And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

Glad they managed to get the canula in! Is she sleeping ok now?

dikkertjedap · 13/06/2012 01:18

It is hard, so hard ... I remember it so well. The good news is the cannula is in, so she keeps getting the anti-biotics.

Will they do the blood transfusion where you are now or are they going to do it in Addenbrooke's?

How difficult both for you and your husband that he has just started a new job. Has he told his employer? We were in a similar situation at the time, and the new employer was actually very sympathetic, hope he encounters the same.

I don't know what to say about being awake all night, to me, it felt like that I had to wake over dc, to make sure all the machines were working etc, this was in part due to a very bad experience after birth where a key piece of equipment did not work and we had to literlly drag nurses over to check (and yes it was faulty).

It is hard, really hard, exhausting, the hope and despair, swinging from one to the other and back. For me, the only real good thing is that it is unlikely that your dd will remember any of this when older, you will, no doubt, but she won't.

Hope she starts improving soon. Lots of strength to you, your dh and your dd.

mumofjust1 · 13/06/2012 02:06

So glad that the ct was clear and the canula's redone!

Your dd sounds like such a brave little girl, and I hope that she continues to improve Smile

Also hope you manage to get some sleep tonight!

Love and strength to you both x

sashh · 13/06/2012 04:27

More good wishes and thank you for the upldates

QueenieBea · 13/06/2012 04:43

Great news about the canula! Love the description of your dd's yawns, she sounds full of spirit Smile My friend had a blood transfusion after giving birth and she said it made her feel so much better and stronger, hopefully your dd will too. Maybe she will even get a Mnetters blood from the donation and when she is feeling better will have developed an aversion to fruit shoots and sausage rolls!

Seriously though, it is great to hear your updates, my thoughts are with you and your dd wishing her a speedy recovery.

StopEatingThatMud · 13/06/2012 06:16

Well I must of drifted off about half 1 and managed to sleep till half 5, so that's something I suppose!

The transfusion will be here I believe, but they need to do another blood test first this morning as the sample they took last night wasn't enough to cross match but they didn't have the heart to wake us both again to retry last night. I'm hoping it will help make her stronger, definitely, she's still so weak. I've been trying to book to give blood since the start of May after reading all the bits on here but have had to cancel twice because of having colds. I'll definitely be rebooking once this is all over! I LOVE the idea of her getting a MNer's blood and waking up demanding pom bears and naice ham!

I know exactly what you mean about needing to watch over her, part of me feels the same. There's kids in here whose parents have barely been in, I don't know their circumstances but its so sad, ones a tiny little baby. There's also another part of me that knows I have to try and get some rest though. We were readmitted after DD was born as she never really started feeding properly and lost a lot of weight 24 hours after discharge and had a bit of jaundice. When we came back in I ended up expressing and bottle feeding her every 3 hours. Factor in time to feed, express, settle her and clear up and that didn't leave much time for sleeping. I managed about 8 hours sleep in 5 days. It took me weeks to catch up on sleep when I got home and DP was back at work. I expressed until she was 4 weeks but then had to give it up as it was killing me not getting any sleep. The thought of feeling that completely and utterly exhausted and truly miserable again is enough to convince me to try and sleep where I can! As someone else said, I know I need to be strong for when we eventually get to go home.

That's s lot of times using the word "sleep" in that last paragraph, anyone guess what's on my mind this morning?! :)

Returning to this late, sorry.
Glad all the tests came back OK apart from the low RBCs. Equally glad there is some blood for her.
FX for a quiet day for you both today.

Sirzy · 13/06/2012 06:43

Glad you got some sleep. I always find the first 2 nights we are in I don't sleep at all and from then knackeredness catches up with you and I manage to sleep for 3 or 4 hours.

Hope the transfusion helps things

MinnieBar · 13/06/2012 07:28

Glad she's on the mend and it sounds like she's in a great hospital.

How's her grunting now? DD2 also had this at birth, but it cleared up pretty quickly with some whacking great doses of ABs.

oricella · 13/06/2012 07:35

hey, good morning - sounds like she's doing reallly well, glad to read it

Now though, you need to start thinking a little bit more about yourself: you can't go on like this for much longer and need some rest. Does the hospital have any parents accomodation that you could use to get some uninterupted sleep? I know how hard it is to leave B - but you need a break (and you know you do). Take up your family on camping out with her today or tomorrow (one at a time please) and get out for a little while - have a walk, crawl into you own bed for half a day.. the important thing is to get out for a bit. It will feel like betrayal, but it's essential for your family in the long run

WheresMyCow · 13/06/2012 07:57

Glad to hear that little B is showing some improvements and fingers crossed for her blood transfusion today.

oricella has some good advice, and I know it will be difficult but you need to make sure to take some time for yourself...if only to ensure that you're fit and well enough to stay strong for B as she starts to recover.

Thanks
FartBlossom · 13/06/2012 08:04

glad to hear it sounds like things are working and good luck with the blood transfusion today, hope all goes well.

milk · 13/06/2012 08:18

Good morning :) I hope the transfusion is a success and your DD keeps getting stronger and stronger and kicks this meningitis in the ass!!!

Dawndonna · 13/06/2012 08:39

Good morning. Hope all goes well today.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 13/06/2012 08:39

Oh glad you slept! I hope all goes well today....we're all thinking of you both and sending you tonnes of positivity.xxxx

dikkertjedap · 13/06/2012 09:39

Great that you managed at least to get a little sleep. Hope all goes as smooth as possible with the transfusion and that it gives her a real boost.

I agree with the others - it is great that you give us updates. I am thinking a lot about you.

bunnywhack · 13/06/2012 09:46

I'm glad you got some sleep and I hope all goes well with the transfusion today. Get as much sleep as you can even if its just napping at every opertunity.

Woodlands · 13/06/2012 09:48

Thanks for the udates, hope all goes well today.

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/06/2012 09:58

Still holding you and B in my thoughts. (((hugs)))

PeanutButterCupCake · 13/06/2012 10:02

mud that made me giggle B wanting pombears and naice ham after her transfusion Grin

Have the hospital given any idea of how long B will need IV antibiotics?

As others have said, I know it feels terrible but if you're going to be in hospital a while, you really do need a small break. Could DH or your DM sit with her for a few hours so you can sleep or have a bath or eat a proper meal?

Fingers, legs and eyes crossed for a speedy recovery for B

Thanks Brew Bear

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 13/06/2012 11:23

I agree with Peanut and also about your DH possibly having a few days off...your DD is small and in hospital....his employers will understand. Have you had much to eat at all yourself? Been out for any air?

I hope DD is feeling better every hour....xx

saffronwblue · 13/06/2012 12:13

Hope little B continues to improve and you continue to get some rest. Sometimes it helps just to go for a ten minute walk , just to get away from the hospital smell. Remember to drink lots of water yourself too.

Northernlurker · 13/06/2012 12:28

Great to read your update. Sounds like you and B are doing better. Praying all continues to improve.

ReindeerBollocks · 13/06/2012 12:31

Glad B is making tiny steps towards getting better. She sounds like quite a character with the yawning!

Hopefully the transfusion will give her a boost, and will help her energy levels. It's impossible to rest in those places, catnapping as and when is the only way to survive.
