Lime - my DS went a whole week at scout camp without washing - we had to practically cut him out of his clothes when he got home (he hadn't changed his clothes either I don't think) Grin - but none of them had washed so at least they all stunk together!

Is your DS good at asking for help, or telling people when he's tired or hungry?

Keep sending those lucky 13 vibes folks Grin

LimeJellyforBrains · 26/06/2012 14:55

No that's part of the problem KK - he often doesn't realise what's up himself, just struggles and gets upset and cranky Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 15:06

aw bless him.

Sometimesiwonder · 26/06/2012 15:09

He'll be fine without washing for 2 days - none of the others will either Smile

Dd's birthday was actually a whole long weekend of camping (not me, obviously Wink ) and frolics. She didn't wash once. She looked feral when she returned, but she was happy and bouncing with health. And it didn't take THAT long to chisel the dirt off.

Entirely natural to worry about him, but I'd tell him not to bother if I were you. My dd has another one night camp coming up, and I notice the 'things to take' list says 'toiletries (optional)' so we all know what kids are like Wink Just tell him to have fun and try not to sweat the small stuff, if he can.

oh, and you have a good time while he is gone. Wine

smee · 26/06/2012 15:28

Lime, I'd be stressed too and of course you should worry here. Is there a kind teacher you could drop an e-mail to? Would that put your mind at rest?

Kurri, how's the shingles today, you haven't said?

Sometimes am mighty impressed by how bold your DD is becoming. Seem to remember it wasn't long ago she wouldn't stay away with anyone apart from Grandma. You're giving me hope! Smile

No news from Snoopy for a while. If you're out there, drop in and let us know Snoop. Been thinking about you. x

Sometimesiwonder · 26/06/2012 16:45

yes, dd is getting quite intrepid. It wouldn't take much to knock her back though Wink

Don't give up hope. All of a sudden your ds will be off, and it'll be bittersweet.

Figgyroll · 26/06/2012 17:23

Hi all, mozzarella and tomato tart for the fbs, straight from the oven.

Belated happy birthday wishes to the littlies. It sounds like they've had smashing times and lots of gorgeous pressies.

KK, I know Friday 13th will be a lucky day for you. Are the shinglies going? I hope so.

I second what everyone's said about boys and hygiene. I sent DS2 to an adventure camp for 5 days a couple of years ago and the flannel was dry, the new toothpaste tube unopened and only one pair of pants had been worn. It didn't do any harm. Grin

MAS, cheeky co-author!!!! I think I'd agree to it though - like you, I don't like to rock the boat and upset people.

I need to have a quiet night - my back has been aching for a few days now. I'm hoping it was just down to too much gardening or too vigorous dog grooming. Either way it's wearing. At least the sunshine today has warmed me up.

Sending love to all.

Gigondas · 26/06/2012 17:25

Omg that sounds amazing - do you have a recipe?

There is plenty more of big gigs cake if anyone wants it (and will be more next week I suspect after her actual party).

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 26/06/2012 17:30

Gigs, do you mean my tart? Or have I missed someone else's dinner? It's dead easy and I will post it if you like.

Gigondas · 26/06/2012 18:21

Yes I meant your tart

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 18:47

yum to both cake and tart !

Figgyroll · 26/06/2012 18:58

It's a Jusrol puff pastry sheet Blush (from the chilled counter at the supermarket)
2 round mozzarellas
2 or 3 large tomatoes
a couple of slices of nice chunky ham
a couple of tablespoons of tomato puree
some basil to top

  • unroll the pastry onto a lined (with greaseproof paper) baking sheet
  • top with a couple of tablespoons of puree leaving about an inch all round
  • top with a row of sliced mozzarella, then a row of torn ham, a row of sliced tomato all leaning on each other. Repeat pattern.

Bake in a heated oven (200 degrees for a fan oven) for approx 20 minutes.

We had it with home made wedgies and a salad and everyone really enjoyed. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 22:59

mmm- sounds totally yum.

topsyturner · 27/06/2012 08:45

Morning All

Figgy that tart sounds delish , might give that a go .

Gracie yippee ! I shall bring you coffee up to perfusion services . How long does it normally take to get a picc line placed ?
I'll be there early anyway as DH will prob drop me off on his way through to work .

Nursey due a visit today . The good news is I haven't leaked through my dressings today . I have an apt with the surgeon tomorrow morning too .

Bank still not bloody well sorted . BBC news this morning said RBS and Nat West all back to normal now . But Ulster Bank ( who I am with) don't expect normal service to be resumed till Monday !
Guess who is going to have to shlepp out to a bank today then ?
I wouldn't mind but my nearest branch is at least a 1/2 hour walk away , and I really don't do walking distances very well .
Think I might have to wait till DH gets home from work and get him to drive me to one of the few branches that are open later .
Sigh , will have to start keeping my money under my mattress !

What are you all up to today ?

Gigondas · 27/06/2012 08:56

Picc line took about half an hour/40 mins I think to put in topsy.

That's a pain about the bank - they aren't covering themselves in glory sorting this? I must admit I just used bank of dh as am too lazy to walk to cash point.

