Gracie are you at BCH on the 9th ? Cos I am there at 9.30 to get my picc line done too !
I feel a coffee is on the cards if you are ?

Sparkle your grovelling apology is accepted , but only as you went the extra mile with the homemade bread Grin

CT have decided that the best they can do is put me on the cancellation list (that they insist doesn't actually exist ?) and hope for a gap before the 8th , sigh !
Maybe I should swap with Gracie ?
She could have my 9.30 and I'll take her 8am ???

topsyturner · 26/06/2012 10:54

KK the 13th shall be an auspicious day !
I have decreed it especially for your theory test Grin

Gigondas · 26/06/2012 11:07

I can add some medicinal super chocolates big gig birthday cake. gracie I would imagine that your resistance can really run down after chemo ESP with the picc line naffing around to add to mix. And yes your glands can come up all over- remember mine coming up on my groin once.

Had nice chilled tea with Mate to plan big gig party next week and now dossing on computer til she comes home from nursery.

Nanny 2 for whoever asks does have a nice calming influence on kids and big gig eats better. Also seems to be effortlessly Mary poppins our house in an organised but not intrusive way.

Nanny 1 still sweet but could talk for her country.

smee · 26/06/2012 11:30

Ooh yes Gracie, that mouth thing is horrid. I remember even water tasting foul. Horrid. Hope it goes soon. Bacon sarnies sound like the way to go.

Kurri, it's a good day not a bad one! I passed my driving test on Friday 13th May, then deliberately got married on that day too, as it's my lucky day. Smile

Topsy, how's the wound today?? Still leaking? Hope not.

DS's teacher stopped me this morning to say they're starting to think he might be dyslexic. Am not surprised, but still a bit sad for him.

smee · 26/06/2012 11:32

Forgot to heap birthday cheer onto Mini Gig. Is she 4 then?? Think she must be. Am liking the sound of new nanny. Smile

Gigondas · 26/06/2012 11:40

She is 4. A big girl in her parlance.

The taste thing is horrid- has that in pregnancy and it's just yuck (ESP when it went on after - who knew I liked sweet white wine?).

Smee - what are they going to do about ds if they are right on their analysis?

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 11:42

hooray for new super nanny gig and like the sound of dolls house things-and lego of course-a great favourite of mine.
sorry about sore throat gracie - not much fun.
Friday 13th will be a very auspicious day and you will pass,I know it kk
I felt I had no choice really about the percentage -I didn't want to cause bad feelings and had in mind memories of horrid author bdeing so difficult. I emailed this author to say I'd changed it and she just mailed a curt thank you.
i will never make much money as am hopeless with it !

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 11:43

oh missed that about junior smee - but if he is then good to have a diagnosis because he can be helped and remember how amazingly creative he is !

smee · 26/06/2012 12:00

Not sure, Gig. He's baffling them a bit, as he's doing very well in lots of ways. He didn't read until he was 7, but now (just 8) he's a fluent reader and also great at maths so is top groups for everything. All means he hasn't 'got a huge problem, which is brilliant, but also means he's slid under their radar. tbh, I've been banging on about it all year to DH and have mentioned it a few times to teachers, who's all said they think he's fine. I think they've only really nailed it due to end of year assessments. He's still reversing letters/ numbers, can't spell and his handwriting's lousy. He can't copy anything either, which is the main thing which got me worried. His teacher's talking to the KS2 literacy co-ordinator to call a meeting. I haven't a clue what that means, but am glad they're on it. + DH is currently heating large helpings of humble pie. Grin

  • your DD being 4's lovely. I kind of liked it when DS got a bit more independent. Was tricky too though - with my DS the terrible twos didn't kick in but the furious fours were a heck of a ride. Smile

MAS, you're right - I'm not seriously worried. I have several lovely friends who are dyslexic and all do well and if he is, well it's just who he is. Still think it's a shame you had to reduce your fee. I am useless with money too, but I do think people who take advantage like that are incredible. Can't imagine you ever asking for similar. Sad

Sometimesiwonder · 26/06/2012 12:00

Friday 13th July shall be a very, very good day on which KK will finally be unleashed onto the roads unsupervised. I am quite sure of it.

MAS - I think you have been very nice about the percentage, and they have a more than a bit of a cheek to get you to lose out because the dd wants to muscle in on the act late - but given last year's shenanigans I can see why you felt you needed to. x

Smee - the recognition that dd has dyslexia is also a good thing. If it helps - dh has a niece who really struggled until she was officially labelled: then she got the help she needed, just flew ahead and has just got a very good 2:1.

