yikes- here we go...

OP posts:
amberlight · 26/04/2012 17:22

Cherabel, hurrah re the result for you Smile. Thank you!

Sparkle, the flush doesn't take long once it's set up, but it can take several painful stabs to get the needle into the underskin port, and ages to set it all up in the first place before they've even got to that bit. So maybe half hour to an hour including waiting time.

NedSchneebly · 26/04/2012 17:43

Yay for cherabel !!!

MAS fbs in payment for picture recommendations is more than acceptable. Shall we start with a Star Bar? You set me off with an urge for one with your fb picture!

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/04/2012 17:52

star bars are most satisfying ! it's the fault of Kate Brazier on fb for photographing her Star Bar-= I had to go and buy one then...

My limit edition orange aero was quite lovely though. . .

olivo · 26/04/2012 18:01

thank you for being so welcoming. I haven't read all your thread ( you ladies can't half talk Wink) but what I have read has very much opened my eyes. I am trying hard to read up on what DSIL can expect but I might need to come back to you with questions.
I am lucky that we live nearby and our children are of a similar age. We get on well, I really hope i havent changed in my attitude to her; we usually start out very serious and end up talking about everything and anything.

Thanks for your tips on how I might help - as far as I know, she's not a MN but I might persuade her to become one, as you all seem so supportive of each other.

good luck to those currently going through treatment, and fab to hear about those who are through it.

KurriKurri · 26/04/2012 18:59

Evening all, - you all post too much when I go out for the day, and I can't keep up Grin

Hello Olivo, - lovely to see you, but very sorry that your SIL is dealing with BC. And of course she'd be very welcome on here if she fancies a chat Smile I think everyone has probably suggested all the things I was going to, - DVD's, audiobooks, books and mags, warm socks, edible treats - whatever she fancies - I ate dried fruit - it's quite nice to nibble on when you haven't got much appetite. Lifts if she needs them to hospital and maybe offer to keep her company while she has her chemo (I know that is dependent on whether your children are at school etc.). But mostly listen to her and let her talk if she wants too, - she'll have some down days, and some better days, sometimes she'll feel like crying and sometimes she'll feel like going out on a spree Smile

I wish her all the best, and if there are any more specific questions about things to do with chemo, just ask - nothing's off limits or TMI on here Grin

Cherabel - so pleased that you had a good result, you must be very relieved. And it's very sweet of you to give a donation Smile

Sending love to everyone else - take it easy everyone dealing with chemo S/E's. Good luck to you mum MAS, cuddles for Nikki dog, and to DS for his appointment Sparkle.
l4k - so sorry about your MIL, but I think as others have said if you can get them to phone results and that's what she wants, it would be good to get them out of the way, so she knows what's happening.

I have made a GP appointment for next Friday, and I'll talk to him about Dr Arrogant-Arse and get my blood results from him, then take it from there.

I was at a friends house today, and she lifted up her kettle to fill it, and a whole load of ants ran out from underneath, so she shrieked and shouted 'help me K, my kitchen is full of gits' Grin

NedSchneebly · 26/04/2012 19:10

Come back with whatever questions you like olivo

Yes, indeed, we can talk - a bit of drivel on occasion (am obviously only speaking for myself here Grin) but a great distraction from the other stuff going on. I would not have coped at all after my diagnosis without these lovely ladies. Support and look out for each other, whether we post once a day or once a week or once a month. Stick with us x

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/04/2012 19:47

drivel is vital...

OP posts:
NedSchneebly · 26/04/2012 20:00

And chocolate. . .

amberlight · 26/04/2012 20:45

ooo yes, especially the chocolate

l4k · 26/04/2012 20:59

Thanks for all the advice.
I'm going to check with mil first that she would like the news asap,by phone. If she is happy with that I'll ring and ask to speak to the breast care nurse she was introduced to and ask if she can let the consultant know we will be with her at all times. They said the MDT meeting is a week today so the results should be available from then on.

Mil is doing really well. She is very stoic and doesn't entertain snivelling around her.She said she needs me to be the grown up this time, and put me down on the form as the person to contact about her health at the clinic.
She is of the opinion if she has to have it anywhere, she'd rather have it there so she can cut it off.Hope that doesn't sound crass but after my poor fil's malignant brain tumour,I can see where she is coming from.

I really appreciate you taking the time to support our familyThanks

LimeJellyforBrains · 26/04/2012 21:57

AAAARGHH! Just spent ages (as usual) crafting a thoughtful long post then...yes you guessed it! Pffft!

The bits I can remember:

l4k not crass at all. I have felt the same. Wishing you all strength and some calm to get through the next week or so until results x

KK- arf re your friend! Ants are one of the few creatures I can kill en masse (but not a lone ant, too soft me Hmm), having once in a former house come downstairs to a kitchen surface black with them because I accidentally left half a banana out one summer night - ewww!

