And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

Oops. Interesting about the temp control Berry. DD1 is always cold had never connected it to the meningitis, though

pumpkinsweetie · 10/06/2012 13:33

I hope things are improving, thinking of you ((hugs))Bear

Hope she doing better this morning x

Thinking of you and your dd x

Holds hand. Just for a bit of hope, my dd was admitted with meningitis when she was 9 month old. We was told to expect development delay and hearing loss. She was a little bit behind her peers for a while...fast forward 5 years and she is now a year in front of her peers academically. So there are good outlooks as well as the bad, it's just that we tend to hear the doom and gloom more.

elah11 · 10/06/2012 14:00

My dh had meningitis last July and I understand how scared you must feel Thankfully he is fine, with no lasting problems. My friends ds had meningitis 2 years ago and my neighbours child had it last Nov, all recovered well with no issues. I know its hard to look on the bright side when you are so worried but most people who have meningitis seem to recover well, its only the not so fortunate ones that we hear about and remember.

LollipopViolet · 10/06/2012 14:03

Hugs to you all, must be such a horrible time.

Will keep you all in my thoughts.

StopEatingThatMud · 10/06/2012 15:54

Thank you, thank you, thank you, you've made me cry but in a good way :)

B is....no different really. She's slept since we got here yesterday, tries to open her eyes and lift her arms up for a cuddle but she's just so weak. It's so horrible not being able to do anything but I know you're right and she's in the best place.

We just don't know how quickly we caught it, she started nursery at the end of may and has been coldy and not quite herself ever since. I booked an appointment last Thursday with the gp as she'd had a cough and on/off temperatures for 3 weeks, but because of the bank hols the earliest they could see her was this Friday. As it happened I went to work Thurs night and dp ended up ringing OOH as she just wasn't right. When we took her in they said it was "a virus" and recommended calpol etc. Saw our own gp Fri who said the same thing but to come back if she went downhill. Even when we came back to OOH yesterday and were sent up to the children's ward they only did a lumbar puncture as a precaution as she wasn't showing obvious signs of meningitis. Think even the doctors were surprised when the results came back!

I can't remember what else people asked so sorry if I've missed you and I'm rambling on so thanks if you're still reading! I will go back and have a proper read through when my brain feels a little less like candyfloss!

Your thoughts and prayers really do mean so much and all the positive stories really do help. Of course still be my perfect little monkey if she does have any lasting effects but you just can't help but worry for them can you?

Prayers for you and your little girl x

PissyDust · 10/06/2012 16:17

My goodness, bless the poor girl.

My DD caught septicaemia at 2 months old, it was awful and I hope you don't mind me saying so but she is now a bouncy and healthy 8 year old with no complications.

Please try and take care of yourself x

drummerswife · 10/06/2012 16:26

Thought I had posted on this thread this morning, obviously not.

Sending positive vibes for B.

Northernlurker · 10/06/2012 16:39

OP - sleep is the best thing for her just now. It is horrible when they're like that but it's how they let their bodies heal. I think they have caught it early from what you say.

I repeat - you have done a great job taking care of your little girl. When things go wrong with our children we all blame ourselves and think that we should have/could have done more. You can use up a lot of energy feeling guilty without cause. So it's really important that you keep saying to yourself that you did everything you could and you've taken good care of her because you have.

BuntyPenfold · 10/06/2012 16:40

I hope things are better soon. DH had meningitis and is sitting next to me in perfect health - I know you must be frantic, but hold on.
