And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

Dearmud from what you said before it sounded as though your dd was really ill and might be still suffering the effects of her illness. Thoughts are with you.

doggiemumma · 19/06/2012 11:44

checking in - hope all is well xx

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 19/06/2012 12:31

Really happy to hear there are signs of improvement, addenbrookes is a great hospital (was there for a long time as a kid) so sure they'll give your DD the best care.

Still thinking of you all.

youarekidding · 19/06/2012 17:53

Evening all, just checking back in!

Sorry, the ward we're on now (out of PICU :) ) has terrible signal and next to no mobile internet whatsoever so I've barely been online the last couple of days.

B has been very grumpy the last couple of days, no more smiles yet! I think she's now well enough to realise she feels dreadful and would really quite like to go.home soon!

She's still not able to sit unsupported and is being fed high calorie milk via a nasal tube as efforts at bottle feeding have ended in a lot of chucking up and she's lost a lot of weight and was only small to start with.
That said, she's with it enough to now make attempts at pulling out her IV pic line and managed to roll herself over into her "proper" sleeping position on her front, sideways in the cot, complete with feet hanging out the bars before I left DP in charge of the nightwatch tonight and came back to our room to try and catch up on some rest, which made me smile :)

We're here at least until b has had 14 days of antibiotics, I'm not sure what day we're on now, 9 or 10 I think, but we'll see how things go from there I suppose!

So relieved to read your update - poor little mite but like you say at least she now has the energy for grumpiness. Hope you are bearing up/geting some rest xx

CointreauVersial · 19/06/2012 23:21

Brilliant, sounds more positive every day.

Bet you never expected to be pleased about having a grumpy DD, trying to pull out her IV! Must mean she's on the mend well and truly.

Hope you are all home very soon.

pushmepullyou · 19/06/2012 23:22

I'm so glad to hear she's making some positive progress Smile Sounds like she's turned a corner and is on the mend. I've had meningitis myself and it does leave you feeling rubbish for quite a while afterwards, it took me a while to get my strength back and I struggled with co-ordination and walking for a fair while afterwards (I was 17 at the time), but although it took me a few months to get there I don't have any lasting ill effects, so I don't think its necessarily too much of a worry if it takes her a little while to get back to 'normal'

hellymelly · 19/06/2012 23:41

thanks for the update-i keep checking the thread to see how she is doing, I'm so glad that she is now well enough to be on the ward, and to sleep her usual way. I hope you are getting as much rest as possible too, you must be exhausted.

NoComet · 19/06/2012 23:51

Grin at feet through bars, DD2 never slept neatly, unless she was in with us.

Grumpy is probably a good sign, it takes energy to be grumpy.

Hoping she keeps getting better and better.

Mud I have been looking for updates and willing B on - sorry, I haven't posted much as I haven't had much to say (and your story has really brought back some memories for me). So, so glad to hear that B is out of PICU and making small steps on the road to recovery. For my DS, recovery was quite a slow process with a good few set backs - not like when they have a normal virus and are just suddenly all better.

We were allowed home at the end of his anti-bs and when the doctors were happy that DS was clinically well. This was very different to being actually well in himself. For a good week or two he was grumpy, hard to feed, wanted to be held all of the time, didn't settle well to sleep etc etc. It was really, really hard work at a time when I felt emotionally drained and exhausted from lack of sleep. If you can at all, start planning now for getting home, and do everything you can to make it as easy as possible. It's like having a newborn (my DS was actually tiny, so we had only just come out of the newborn phase): accept all offers of help in the form of meals, shopping, cleaning, ironing etc so that you can focus your energy on your daughter and yourself.

I'll keep checking to see how she's doing. Wishing you both all the very best.

giraffesCantFitInThePalace · 19/06/2012 23:57

still thinking of you x

Thumbwitch · 19/06/2012 23:57

Thank you for the update - glad to hear she's starting to revert to normal behaviours! A good sign. I bet you all can't wait to get her out of the hospital - hopefully being at home will perk her up a little but it may frustrate her too, in that she won't be able to go back to "normal" straight away, she'll still need to convalesce.
Fingers crossed that she keeps just getting better and better now. x

Outnumbered4to1 · 20/06/2012 00:01

Good to hear your update mud - grumpy is definitely a good sign Smile

Keep fighting B!

TanteRose · 20/06/2012 05:01

thanks for the update, Mud

lets hope the next few days of ABs will do the trick Smile

worrywortisworrying · 20/06/2012 05:59

What a little superstar you have there mud. B has really been thru so much. I'm glad she is feeling a bit better, even if she is still grumpy... Will be lovely to hear of her first smile tho.

Take care of you too, mud there is every chance you are running on empty, fuelled by adrenalin and fear, and you too will need some r'n'r.

Wishing you both home soon x

Thank you for taking the time to update and so glad you are seeing her making steps to being herself again.

and like someone else said; do look after yourself too as when you get home it will be quite emotional for esp you reflect on the experience, it has been such a journey for both of you and really hope you are updating from home shortly.

motherwifeteacheretc · 20/06/2012 07:26

emotional for you, especially as

TheOneWithTheHair · 20/06/2012 07:45

Thanks for the up-date Mud. It all sounds so positive now. Grumpy is great!
