No one looks forward to it, but it still has to be done!

I've only had one in my life, when I was in my early 20's. I keep getting doctors letters, but I never make an appt.

roisin · 31/01/2006 19:12

You are serious about this, aren't you? If I'm going to get serious grief, I will phone and make an appointment. I'll try and phone tomorrow.

I think there's an optimum point in your cycle to have a smear done, isn't there? Can you remind me when it is please?

I got so fed up of doctors letters I opted out of the smear service. I have only had one in my life in my early 20's which was such a horrible experience it felt like rape and left me with severe internal problems, and nothing, not even the thought of dying, would make me go and subject myself to the ordeal again.

brimfull · 31/01/2006 19:23

god.....just missed my smear appt last week, genuinely forgot, but was heavily on anyway so ...
will rebook tomorrow

CelluliteQueen · 31/01/2006 19:23

Got mine tomorrow - oh joy! (aw god - "flop your legs Mrs * and RELAX! yeh right ).

Twiglett · 31/01/2006 19:24

Milge .. how about the thought of your children growing up without a mother?

I was just going to ask that Roisin!

Our local FPC doesn't do smears, last time I needed 1 I tried there first but ended up going to GP

mrsdarcy · 31/01/2006 20:22

I can't remember when I last had one. Whenever it's mentioned I'm either pregnant, ttc or too recently post-natal to face it. But thanks for the reminder, Twiglett, I'll make the appointment.

expatinscotland · 31/01/2006 20:23

I'm going tomorrow evening when I go for my coil appointment.

LIZS · 31/01/2006 20:24

I was told today as close to mid cycle as possible. Apparently the results can be inconclusive if the timing isn't right. However my Swiss ObGyn did it any time.

hoxtonchick · 31/01/2006 20:29

you should have a smear mid-cycle.

this is so, so important. i'm quite upset that people aren't having them done .

izzybiz · 31/01/2006 20:34

mine will have to be anytime, ive never had a cycle!

motherinferior · 31/01/2006 20:37

And there are plenty of nurses and so on around to occupy your children, I've found - or frankly they can just watch. I doubt it'll traumatise them for life.

chjlly · 31/01/2006 20:59

I had my last smear at my 1st coil check just after I had it put in and they did a smear even though I was bleeding. The nurse just did it as she was fiddling around down there anyway!!

nowanearlyNicemum · 01/02/2006 09:15

lockets, I had a smear when I was pregnant with dd. I was only about 6 weeks but they still did it. In fact, they insisted on it. Obviously they do things differently over here.

popsycalindisguise · 01/02/2006 09:21

add me on
3 years 2 months was last one
