And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

StopEatingThatMud · 21/06/2012 21:58

Evening all,

We were transferred back to our home hospital last night after addenbrookes decided not to keep us there until B finished her antibiotics.

We're back in our own room here which is lovely and so much more peaceful. I did get strangely lonely when B woke up at 4am, settled back to sleep easily and I was left wide awake with no one to talk to!

Todays been good, B has had her feed tube removed after keeping several bottles of milk down. She's also had a little food too, a few tiny bits of my sandwich at lunch, a yogurt and 5 or 6 mouthfuls of jacket potato with beans at dinner, so hopefully the feedings going in the right direction. We were heavily led by the dietician at addys, whereas here seems to be very much a 'give it a try' approach from the nurses so I hope we're doing the right thing!

B is still very reluctant to sit up and I'm not sure if its a confidence thing, a pain thing or if she genuinely is just struggling to do it as her muscles are so weak. She's also using her left side much much more than her right. She has her long line canula in her right arm which is bandaged so I'm hoping its just that that's stopping her moving it so much. She also hasn't made any attempt at talking/babbling/any sort of noise yet but hopefully that will come.

Aah we're so much further forward than we were 48 hours ago but I just can't help constantly worring about all these little things and hoping they're just temporary. I just want her back to her happy little self again now and its just so bloody unfair :(

V. pleased to hear B is grumpy, so much looking forward to proper strops!! Glad to hear of improvements!! xx

oricella · 21/06/2012 22:12

hey Mud, great to hear about the improvements; the eating is excellent. Are you being kept in quarantine as well? We were tested after coming back to our home hospital and not allowed around the ward until we had the all clear on any bugs - felt very strange. It's a funny time this stage - the acute stuff is over, but a kind of waiting game begins.. temporary can be a pretty stretchy concept and she'll probably need months rather than weeks to get over it all

Do ask if you are allowed to take her out for a wee bit - even if it's just a walk around the grounds tucked up in a buggy; it will do you a world of good and it's probably pretty interesting to B as well. Feel free to PM me if you think there's any way I could help & Big hug to you and B

NoComet · 21/06/2012 22:19

Glad Bs getting better.

Saying give it time won't make the wishing it was all over go away, nothing can. Thinking of you and hoping you don't have to stay in hospital too long.

Tikkabillajive · 21/06/2012 22:23

I haven't posted for a few days but have been checking your updates and thinking of little B. So great to hear the improvements. Hang in there and try not to worry too much, you are through the worst now, and when you look back over the thread and read how very sick she was just a few days ago it is little wonder that she is taking her time to get back to normal.

StopEatingThatMud · 21/06/2012 22:23

No quarantine for us thank goodness, I popped home and had some "proper" dinner tonight while DP stayed with B which was nice.

They've mentioned being allowed home for a couple of hours in the afternoon but they want her temperature to stop spiking up first, its still up around 38 at least once a day. Unfortunately the docs at addenbrookes said this could be a reaction to the antibiotics so it may not go down until they're finished on Monday, by which point we may be discharged if things go really well, so its all swings and roundabouts really.

Sorry, I'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight, I know there's people going through so much worse but do you know what, this is crap! I've gone and got myself a case of thrush for the first time ever (major overshare but I think I'm done with my dignity!) and good god its annoying! Got myself some canesten duo earlier so I bloody hope it starts working soon

TheSpokenNerd · 21/06/2012 22:36

Oh Mud I can't belive they're talking about letting her go home afternoons! That's seriously amazingly great.

You may be feeling down because you've got over one hurdle with managing to get home and the talk of letting DD home in afternoons? Like a relief has made you drop your guard a bit?

thrush DOES make you feel low too...see if you can get some natural yogurt too...insert or eat! Drink plenty of water aswell.

So happy to hear DD is doing so well. Smile

vigglewiggle · 21/06/2012 22:36

I was concerned about my dad after he left intensive care. Once he got out of bed (with major help) he would sit in a chair, slumped forwards, unable to lift his head and slurring his words to such an extent that I couldn't understand him on the phone. He walked out of hospital 2 weeks after he arrived and is now just as active as he was before.

She is clearly a little fighter, she is doing so well. Even small improvements are a step in the right direction. Smile

ExitPursuedByABear · 21/06/2012 22:46

So glad to hear B is on the mend. Her reluctance to use her right arm could well be because of the canula. I know when I have had them in for an extended period it can become very sore.

StopEatingThatMud · 21/06/2012 23:06

And I've just been covered in puke :(

Thanks guys, you're the one thing keeping me sane I think!

Wiggle that's so so encouraging and just what I needed to hear :)

Exit, if its anything like the femural line I saw them take out its bloody massive as well, probably up to her shoulder at least so it can't be too comfy I suppose.