Big gig got a bit of a cold but still very happy post birthday. I had disturbed night as sodding fire alarm broken so went off about 1am- dh tried to fix it (we think it's got dust in it) with a hairdryer.. Then I couldnt get comfy cos of sore shoulder sigh. So definitely adding large Brew to fbs. But aside from that feeling ok..

And am definitely going to give that tart a go.

Figgy, that does sound yum. DS made similar at school a few weeks ago. He came out all proud with it, then scoffed the lot on the way home so I didn't even get to try it.

Topsy, you need compensation - surely they have to give you something for all the hassle. I can feel a pair of shoes funded by the Ulster Bank coming your way.. Smile

Sports day today. Am off to watch all manner of daft races in a bit. Should be a giggle. Hope everyone's got sun. Gorgeous day here. Smile

Gigondas · 27/06/2012 10:17

The things big gig makes at nursery and brings home to "eat" would be a challenge for the biggest anti nausea drugs. Jam tart looked like something had died in her school bag

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 27/06/2012 11:04

That recipe sounds yummy figgy - I'll definitely give that a try.

That ready made puff pastry is brilliant (I've never made puff pastry in my life, and wouldn't know how to!) - in case anyone wants another recipe to try, I cook a load of veg - courgette, sweet potato, carrot, aubergine, leek etc - whatever you fancy really, put them in a rectangular dish and cover with a cheese sauce, then top with rolled out puff pastry. makes a lovely (if slightly calorific!) pie - big favourite chez Kurri, and vey quick and easy.

This bank business is awful - sorry for anyone affected, - how do they expect people to manage?

I slept well last night, (after no sleep for about four nights) because I found an old lorazepam and ate it greedily, and it worked - proper nights sleep at last.
Shingles are easing a bit, still tingle every so often, but not as bad as when I had it the first time, so I think the pills definitely helped, - I just feel tired all the time, but that's been a bit better over the last couple of days too.

£178 of repairs on our car to get it through it's MOT - not as bad as we;d expected as its an old car, and at least we have the car back now.

Love to all, - gracie and topsy enjoy your coffee when you meet up Smile

Smee - have fun at sports day, good that its sunny - are you running in the parents race? Grin - I used to like watching the competitive dads taking it very seriously!

waving to Gig and Big Gig - hope cold is better soon.

topsyturner · 27/06/2012 13:43

Oooooh Smee , shoe compensation ?
Now there's an idea that could take off !

DS finishes school today for summer .
DD finishes on Friday .
It's gonna be a long summer .
Grin

Gigondas · 27/06/2012 14:28

I thought mini gig was early as finishes next week.

I went for a walk.. I went to m and s so doughnuts, plain tortilla chips, scones for fbs. Also am planning on making figgys cheese and tomato tart tonight.

Ought to get up- I have quite selflessly let mini gig have a nap in bed next to me (it was only place she would settle honest !).

Aaaaaaaaargh !
Fecking banks !
About an hour ago I got an automated call from my banks fraud department asking me to call them .
So I did , they ran through various security questions and then said they had no reason on the computer as to why I was asked to call .

I thought about this a little , got worried , and got a friend to drive me to my nearest branch .

I withdrew all the cash that was in my account over the counter (which was a feat in itself as I had to prove that this money should be in there as banks computers still playing silly buggers) and told them about the phone call .

They freaked me out by saying that they would never ask the security questions that I was asked and gave me a phone number to call immediately .

Got straight home and on the phone . Where upon said security department asked me exactly the same security questions that the previous caller had !

Fraud department said I hadn't been logged for a call , but it wasn't surprising that I had been called given the state of the banks computers . And just to keep an eye on my bank account for the next few days .

I swear to God , it's all being kept under my mattress from now on !!!

Gigondas · 27/06/2012 15:45

That's unbelievable ( or would be if I hadn't had to redo my security questions with my bank cos bloke didn't ask the question properly hence I couldn't answer).

Cant blame you for shoving it under a mattress now. Or just blowing it all on fbs and booze Grin

OP posts:
topsyturner · 27/06/2012 15:58

Now that's a genius idea Gigs ! Grin
They also tried to tell me I didn't know my own date of birth .
Turns out they transposed 2 of the numbers on their computer !
Sigh ...

graciesmall09 · 27/06/2012 16:04

Thankfully I'm not with that bank topsy but DH is. He gets paid this week so hopefully it will be sorted by then. Looking forward to coffee. DH is dropping me off on way to work as well but if I can manage to borrow mum's car (typical she has a dr appointment same day) I will drop you home if you want. Need to speak nicely to mother.

figgy and kurri will add those 2 recipes to my list of must cook, they sound gorgeous.

Still no word from snoopy hope she is ok. Any word from (sorry cannot for the life of me remember the name) the girl who's MIL was having a mastectomy? If you are about thinking about you and hoping all has gone well.

Still feeling bleugh. DH and the boys are heading off to the Irish Open Golf so I will be on dog walking duties. Poor dog he will be suffering from cabin fever as I can't get my bum off the seat walk very far.

Glad to hear you are feeling not too bad gigs.

Gigondas · 27/06/2012 16:09

Can't remember her name either gracie . Also autumnsummers who had the lump on her throat - no word there.

It's really humid here which is most uncomfortable.

Oh and on the good news front , work called to say I had earned a bonus for
My efforts before mat Leave. More fbs money I think Grin
