And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

Morning, glad that your dd seems to be improving, and that you're being looked after well.

minxthemanx · 12/06/2012 12:17

Mud, really pleased to hear your update, and yes, little kindnesses like the hot chocolate will see you through. Glad focussing on the "how jolly interesting this medical technology is" helped a bit - it detracts a little from the emotion. It def helped me. Keeping busy, too, - ask the nurses if you can help clean her eyes, face etc. I was constantly tidying up (not that there was much there), but couldn't bear just sitting. Chat to other parents - it's comforting to them and you.

You are doing really well. You'll be amazed at how much strength you suddenly have! Hope your lovely DD has a more settled day. xx

wandawings · 12/06/2012 12:38

Thinking of you and your family. Another success story for you from here too. Friend's little boy in bad way for a few days then suddenly demanding mcdonalds!

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2012 12:42

I hope you got a little sleep last night, and things are continuing to improve.

What lovely, caring nurses!

funnyperson · 12/06/2012 15:24

Still thinking of you, hope little B has continued to improve today x

StopEatingThatMud · 12/06/2012 22:59

Evening all,

Funny old day today, mostly a good one though. DD is a little more responsive, moving her head to focus on things, rather than just her eyes and making slightly diva-ish loud yawning noises when she's had enough of being disturbed!

They tried to get a longer line into her veins for her antibiotics today but failed. They will probably have to put her under anaesthetic to try again but because she's so little age/weight wise they're not sure if the anaesthetist here will be happy to do it, so she may have to go off to addenbrookes in Cambridge for the day to have it done.

Her canula has also just failed so she's not had her antibiotics yet tonight. The doctors have all rushed off to delivery so we're waiting for them to come back before it can be re-sited. She's an absolute bugger to get a needle into so I hope they manage to get it done quickly without upsetting her too much. This will be canula number 3!

CT came back fine, thank goodness and they've confirmed the blood cultures are back and it is pneumococcal, not sure on spelling sorry.

That's enough of a ramble for now I think. Thank you again for listening and your kind words. Fingers, toes and the rest crossed for a good day tomorrow!

Sounds like better news... thinking of you..

ToryLovell · 12/06/2012 23:04

Fingers and everything else crossed for you all

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 12/06/2012 23:04

Oh bless you for coming back....and bless little DD and her hard to get to veins. Sad

I am really glad she's responsive for you though...that must be such a relief!

SO good to hear the CT came back fine! Grin I hope they manage her canula with ease....all my positive thoughts to her and you. xxx

RachelHRD · 12/06/2012 23:09

Glad to hear she has been more responsive today and the CT came back clear.

DD was also difficult with canula's and needles - I recall one of the nurses saying that it's difficult when they are around that age because of their gorgeously chubby little arms and legs - makes it more difficult to get a line in! DD had to be taken over to the specialist unit to get a canula in once as they several people on the ward had tried with no luck. Bug hugs canula's are horrid - specially when they fail and it's distressing for them. My DD was fine with most procedures but woe betide anyone who tried to restrain her to put a line in!

Hope you have a peaceful night. At least they know now what they are dealing with and it does sound as if it was picked up quickly xxx

bonnieslilsister · 12/06/2012 23:10

So pleased things are better for your little dd xx

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/06/2012 23:10

Sending love and postive thoughts to you and your DD.

LemonMousse · 12/06/2012 23:13

Sounds much more positive Smile Hope you are managing to eat and get some sleep.

dikkertjedap · 12/06/2012 23:20

My thoughts are with you. Is your DH with you during the day/evening? You must feel exhausted. Are you up/awake most of the night or do you manage to sleep a little?

I hope they manage to get the canula in and I hope that if she has to be transferred that it goes smooth.

The times that my dc was severely ill in hospital I was awake both day and night (just had little catnaps), I was exhausted, utterly exhausted, but dc pulled through and cannot remember much about it (I can still remember everything, absolutely everything).

Lots of strength to you and your little one, hope she gets better soon.

Just de-lurking to let you know I'm thinking of you and B, and hoping you both have a comfortable night. So glad she's been more responsive today. What a fighter!

Rindercella · 12/06/2012 23:40

Just came across this thread. This must be the scariest thing in the world. I am so sorry your DD, you and your family have all been through this and I have everything crossed that your gorgeous DD continues to improve and gets better very, very soon.

livealoha · 13/06/2012 00:00

Sending white light and healing vibes to your little girl.
X

Buntingbunny · 13/06/2012 00:26

Thoughts and best wishes for a quiet night. x

StopEatingThatMud · 13/06/2012 00:51

So much for sleeping, its all quiet here and I'm wide awake, typical!

Canula's done and antibiotics are going in which is fab. However they took some blood whilst doing her canula and the lab called to say her red blood cell count is low so she'll need a transfusion in the morning. It sounds like its not too serious or she'd have to have it done tonight but still, its another thing to worry over :(

Those that asked about DP, he started a new job 2 weeks ago, typical eh? So he's having to be careful demanding time off etc. Luckily its a role doing night shifts and the way his shift patterns fallen tonight is the first night he's had to work. He's going to come straight here from work in the morning, stay a couple of hours, then go home for some sleep and pop back for a few hours in the afternoon before work.

We've asked family to stay away tomorrow, I feel like I need a day with no interruptions for visitors to try and get some rest. I know that's probably selfish but both my parents and MIL and SIL would probably camp out in the room with us if we offered! Nice to know we have the support there though I guess, I guess others would give anything to have it.

Dikkert, I think I'm a little like you and am going to struggle to sleep at night. I had a 2 hour catnap this afternoon and now it seems maybe I shouldn't of, as I'm wide awake!
