Ooh - yummy menu ned - I'll have the soup, then the veggie and pearled spelt pie, then the limoncello cheesecake brulee Grin

How nice of your Dh's cousin to treat you - have a lovely time Smile

You might well be starting to get a bit of fuzz back - once the chemo stops it does return reasonable quickly (obviously its pretty short for a while!)
I think Ds in the bath is fine for a while yet - he's only little Smile

gracie - that's some cleaning you've done - sit down and have a Brew fro goodness sake! Glad the film was good yesterday, - haven't been to a film for ages - the problem is finding something that won't make Dh fall asleep. he doesn't like anything with 'too many conversations' in it HmmGrin

MAS - hope you had a good day in London, lovely to meet up with old friends.

Mum seemed perkier today when I phoned, says her leg is a bit better. She had a trial day at the day centre last week, and is going to go on Friday's from now on, they've got one of those walk in baths or a shower with a seat in it she can use, and someone will wash her hair for her. And she gets a nice cooked meal - she seems to be really looking forward to going - just to get out of the house and meet some people to chat with.

very humid again here today - the only cool room is my bedroom - good excuse to loll about on the bed!

I've got a hair appointment on tuesday, - I was going to have it coloured, but wondered if that was wise given that I've just had shingles on my head and face, - not sure whether I should or not.

NedSchneebly · 30/06/2012 17:50

Happy to take orders - I have a very spacious handbag Smile

NedSchneebly · 30/06/2012 17:56

kurri that sounds very positive about your mum, then? Glad she's having a positive experience at the day centre. Definitely good for her to be looking forward to going. Excellent news that her leg pain is easing.

MAS hope you and T have had a nice day x x

gracie Blimey, that's some cleaning! I should put your feet up with a naughty snack Smile will bring you back some ice cream!

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/06/2012 21:37

ooh hope you're having a lovely supper ned - am sure ds can share baths for a while yet -he's only wee.
Lovely treat from your cousin too !
kk am glad your mum is looking forward to going to day centre- sounds good and positive.
We had a lovely day out- I always feel very relaxed with these 2 friends- we went to the Zizzi's in Chiswick and then had coffee in Maison Blanc. Nice easy drive there and back- but shocked at cost of bus fares to Chiswick and back- over £8 !!

Am slightly worried by T's cough but dh says it sounds looser.

graciesmall09 · 30/06/2012 22:02

mas glad you had a good day in London with T. £8 is pretty steep was it a long journey? Hope T's cough improves. Sometimes coughs take ages to go, especially in summer.

kurri that sounds great about your mum and the day centre. Hopefully she will enjoy it when she goes.

ned aw DS is only small, I can't see anything wrong with baths together. Enjoy it while you can.

Can't remember (blame the chemo) who recommended the tomato and mozzarella tart but I made it together and it was gorgeous. Really enjoyed it.

graciesmall09 · 30/06/2012 22:03

Obviously that should read today and not together Blush

Baskets45 · 30/06/2012 22:10

Mas, these annoying but innocent coughs can hang about for weeks, but if you're worried you should get the lad checked over. Agree about bus fares esp in thon London place.

Glad to see kurri's mum picking up a bit, and good she will have day centre. Are you feeling better too n ow, missus? I see you mention shingles in apst tense. I hope that is behind you.

Ned - that supper looks yummy; and very kind of your cousin to treat you later. Thanks for sharing about your lad's problems - I like to think of a him as lovely 'wee ned' - in these parts, wee ned means a very specific type, a bit chavvy, I think in southern parlance. I know he's not thus, just me musing over words. IME boys will tell you when they've had enough of 'parental exposure' etc. Be rest assured, very few 16 year olds want to bathe with
their mammies! My lads now operate on double standards as they walk around bollocks free before anf after baths/showers, not all the time, but but all object to me in my undies. i just remind them they are seeing less than on a beach in France. I am outnumbered of course.

LJ's son has survived the school trip. Shame it was stressful, but good he kept at it - and got to shop!!

So sorry amber having work problems. grr!

Hope gig is doing okay and keeping the neutropenia at bay. I think films and rest sound good. And cuddles with DDs. Ignore all tosh about 'yummy mummies'. tsk, some ppl open mouths without engaging brain.

Gracie - very impressed at your cleaning pursuits. All i've cleaned recently is screen of laptop. And that's still smudgy.

Best wishes to all of you. Reading every day. Just not much to say.

xxx

Baskets45 · 30/06/2012 22:18

I meant to say, i ma really enjoying The Bridge. Thanks to Topsy and KK for recommending. I got DVD from Amazon, v expensive but worth it IMO. DS1 has seen some too, in his student flat, and very much enjoyed. About to start epi 3. Thank goodness I cleaned lappy's screen!! My Swedish and Danish are improving by the night, just not sure which is which. And these things matter, as we know .....

