Positive thoughts to your aunt kk , hope all goes smoothly for her .

Hello columbia , sorry to hear about your spine problems . Have they scanned you to see what's what yet ?

Got DDs friend around for a playdate this afternoon , its keeping her occupied for a few hours
Also got nice lad round from next door playing on DSs play station , it's his Friday treat .

Just seen a Delia advert on tv for roast chicken , looks yummy .
Now I'm hungry , what is everyone having for dinner tonight ?
We have a vigil mass tonight for St Pats , so dinner us going to be a later one .

Who has plans for the weekend ? Have DS at opticians on Saturday , then it's the England/Ireland match on Saturday evening (that will lead to an evening of shouting at each other Grin )
Granny's as usual on Sunday , which reminds me we must get her a mothers day pressie tomorrow .

I also have a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge , and I think my neighbour mentioned something about spicey chicken wings being on offer this evening .
She is also planning to trim the mental bits off my hair . It appears to be growing at different rates !

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 14:43

Thanks both Smile

topsy - sounds like a nice weekend lined up Smile I'm guessing Scotland will be losing against playing Italy, - rugby season is a traumatic time in the Kurri House Grin

I don't know what to make for dinner tonight, I've got bits and pieces around but not feeling very inspired atm. So possibly egg sandwiches Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2012 15:16

I know we're having shepherd's pie for mother's day as it's my favourite !
Going to do some work shortly, mediation and pop over to see the old ones for a glass or two of wine (a Friday habit now) Got mum some campanulas in a metal jug from M&S for M's Day- flowers sent to MIL. Your weekend sounds v nice topsy. Dh will watch the rugby, probably with my dad- dh supporting Scotland as he is half Scottish Grin

Slow down, everyone, wait for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

So much to catch up on, and my typing is operating a little bit behind my chemo brain today!

Welcome onestep (love the name btw - its a good mantra to live by with this shitty disease) Sorry you have to be here, but we are a very cool bunch to hang out with, I think, and ride the rocky road together. I was only diagnosed in early January, had surgery for ductal carcinoma 2 weeks later, and am currently in the throes of cycle 2 of chemotherapy. I have 4 more to go, then 4 weeks of rads then tamoxifen. Its v scary and all too much to take in at once. Take it easy and come here to rant, cry, swear, shout, eat virtual snacks and ask any questions you like.

My DS is 4, and I have tried to be honest but simple with him. I told him I had nasty bugs in my booby that the doctor had to take away, and that I would have to have a sleep over the hospital. (I had a lumpectomy) then I told him that I would have to have to nasty medicine to make sure all the nasty bugs were definitely gone, and it would make me feel sick and tired, and how funny! would make my hair fall out! So far he's been fine, touch wood. He wanted to wear a headscarf the first morning I decided I had lost enough hair to need one!

topsy weekend away sounds fun, and your weekend plans too - hope rugby not too traumatic?!

angryfeet YAY for all clear - awesome! You must be so relieved!

JChoc sounds like you had a positive meeting with your surgeon - so pleased for you!

Sparkle Sounds like DSs hospital appointment was positive. Definitely good if you can get some help with the pain for him.

sometimes MORE work?! Well done you! You must be super chuffed that your genius is being recognised far and wide. . .

kurri excellent to hear those tablets are making you feel a bit better, even after just a couple of days - so pleased for you. You've had to wait far too long to get this sorted.

Smee exciting news about matching boobs op planned! Sounds very positive.

I saw lovely practice nurse yesterday morning. Had a lovely chat with her. She had chemo too, for lymphoma, so it was nice to talk to someone who knew what it was like. Might possibly have had a big soggy little cry. Blush Seeing Dr Lovely on Tuesday to get more ADs and extend sick note for work.

Saw oncology nurse too - she was a bit more matter of fact, and medical, if that makes sense. she gave me some movicol to keep everything moving, as she said it was better and more gentle than lactulose. Will wait to see. . .!

Mahoosive post - will leave off now, but feel better for having caught up a bit.Sorry if I have missed any other mega news!

1stepatatime · 16/03/2012 16:03

Ned - thanks for the welcome, everyone has been so friendly since I first posted. Sorry you're also going through a difficult time, good luck with your chemo and hope you're not suffering too many side effects. Bless your DS, kids can be so sweet. They've got a canny way of making you smile when you need it most.

Kurri - sending lots of positive vibes your aunt's way, let us know how she gets on.

Hi to everyone else, hope you've all had a relatively good day :)

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 16:10

Thanks 1step Smile

hello Ned, - how are you feeling today, a bit less ghastly than last time I hope. Good that you saw nice practice nurse, and are seeing Dr Lovely again (don't worry about weeping - people being kind used to set me off too Smile)

Movicol worked well for me - although if you haven't tried it yet, it comes as a drink which tastes yuk - I mixed mine into squash and made sure I didn't use too big a glass so it wasn't a huge drink to get down

NedSchneebly · 16/03/2012 16:37

Thanks for the tip on the movicol kurri taken one dose already - managed to get it all down in one!

Feeling much better than last time - much less achy, and less sore in joints. Sickness seems pretty under control with the Emend, but not sure what will happen tomorrow once Emend runs out. . . Can I ask for more if I still feel queasy? Or just go back on to metoclopramide? Feeling not too bad, just don't want to go backwards. . .

What news on your aunt? Hope everything OK?