Hope little gig had a very, very good birthday. It was dd's as well (9! Shock) - she spent the weekend at a water park, kayaking and rolling around in a zorb on the water. Came home like a very knackered but totally over-excited drowned rat Smile

LimeJellyforBrains · 26/06/2012 12:06

Smee - hugs to you, even when you suspect something about your child, it's still a shock when the school brings it up. When I saw the Nursery Staff's low assessment of DS2's gross/fine motor skills and social skills etc I was terribly upset even though I was also relieved that at last my own concerns were being taken seriously, and that the assessment would lead to positive action on his behalf. Your DS is obviously as bright as a shiny button and will be able to make the best of any extra help he gets, and he's so inventive, he will be good at making up his own strategies if he needs to Smile.

DS2 is off on a 2-night adventure camp with school tomorrow. I am suddenly having a crisis of anxiety about how he's going to cope. He has been very emotional and shouty the last few days, I think he is stressing about things like getting enough sleep, having showers and applying suncream Sad. Have asked to have a chat with his teacher later.

SparkleRainbow · 26/06/2012 12:11

I agree that Friday 13th July shall be a great day for Kurri.

Smee - sorry about the possible dx, of course it is better to know and then they can support him better in school, but still a bit Sad Coloured transparencies and using different coloured "inks" on white boards can be really helpful, as can l.earning to copy from text in front of him on the table rather than having to copy from the board. I have worked quite a lot with some dyslexic children, in my past teacher life, so if I can help just ask. An offical dx can be useful just from the pojnt of view of dc are given longer in offical tests to help to level the playing field, obviously not as relevant at the mo, but in the future very useful.

Sometimes - that sounds like an exciting day for dd! No wonder she was tired.

topsyturner · 26/06/2012 12:39

Lime sounds like a fab school trip . DS did something similar and loved it . (but came back with a completely dry wash bag !)

Smee having a diagnosis will help loads , as the teachers will be taught a better way of teaching Ds .

I am still having banking problems . No money since last Friday . Can't use debit cards in the shops . Phoned the helpline 5 mins ago and was told they don't know when the backlog will be cleared . I asked if it will be by the end of the week , they said they hope so but can't gaurentee it !!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh !!!!
Luckily we have a fridge and freezer full of food .
But I have an appointment with the surgeon on Thursday and would quite like some money for transport costs !
Luckily I won the lottery again on Saturday night (a whole tenner) so am keeping hold of that for emergencies Grin

smee · 26/06/2012 12:52

Blimey Topsy. Didn't realise that was all still hitting so hard. Shall we send food parcels?! Shock

Thanks to all for thoughts on DS. tbh I am actually quite relieved, as it's the first time anyone's agreed with me about it. His school are pretty good, so am cautiously optimistic they'll do the right things to help him. I have a v.dear friend staying tonight who's severely dyslexic. He was classified as mentally subnormal at school, yet ended up with a PhD and he's just got his dyslexic son through A levels, so I can ask for all manner of advice/ thought over wine later.

Sparkle, that's v.interesting about coloured inks, etc. Might well come back to you on all of that. How's DS doing now? Is he coping with end of term excitement? Hope he's pain free atm.

Lime, that trip sounds fun. Can imagine the stress levels though. V.hard to keep patient with them when they're like that. I'd bet he'll be fine once he's there though. There's a heck of a lot to be said for peer pressure.

Sometimes bet you're glad DD's birthday's over. Look forward to a far more restful weekend. What did you get her as a present?

Sometimesiwonder · 26/06/2012 13:04

Well, she is a bit spoiled for gifts, I think. We got her tickets to see Jessie J - but she knew about those owing to her reading a text from me to DH Hmm so we wanted to get her stuff to open. So she got one of those butterfly farm things where you hatch out your own butterflies and let them go, earrings (little silver butterfly studs - see a theme here?) a book or two, a board game, a kite, the list goes on Blush

best of all (from my point of view) I forgot the birthday cake, had to dash into a very nice deli nearby, and managed to acquire a really nice handmade cake that tasted divine

Sometimesiwonder · 26/06/2012 13:10

Topsy! Shock I hope your bank is going to be compensating you for this....

graciesmall09 · 26/06/2012 13:15

Oh topsy looks like coffee is on the cards then as I am indeed at BCH on 9th. We will be picc buddies. If they would swap our appointments and you could get your CT done as well I have no problems. Let me know.