Sparkle hope DS appointment went well and DH behaving himself x

Hugs and waves to all and a big cheer for Cherabel!

Anyone else been feeling really droopy/dizzy today? Seems I'm not the only one round these parts - think it's to do with the weather/pressure - head tight and achy.

Going to press Send now before I lose this lot!

topsyturner · 27/04/2012 08:04

CT day .
I shall be gorn for a while .
Have a lovely day ladies Smile

l4k · 27/04/2012 08:48

Topsy-I thought that was this week.We are with you in spirit, and so is the fb trolley!! close your eyes and sniff,I've just put on some blueberry muffins that are still warm.Hope it goes smoothly for you.

lime-that happened to me the other day,VERY annoying!

graciesmall09 · 27/04/2012 09:15

Topsy hope it all goes well for you today.

lime I'm always losing my posts, most annoying as they never seem to read very well next time around.

Cherabel so glad your diagnosis was good. Your post was lovely.

Waving to everyone else. DH off work today so he is off doing school run but it means I have to look like I'm actually doing something rather than lounging around watching rubbish tv and stuffing my face drinking tea.

Sometimesiwonder · 27/04/2012 09:42

Candle lit for you Topsy - and for everyone else who feels they need its light today.

Cherabel - so pleased for your good result, and touched by your kind words.

14K - your MIl sounds like a star: the comment re her boob is not crass at all, totally understandable, even my oncologist said it to me (mind you, TBF, he can be crass Wink ) But seriously, she sounds like she has got it weighed up about right, which is quite remarkable this early on in the whole grisly process.

KK - your friend Grin I LOVE the word 'git'. It is often just the word I need. especially for an ant infestation.

Lime - fuzzy brain here all week. Lots of words have gone missing too Confused

amberlight · 27/04/2012 10:07

Topsy, good luck for today...

Gigondas · 27/04/2012 10:38

topsy candle here for you and will stock fbs with chocolate and Tom jones for you.

i4k I think mil comment makes a lot of sense.

lj my brain all over shop at best of times so no excuse for me

mas will get back to you re commission (am thinking about what we need so may need your help!).

Doing ok but got some kind of mild upset tummy- think its something going around rather than rads but not pleasant . Have to go to posh dinner thing for some sort of charity thing for my mum/step dad tonight- could do without it.

Gigondas · 27/04/2012 10:39

And cherabel so pleased it was all ok and so kind of you to donate.

smee · 27/04/2012 13:21

v.much there with Topsy today. Huge hugs from me to you. xx

l4k, definitely not crass. Have felt the same often. Your MIL sounds lovely. Hope you get some news through for her soon.

Cherabel, that's fantastic you're clear. So nice of you to post and to donate too. Smile

Amber, yay for delay, though don't go stressing about it all weekend.

Gig, tummy sounds annoying. Hope you're better soon. What did they say about your sore bits?!

Lime, am permanently fuzzy tbh. How's your rib ache? Mine's still ever present, even though bone scan said nothing. Confused

Any sign of Ned or Eight or Gracie? Hope you're all okay today.

Just had the strangest morning. Was at school at drop off, for a PTA meet, nipped into kitchens to pick up the tea tray and the lovely head cook confided her husband's got terminal cancer. They've been together since they were 13 and she was doing her best not to cry, so I told her about me and we had a hug (which is weird, as I barely know her!), then this teeny child from year one came over, insisting what we needed was to talk to the Owl. Sure enough there really was an owl. A huge one which is in school for the day with it's owner, so we both got to stroke the owl and this teeny child said, 'see'. If only an owl could fix things.. Very sweet, but v.sad too. Sad

Sometimesiwonder · 27/04/2012 13:28

How extraordinary! To me that is a story that somehow Has Meaning, though I am not sure I could explain what it was.

That poor couple. And that lovely child.

Gigondas · 27/04/2012 13:31

I got a tattoo (well three actually) as decided it would make it easier for the daily fit/measures as opposed to spending half an hour faffing. Wait til I tell my mum Wink. Also had nurse check scar (and will sort physio appt for me). She agreed sore spot is prob where I am sitting (it's hard to describe but basically I have been sat shoved hard onto side of my leg to keep weight off main bit of scar so all pressure is in this spot - it is quite hard not to sit on floor when have 2 small kids). Between her and therapist I feel a bit less like someone waiting for sentence.

smee that is very sad (poor man) but also quite sweet.

mas will pm you later.

Have crisps , shortbread and chocolate as have done quick m and s trip on way home.

topsy am thinking of you- I am also wondering if engelbert humperdinck should join orange hall of fame . It is nearly Eurovision time...