KurriKurri · 30/06/2012 22:30

Ooh glad you are enjoying the Bridge Baskets - it's great isn't it? - I miss having something to watch on a saturday now its finished! (but there are rumours of a second series thank goodness)

We are watching Borgen now - although its on quite late on a Wed. and we keep forgetting to record, so having to catch up on iplayer. Its good though

Shingles is definitely on the way out now - my head is still prickly especially when I get hot, but I've got much more energy and don't feel ill any more.

gracie - it was Figgy's recipe for the tart - I'm going to make it next week - have bought some pastry - it sounded yummy.

Hope T's cough goes soon MAS - has he tried steaming? - that can sometimes loosen up the gunk.

Watching the tennis atm - rather exciting!

jchocchip · 30/06/2012 23:01

glad to hear shingles on way out kk . Busy day here, no posh food Envy. Went and joined the parkrun this morning, then afternoon treasure hunt and picnic dodging massive storm. Had a goodtime - children enjoyed the pedalos and the worst of the rain passed over quickly during the treasure hunt.
watched old episode of Doc Martin with several awesome lines: 'osteoporosis and sexual intercourse on kitchen tables ..." Trying to watch Lewis but lost plot...

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/06/2012 23:10

steaming might be a good idea kk - I have some Vick I could add to it....

KurriKurri · 30/06/2012 23:23

Oh - I used to love going on the pedalos as a child jane Smile glad you had a nice fun day.

Have you got an olbas oil or eucalyptus oil MAS? Vick will work too I should think but might take a while to dissolve!

Figgyroll · 01/07/2012 07:37

Morning all. Smile

Up since the crack of dawn. I'm so worried about DS1. Last year he had pain in one of his testicles, went to doctor and he said it was nothing to worry about but to start wearing proper pants rather than loose boxers, which he has been doing. The pain is back but he has found a lump now. He went to the out of hours doctor yesterday (on the advice of his gf) who examined him and said it was a cyst. How on earth can she tell that? So I've told him he must see our own doctor tomorrow to get it checked out. I hope he doesn't get sent away with a reassuring "you're too young for it to be cancer" because we all know that it a load of old tosh. Hopefully he will insist on having it properly checked out.

Sorry for the rant.

MAS, I hope T's cough is on the wane. Your day out yesterday sounded fun.

Jane, yesterday sounds fun too, with the pedalos and a treasure hunt. Smile

Hooray for the disappearing shinglies, KK. Glad your mum is feeling a bit perkier too.

Ned, love the look of that menu, hope you enjoyed yourself. Enjoy those baths with your DS while you can, he will soon tell you when he doesn't want to.

Gracie, glad you enjoyed the tart. Smile Slow down with the cleaning - you'll wear yourself out.

Hope you all have a sunny and dry Sunday xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/07/2012 09:42

figgy - it might be a varicose vein (I watched Embarrassing Bodies and a young man had this)- but ds must persist wih gp ) I think more supportive underwear helps ease the pressure,so maybe trunks ? Hope there is no more sinister explanation.
I have olbas and karvol, so will suggest to ds- can't find where I put the Vick.

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/07/2012 09:45

Figgy

topsyturner · 01/07/2012 10:42

Eeeek !
Mas you got post number 666 !
Grin

Hope T is feeling better soon . Think the steaming thing is a good idea . If you can breathe properly you feel so much better . I use those nose spray thingies (technical term obv)

Figgy definitely keep nagging at DS , it probably will turn out to be something unthreatening , but as you say , why take the risk ?

Gracie looking forward to our "date" Grin

DD seems to be having a ball at her weekend away by the sea .
She is back this evening .
I must admit to missing her more than I thought I would !
Although by lunch time tomorrow I know my ears will be bleeding with her constant stream of chatter !
Do all 9 year old girls talk so much ? Or is it just my DD ? Grin

No lunch at Granny's today as they only got back off their hols late last night .
So have got a lovely fat chicken from the butchers . Will rub it with butter and tarragon , and shove a lemon up its butt [winces] and roast it over a tray of chopped new potatoes and veggies .
Mmmm dribbling already ...
Leftovers will be making an appearance on the fbs trolley about 8pm .

What is everyone up to today ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/07/2012 12:01

Yikes about 666 Wink

Baskets45 · 01/07/2012 12:06

Oh, figgy, what a worry about your son and his lump. The thing is a high number of testicular lumps are 'just' cysts, rather similar proportion to breast lumps i think. But, owing to your own recent experience, that isn't reassuring I imagine. I think a doctor can tell a certain amount on examination, things like shape and mobility and general texture, but the lump is hanging about, so he should push to have it checked out again. So, yes, a trip to GP is good idea. Another thing, not exactly reassuring I know, is that one one category of testicular tumour IS commoner in young men. And he should mention to dr your history too. I know this isn't reassuring, but I'm working on the principle you are concerned anyway, and best to get these things properly checked out.

