Busy busy people! Just in from work and need a Wine Saw lovely surgeon today who was very pleased with his handiwork, but he agreed about the lopsidedness and said maybe I would need an implant in the future :( The radiotheraphy has set my boob and the weight I'm losing is coming off one sided. He also agreed that the lumpyness is likely down to loss of fat in the left boob and not a worry. Phew, think I can lockup my paranoia for a day or two. He said I can phone the ward and get a prothesis if I like. Had quite a wobble on the way in to work. really hoped to lose a couple of cup sizes. I know it is nothing much and I have come off lightly on this journey but going back to where I got my dx and seeing the surgeon made it real again. Also bit fed up that dh hasn't asked how it went. Read a bit about tamoxifen possibly leading to weight gain in an article about Jenifer Saunders.

Gigondas · 15/03/2012 18:32

Ah while I think of it- anyone who had rads how sore did you skin get and how tired did you get? Been warned soreness prob more of an issue than fatigue (as dr said you have small kids, how will you know Grin) . How long does it take to get sore and does anything help.

Practical really as now i can sit normally ok , am bracing myself for more discomfort .

jchocchip · 15/03/2012 18:35

Will put gin on the trolley and the crumbs of maple syrup fudge Blush ate nearly the whole bag on way to work. Very bad day all round :( Just sent dd out for fish and chips too, diet well and truly blown today!

Gigondas · 15/03/2012 18:38

Jchoc glad surgeon helpful. Also isn't fibrosis a known side effect of rads that can develop later? Onc said that to me as I logged it for when (not if) I get paranoid about my lumps.

Ohh Jennifer Saunders can go on my "positive story" list (yes I am sad and anal to have this)

jchocchip · 15/03/2012 18:38

Gig I didn't get very sore but everyone is different. It was the end of the third week before I needed dressings and then only for a week or so. Slap on the aqueous now to get your skin hydrated was the general advice.

Gigondas · 15/03/2012 18:39

Fish and chips - I could weep. Am going to
Retirement do for mate of dh (penalties of having a vintage dh)... I would love fish and chips and night In front of tv

Gigondas · 15/03/2012 18:39

Great idea Jchoc re aqueous

holstenlips · 15/03/2012 18:42

Woo, 21! Its been a while since I saw 21! I have crisps for you Gig, just did a mahoosive sainsbo shop with dc's piling stuff into trolley. My resistance was down and I just blindly paid for it all! Have also multiple choc bars, olives, nuts etc etc

Jchoc well done for getting thru appt, you're right , any trip to hosp seems to bring back the feelings around dx. Hope they help u to sort out your boobies (sorry to put that so crudely, I mean it with all best wishes)
Just watching Kate middleton on news, clearly she does not indulge in fbs :) I'm just jel!

jchocchip · 15/03/2012 18:43

Maybe you will enjoy it when you get there! vintage is a good word :) I must remember it for when dh turns 50 this year and not refer to him as an old git, as I think that may get on his nerves...

jchocchip · 15/03/2012 18:46

Mmmm olives. I've got a new bottle stuffed with almonds - on a good day I pack up a salad for work with plenty of them, scrummy. :)

topsyturner · 15/03/2012 18:46

Ah 21 , feels like yesterday ... Grin

Have been convinced it was Friday all day today . May have to have a small glass of wine to ease the blow that it's actually Thursday !
Rose anyone ?

topsyturner · 15/03/2012 18:47
holstenlips · 15/03/2012 18:55

Ooh topsy I'll have a rose, its defo in order. Just had ex-h visit to see dd, let's just say we try to be civil. Just doesn't always work. Hence need for wine :)

Gig, have fun tonight and don't trip over any zimmers whilst doing the lambada :)

Jchoc, olives are my fave. Yet I've never tried them stuffed with almonds..feeling a trip to waitrose tomorrow lunch break!

jchocchip · 15/03/2012 18:55

Hi Topsy Just the thing Rosé, you mean wine? yes please! will go nicely with my gin :) Intending to have a drink or two tonight - no pub though :(

holstenlips · 15/03/2012 18:56

MAS have u been to book club already? How did your day go on?

AngryFeet · 15/03/2012 18:57

Hello ladies!

I am back from a wonderful visit to a private hospital! Got there 10 mins early, seen straight away by a lovely doctor who was very thorough and pronounced me all clear except for a tiny cyst that he wasn't bothered by.

In and out in 20 mins! Unbelievable! We are very very lucky to have private healthcare funded by DHs work so I am eternally grateful and a bit sad for the poor ladies at the local hospital today who were having to wait an extra week to get their ultrasounds done :(

Oh and a little bonus - we bumped into Ronnie Corbet and his wife in the corridor on the way out! Bonus celebrity spot Grin

Thank you so much for the hand holding ladies and hope all goes well for everyone here xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/03/2012 19:01

well done for the surgeon bit jane.
Gig I'll second the liberal use of aqueous - I was fine until the last few blasts when my skin broke down badly and needed dressings, but it healed up very quickly after that.
topsy I keep thinking it's Friday too- bah !

Evening all!

Wow we've come of age - who'd have thought Smile

So many posts, I won't even attempt to comment on everything - I am tired out after my driving lesson and wouldn't make any sense anyway.

Hello to OneStep, you are very welcome of course, but sorry you find yourself here. - I was DX nearly four years ago, I had a mastectomy +chemo+rads and a bit of other stuff, but am only just now getting round to having a reconstructon done. In fact at one point I thought I wouldn't bother at all, but have decided now I'd like one. - It's a very individual decision, - and I think there are ad and disadvantages both ways - if you delay you don't have to worry about radiotherapy affecting your recon. and some studies show that having been without a boob for a while women tend to be happier with their recon. (because they compare recon. boob to no boob, rather than recon to real boob IYSWIM) - but obviously there are loads of people who have it straight away who are perfectly happy with their result and glad to have got all their surgery done in one go.

Sorry - not especially helpful - its a lot of things to make decisions on when you are still reeling from DX, but IME, - when you settle on a decision whatever you chose will feel right for you. Meantime - loads of luck with your treatment and if there are any questions about mastectomy I can help with - just shout out Smile

angryfeet - I hope you have managed to get some more answers tonight (I think you are still at appointment) thinking of you.

Gig - I started to get sore under my arm after about two weeks of radiotherapy, then just after I'd finished (three weeks) the skin went blackish and peeled off leaving it very raw underneath. - My chest was fine, it was just under the arm I think where it is damper (yuk Blush) and gets less air.

Don't want to scare you though - but forewarned is forearmed, you may well not get skin break down at all - not everyone does. If you get any problems insist on them keeping a good check on it - some dressings can help, painkillers, checks for infection - whatever you think you might need. Complain until you get what you need Grin

Loose clothing - don't bother with underwear - whatever makes you comfy.

Just seen little Sometimes is poorly - hope she's better soon.

Sorry - I've rabbited on again - I'm going to have a cuppa and then read over posts again. As you know I have thyroid brain atm, and am a little hard of understanding/remembering Grin - and you've gone and changed threads on me - that's way too complex!

holstenlips · 15/03/2012 19:07

Aww poor Ronnie and wife :(