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 17:29

I would ask for more if you feel you need it Ned and its working for you - at worse they will say no, but if it's helping then def. ask. - don't put up with anything you don't have to is my feeling Smile

I'm glad you are feeling less achy and awful today, - is the chemo side of things a bit less scary now you've got some idea what goes on? - hope so Smile

I haven't heard about Aunty yet - I expect my mum will phone tomorrow, she didn't know whether she was a morning or afternoon op. , but I daresay she will be a little while in recovery, and mum will have to wait for my cousin to phone her with news.

She's 86 (or there abouts) but generally healthy and fit I think. I'm going to choose her a book tomorrow to read while she convalesces, - she was very sweet when I had all my treatment always sending me cards and books etc.

Gigondas · 16/03/2012 17:40

Kurri we are not worthy - you made the chat round up Smile

Ned glad things seem a bit better on emend.

Touch wood - mini been fine since jabs . Bit more sleepy but no more fussy than usual. Midi gig ate the cake she made
For me at pre school for mothers day- tbh I was relieved as it had very pink icing which was covered in her finger marks do wasnt that appetizing Wink

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 18:00
Grin

Aww at midi gig and her cake making (but yes wise to avoid - they make some very vibrant foodstuffs at pre school Grin)

thegreylady · 16/03/2012 18:01

Wow these threads must be the fastest moving on mn!I have 'the virus' atm so feeling really rough but hope you are all ok my loves :)
That might be a bit hunny but I do feel an affectionate solidarity with you all.

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 18:11

hope you feel better soon greylady xx

How was your trip to Poland?

Gigondas · 16/03/2012 18:18

Hi grey lady. Sorry you are poorly.

Kurri I am grateful I am not one of the mums who got the dayglo blue icing. Also it is better than the day they bought jam tarts home- strawberry jam tart squashed into a napkin in a book bag looks like road kill.

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 18:53

arf at roadkill tarts Grin

amberlight · 16/03/2012 19:40

'Evening all. Harry the monitor was rudely behaved and I'm cream-crackered from lack of sleep. Love the idea that he might have been a giant lizard Grin

Results next week.

jchocchip · 16/03/2012 20:18

:) at dayglo icing. Had a crappy day, ds has dropped out of uni but at least we know now and he is safe at home. Hope everyone is hqving a good friday night :) Wine

Gigondas · 16/03/2012 20:31

Amber hope you Have a good evening now the lizard has gone Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2012 20:35

Meant to say,I bought the Janette Winterson for my mum for Christmas- am longing to read it (heard her read from it on R4 Book of the Week a few months ago...dad has read it and loved it !

smee · 16/03/2012 21:00

That's a good recommendation then, MAS. I've been looking forward to it since Christmas. Smile

Got friends round coming any minute, so haven't time to read all. Just wanted to wish you all a fabulous weekend.

Noticed a few things, so am waving to Grey Lady, glad you're back, though hope the bug goes soon.

Gig, hope teenyGig continues to react well to jabs.

Jane, spotted your news. Hope DS is okay and got a plan..!

Ned, really hope you'll avoid any more sickness.

Amber, am mighty glad you've seen the back of Harry. He would have been far more interesting if he had been a lizard. Grin

Finally an impressed round of applause for Kurri for making the round up. Smile

Waving to all others. Sorry not to post to everyone. xx Smile

topsyturner · 16/03/2012 21:15

Well done kk for making the round up ! Fame at last .
I made it a couple of weeks ago and I can't remember what for !
Damn chemo brain ...

Bit sloshed tonight , whoops ...

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 21:31

Grin (Do kick me folks if I'm getting too full of it Grin)

jane - sorry to hear about your DS, as you say at least you know he is safe at home. Maybe he just didn't feel quite ready yet - they are so young to make such big decisions about their lives. There will be plenty of time for him to go to Uni. if he wants to in the future, or to do something else. But hugs to you - as parents we always want everything to go smoothly for our kids and ache for them when it doesn't.

evening amber Smile is Harry the giant lizard gone now then? good if he has - fingers crossed for good results next week.

Enjoy your evening Smee. And a good weekend to all x

NedSchneebly · 17/03/2012 07:44

jchoc sorry about DS. Hope you can work out a plan for him. Glad that he's home with you. In some ways it's better that he's made a decision, rather than soldiering on and being miserable. My DB dropped out of uni, and ended up doing some useful work experience and got a place on a much more suitable course for him second time round. Tis a big worry though, I'm sure. Good luck and big hugs to all of you x x

smee hope you had a lovely evening with your friends.

topsy how's the head this morning?!

amber glad to see the back of Harry! Take it easy though, won't you?

kurri I do feel a bit braver about chemo, as this one seems a bit easier. Haven't taken anything this morning except steroid, and feeling not too bad. Going to play it by ear to see if I need the metoclopramide at all, or can do without. Better for the bowels if I can leave off it!

Nice to see you greylady but sorry to hear you're feeling rotten. Hope you're feeling a bit brighter this morning.

1step how are you today?

amberlight · 17/03/2012 08:27

Easy??! What is this word, what can it mean ? Grin

Yup, heading into town for a stroll round with a friend and a chance to buy some replacement undergarments. And have lunch.

Jchoc, are you able to share reasons why he's dropped out? Got this ahead of us with our own DS in September and I'm nervous of exactly that, as he can really struggle.