Baskets45 · 01/07/2012 12:29

Oops, an unintended pun above, i see. Sorry, i've not woken up properly yet. And I'm really sorry if post above has worried figgy more. It's hard to get these ideas over online. I'm always telling my boys to be 'aware', in much the same way us woman should be 'breast aware'. Which is probably the most tactless thing i could say here. Sorry, all.

I had a swedish/danish crime fest in the night, silly woman, got to episode 5 of The Bridge. Still enjoying. But feel I ought to do something else with my life - it is sunnyish here jsut now. A good prog on Radio Scotland on Sunday AM called Out of Doors has jsut finished - irony not lost on me that i lie about in bed, drinking coffee, hearing tales of these active outdoorsy types having fun (sometimes!), and I should be up and busy and active....

BTW very impressed by Jchoc's achievement re exercise and weight loss(and so very sorry to read about your friend/colleague - I hope the chemo gives her a good long time more). I need to look at that 'thingy' (get me with technical terms!) as I need more motivation again. My moods definitely going downhill since 'loss' of antidep a few months ago. Still okayish, and exercise does help, but not as good as before, alas. I need to get out this am to shuffle in the mud too.

Food. I think I'll adapt figgy's recipe and do something for veggies involving pastry. My lack of taste is weird (ha, ha!) but all these menboys seem keen to eat, and I can pack it away too, just ahve no appetite to think about it in advance. DH is working late again today, a common theme this week, and boy 3 cooked last night which was good. I can't use him again ....

KurriKurri · 01/07/2012 13:20

Figgy - so sorry you are worried about your DS, - as others say, it is very probably nothing to be concerned about, but with what you have been through, and just because you're a mum, you're bound to be worried. It's excellent that he and his gf are health aware and he is getting it thoroughly checked, but to you because I know you are feeling anxious xx

Baskets - I don't eat meat (not a proper veggie because I eat fish) but I thought when I try Figgy's tart I will replace the ham with basil leaves and a few black olives, - for general mediterranean feel.

Time spent watching The Bridge is not time wasted - think of it as a cultural exchange (By the way try The Killing if you want to see some funky Scandinavian knitwear!)

MAS - I had forgotten about karvol - haven't used that since I was a child - my mum used to cut open the little capsules and drip the contents onto my pillow if I was snuffly, or put it onto one of my dad's big cotton hankies for me to sniff Smile

Glad that DD is enjoying her seaside break topsy, and hope she's having goo weather.
We haven't had any rain here - just unbearably humid, I feel constantly clammy.

I spoke to soon about the Shingle - I was awake most of last night because the nerves in my head were firing off constantly, and painkillers didn't touch it Sad - still hurts a lot this morning. I think I'm going to cancel my hairdressers appointment - can't bear the idea of someone fiddling about with my head, it's too sensitive. Booooooooooooo to shingles, little bastards.

KurriKurri · 01/07/2012 13:22

Typo - city as usual, I don't wish goo weather on your DD topsy - that would be foul whatever it is! - I hope she has good weather.

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/07/2012 13:38

oh grrr about shingles kk Sad what a pain.
I love the smell of karvol-so comforting !

topsyturner · 01/07/2012 14:34

Maybe goo weather is related somehow to crime eggs ?
And that could only be a good thing kk
Grin

Sorry the tingles are still bothering you .

Just been to Tesco to buy wine for the mother of the child who has taken DD away as I think she will most definitely need some as a thank you .
Also bought a lovely smelly tiger loaf .

Gigondas · 01/07/2012 15:37

figgy sorry you are worried about your ds- but agree that getting it checked out a good idea.

baskets nice to hear from you- I like radios too As much the most bearable way to rest.

mas hope t better - viral coughs can take weeks to shift.

topsy big gig loves to talk So I feel your pain but will be nice to have her home.

Adding slow cooked pork that made for lunch - very yummy.

ned did I miss how your meal was?

OP posts:
NedSchneebly · 01/07/2012 16:10

Afternoon all Brew on if anyone interested, plus the moistest, most delicious chocolate cake, as made by lovely friend Grin

Meal was amazing thanks - had dressed crab for starters, lamb for main, cheese and then choc pudding. Mmmm. . .

Feel like worthwhile parent today - took DS swimming for the first time in 6 months, and signed him up for swimming lessons, starting tomorrow. He's beside himself with excitement!

figgy worrying about DS, but great that he's checking himself. Definitely the right thing to get properly checked. Sending you and him big hugs x x x

kurri sorry the buggering shingle has flaired up again. Take it easy, won't you? Sending you positive healing vibes x x

topsy crime eggs? Haven't had those in ages! Glad to hear dd having a nice time. I love the idea of J going away, but miss him loads when he does.

MAS glad that you have a nice time in chiswick. Sorry that T is still coughing. More fbs for him? And you too, obviously, to fortify you for your nursing role Smile

gig how are you doing, my love? Are you feeling OK? Pork sounds nice - in a bap with apple sauce. Yum!

Waves to baskets I think my DS is a wee cutie, if I do say so myself! Hope all OK with you x x
