Grrrr Ned , some kids are indeed little shits . But when they do it in front of their parents and the parent doesn't intervene , well I just despair !

Sympathies on the heartburn front Gig .
I fully recommend strawberry nesquick milkshakes .

Hi to old friends on here and hello to new folk. I'm just dropping in to say I still think about you all, and also to say I have managed to provide some guidance to managers at work on supporting any staff who have a cancer diagnosis. I have got a link to the excellent Macmillan materials re working with cancer, onto our own staff intranet and I've prepared guidance for HR colleagues so that we all support managers and staff consistently and (I hope ) with more insight into what it is like to be dealing with cancer.

We're a big organisation so I hope this will help a fair number of colleagues.

Just thought I'd let you know as I posted about this a couple of months ago.
Good luck and courage to those having treatment at the moment.

Hi sandripples -that is so good you got that done.

Havent got nesquik- do you think big gig chocolate milk Would help dr topsy

I am only glad that the biggest princess (whose mother is the one with all the tactless comments) is off to another school. Being cynical its not lost on me that may be keen to make friends as dh is a "big boss" in her division at work...

topsyturner · 18/07/2012 20:32

Sneaky Princess Mummy !
Should drop hints about departmental redundancies .
But then I'm evil ...

smee · 18/07/2012 20:32

Waves to sandripples. How lovely to see you. Smile

Ned, grr for that boy, but even bigger grr for his mum. Little Ned will learn how to deal with all that as he grows. I know my boy has worked it all out now, but used to get baffled by it too. Have fun tomorrow. I'd bet the kids will be incredibly pleased to see you. Smile

MAS, I like the converse too. Great colour. Smile

Hooray for Topsy and her bin bags. Not to mention her bottom. Smile I reckon hurling old bras out is both quite a moment and hugely cathartic. kind of like cutting your hair short before it drops out, though not as drastic obviously!

Gig, hope you're curled up and comfy on the sofa.

Speaking of sofas, did I tell you that after 2 years of arguing trying to decide, DH and I finally agreed on a sofa. It's coming soon. Am absurdly excited. Smile

topsyturner · 18/07/2012 20:32

And well done to you Sand
Mighty important project !

Gigondas · 18/07/2012 20:42

Ohh smee exciting. Yes on sofa watching bridget jones which is a step up as have been re reading lace all dayBlush

Does It count that I threw out my g strings in similar effort (although always loathed them so no suffering).

Gigondas · 18/07/2012 20:43

Better get some Choc milk, this may involve me stopping song pop.. Some odd choices of song they have on there topsy.

topsyturner · 18/07/2012 21:02

You are bloody quick though Gig !
I bow to your superior knowledge Grin

Gigondas · 18/07/2012 21:07

You have no idea how many games I have going and you get to learn the songs.

Should I be at all worried about bloke at work whose main skill seems to be his ability to identify the lambada in under 2 seconds? He has form as I have never seen anyone quite so upset as he was over the death of Whitney houston ...

topsyturner · 18/07/2012 21:12

Is it secret confession time ?
Cos I have 13 games of words with friends going on at the moment , with just ONE person !

Gigondas · 18/07/2012 21:23

Grin I abandoned that as dh kept winning

Gigondas · 18/07/2012 21:31

One of songs when I was playing reminded me of one of my favourite stories about your part of world topsy and gracie

topsyturner · 18/07/2012 21:49

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/07/2012 22:25

I bought 2 bras today from BHS and should really throw out uncomfortable ones - in fact I did take a loads to Oxfam when they were collecting them. Why do we hang on to these things ?

topsyturner · 18/07/2012 22:36

Smee 2 years to argue choose a sofa ? Puts my 7 months to pick a tap to shame Grin

I know Mas I had bras in there that haven't fitted for 10 years !!!
My underwear drawers were truly shameful Blush

Sometimesiwonder · 19/07/2012 09:32

Hiya to SR Bloody well done!

Oh, all this talk of chucking stuff out is going to make me feel the need to do it too, I know it. I reckon I could give topsy a run for her money with all the shit lovely things I have to get rid of. Maybe this weekend......

A new sofa does sound exciting, Smee!

Ned - huge sympathies over the 'cool' boy from me, too. I think your analysis is right: it is hard to watch parents allowing such crap behaviour, I am completely Angry on your ds's behalf. I think a lot of kids are behaving a bit badly at the moment because of endofterm-itis - no excuse though.

Just got dd's class photo: it is a nice one of most of them - but, given our track record with the kid, I hope you'll forgive me when I say that the school bully looks like a complete psycopath in it. I'd be terrified to be around her as well Grin

topsyturner · 19/07/2012 10:00

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh !
Apparently it's time to get up .

smee · 19/07/2012 10:25

Hands Topsy, a huge mug Brew

Sometimes, you should draw horns on little-thug. Grin

SR, forgot to ask, but what feedback did you get? Hopefully really positive, rather than file it away.

New sofa might have to go back. Mini rant alert, but I have just had an honest chat with both SENCO and Deputy Head at DS's school about Dyslexia testing. They're all quite sure he is dyslexic, all agree too that he should be assessed. After lots of asking over the past week or so when that will happen, I bluntly asked today if it would be quicker for us to pay, to which they both instantly said yes. Apparently though they have to wait until a slot comes available with the LA Ed Psych and that can be a term or more. They think (as do we) that DS needs help asap if his confidence isn't to slip. They both said if it was their child, they'd pay to get it done asap. They were hugely apologetic, and it's not their fault, but still, that's £500 !!! Waah...

topsyturner · 19/07/2012 10:32

Flips sake Smee that's awful !
If I were you I would find out name of educational physiologist who performs dyslexia testing for your authority , and bombard them with emails and phone calls to get DC tested on the nhs where it should bloody well happen !!!

It's a crying shame , but it's true that sometimes the loudest moaners get the best results !

But I'm still Angry on your behalf !

And the worst thing is , you will probably find out that the person you pay privately for his assessment is probably the one who would be doing it on the nhs !

Oh and another thing , not sure how it works over there . But over here a lot of the education departments won't accept a private assessment of dyslexia for statementing needs anyway !

Sometimesiwonder · 19/07/2012 10:34

Waah indeed! Sad

I have no direct experience of this, and it does seem massively unfair, but sounds worth paying for. DH's niece just flew ahead as soon as she got her dyslexia recognised, and a plan in place to help. Smile Devastating news on the soft furnishings front, though Sad

Sometimesiwonder · 19/07/2012 10:51

Wiser words from Topsy!

smee · 19/07/2012 10:56

Topsy, I've tried to get their name, but failed! I like your style though. Grin Bloody annoying, but have been expecting it. I just feel so sorry for the kids whose parents aren't pushy or haven't got the cash. The SENCO told me there's a year 5 boy, who she's been trying to get assessed for the past year, and it finally got done last week. She genuinely feels awful about it, but says there's little they can do other than keep calling and pushing.

Even more annoying is her admission that they have no specialised help for dyslexics in the school, so even if he is diagnosed, they won't have anyone really qualified to help. Grr and double grrr.. I predict we're going to have to find a tutor elsewhere to get him through.

Still, enough of the whinging. Can you please all send your most positive thoughts for a tiny new born. Born last night in the early hours, but my poor friend's placenta ruptured during delivery, and the baby swallowed all sorts. She potentially has brain damage. Puts Dyslexia anxting into perspective. Sad

topsyturner · 19/07/2012 10:59

Positive thoughts to the new tiny baby +++