Thanks for the bacon sarnie sparkles yum, yum.

Good luck for 13th kurri. You will be fine.

smee hugs to DS although it would be good to get a diagnosis as then he could get some help. I queried dyslexia with my middle son as he does struggle with transposing letters, etc. According to his teacher 'she wasn't allowed to say he was dyslexic'.

gigs glad nanny 2 is working out and proving a calming influence. That will make things a bit easier around the house.

Wow sometimes sounds like a fab birthday party for DD. Bet she had a ball.

OK must go and attempt some ironing or DH will think I have lounged about all day doing nothing

smee · 26/06/2012 13:18

Waving to Gracie. How are you feeling today? I think you're allowed to lounge about a bit given the circs.

Sometimes, nice presents, but even nicer cake. You kept that v.quiet from us greedy lot. Has it all gone?! Shock

Sometimesiwonder · 26/06/2012 13:27

Erm... yes

KurriKurri · 26/06/2012 13:30

Smee - my DS is dyslexic, - I once asked him if he would change it if he could, - after a bit of thought he said he wouldn't because he thought he'd stop being good at all the creative things he loves doing.

I have to admit it was almost a relief when he was DX, because we knew there was a problem, - but at first the school kept saying we were pushy parents, - because we had degrees we expected too much of him Hmm - he was 8 and couldn't read at all, but was clearly articulate and intelligent, but couldn't tell the time or tie his shoe laces. (He still can't tell the time, but manages with a digital watch)

The Dx was useful because he was allowed a scribe in his exams, and some of his GCSE's he was allowed to answer orally and have his answers recorded.

I have a good book on dyslexia, which I will happily send you if you want it, (don't want to overwhelm you when you are still finding out if he has dyslexia, but the offer stands if ever you want it Smile)

Sounds like little Sometimes had a great birthday -I'm Envy of her going on one of those zorb things Smile

And I'm sure Junior Lime will enjoy his trip once he gets there, and finds out where everything is and where he's going to sleep. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 13:38

my cousin and his father both dyslexic yet both managed to do pretty well in life-uncle was an army colonel and inventor of many things and cousin got a good degree and now designs very expensive bespoke kitchens ! I struggled with reading and writing for ages- did reversed letters too. Ds similarly slow, but then it all clicked for us both.
DD's birthday sounds a hoot sometimes - esp cake...
Hope ds2 has a terrific time on the trip lime - and hope he can relax and enjoy it. I worried similarly about ds in New York -'tis natural.
Am going to meditate and then have a lie down as feeling a bit crook- might perk me up- have pictures to do so can't really stop for long.

smee · 26/06/2012 13:52

Sometimes scoffed the cake?! Shock

Kurri, thanks for offering book. I'm not 100% he's dyslexic, but there's clearly something not quite joining up for him. Might take you up on it when I know more though. Sounds like you did a great job of steering DS through it all. My friend's DS has a scribe too and diagnosis really helped him, though his poor parents had to fight for things quite a lot along the way.

MAS, how's your cold today?? Is it any better?

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/06/2012 14:02

have pmmed you smee ! - am ok,though feeling like lying down ! achy and snuffly. Managed to scoff a big chocolate chip cookie though.

LimeJellyforBrains · 26/06/2012 14:43

Sometimes - DD's birthday sounded fantastic! My 2 love those hamster balls! Lovely presents and even better cake too! Shame we didn't get any....

KK - I predict the 13th will be a lucky day for you! Smile

Thanks for kind words re DS trip. Until the last few days have been saying to myself "Oh, he'll be fine" but have suddenly realised how much I do for him without thinking, how much 'prompting' he needs to get through any day, etc. For example, he can be boiling hot but not think to take off a layer without prompting. The same with being thirsty/drinking, weeing, etc. Because of his muscle probs etc he needs more food & sleep than NT kids, (uses more energy even just staying still) but on this trip will inevitably get less. We tried practising 'having a shower' on Sunday but I told him if it's too tricky and he doesn't know what to do, not to bother! He's not smelly yet, and it's only 2 nights. Apparently most boys kids come home with dry towels! Smile

LimeJellyforBrains · 26/06/2012 14:47

Sorry for whittling on about this! Thank you so much for bearing with me Thanks
