallace collection was lovely (had nice mooch around old masters and also loved the jewellery and snuff box collection). And the cafe is indeed lovely. If we have a London meet up could do it there.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 14/08/2012 19:48

My picc was playing up yesterday on giving bloods- no idea why.

Only 12 minutes to great British bake off Wink

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 14/08/2012 19:54

So glad you are feeling more human Overthemill, - nausea is so debilitating, -stops you doing anything. You are not remotely a wimp, you will always come across crazyfolk who say they climbed Everest/built a replica of the Taj Mahal in matchsticks/set up an international Scout event/made the Pope a new dress while they were on chemo, they are liars the exception, most people feel fairly yuk.

I love GBBO (I am a total Sue Perkins groupie)- but it always makes me want to eat cake Grin

Gigondas · 14/08/2012 19:57

Yes Is it bad that the first thing I have been able to concentrate on is the box set of Howard's way? Blush

I love sue too
