OMG You've scared the living daylights out of me.....I had an abnormal smear before I was pregnant with ds2, was called back but it was too late, apparanlty, as I was pregnant.

Never got round to going back, ended up pregnant with dd who is now 14 weeks. So it's been nearly 3 years since I had that abnormal smear.

Worse thing is I've already had laser surgery for pre-cancerous cels about 10 years ago.

Twiglett - I will go before the end of the week, but how do you get a smear with 2 wee babies in tow? Any suggestions (I have no one to look after them dp is working)

Jasnem · 30/01/2006 20:46

I took my two with me when I had one after my second DD was born, and kept them strapped in the double buggy- nurse pulled the curtain so I could see kids, but they didn't see the "business end".
You just have to find a way.

Last time I went,I was told recommended time had changed from 5 to 3 years between smears, but I've never had a reminder(and I knew it had been 5 years for me).
If you're not sure, ring GP and ask- they should have a record.

RTKangaMummy · 30/01/2006 20:49

Ask a nurse to look afrer them for you

Thanks WWB hope so

Carmenere · 30/01/2006 20:49

Ok I'll hold my hands up, I have ignored mine but I will make the appointment tommorow I promise

Lonelymum · 30/01/2006 20:50

Last month I took my 2 yo with me and he just stayed by the chair I had been sitting in looking at a book. But when booking the apt, I mentioned having my little one with me and the receptionist said there was alwasy someone who could look after him for me for a few minutes if I wanted.

Last time I needed a smear or an internal examination, I had a baby and he just sat/lay nest to me on the couch.

Don't let your little ones stop you going Redtartanlass.

ShaysMummy · 30/01/2006 20:51

SPARKLER1 · 30/01/2006 20:52

bubblerock · 30/01/2006 20:53

I've had two reminders I will go though, I was reading the leaflet and you can go to the walk in centre (no appointment), evening out of hours surgery or the gp surgery here which is brilliant - no excuse! 3 years since my last one.

I have it written on my calender to book and still haven't done it, last one was nearly three years ago after ds2. Have to admit it concerns me alot, just don't seem to be able to get my arse in geear, mid cycle and all that

Jasnem · 30/01/2006 21:02

No, No, No..take me of your list of shame - the five year gap was a mistake, but I did have it done! I'm not due again for 2 more years.

tribpot · 30/01/2006 21:03

Okay, I just asked my friend what she would say to a mum who hadn't been for a smear. She said:

========================================
I'd tell her not to be so stupid, that cervical cancer is one of the ones that can be curable and what would she prefer - to have treatment (as unplesant as it might be) or to die and leave her kids without a mother?

And that having a smear is a precaution - like looking when you cross the road. You still might be hit by a random joy rider, but it reduces the risk

There we have it, ladies.

devilJARM · 30/01/2006 21:06

Last smear I was 20 - now 23, had 2 kids inbetween..... had swabs taken while pg with dd2 is it the same thing?! Naieve (sp?) about this sort of thing..... do i need another smear?!

I know, I know, I know
we've recently moved house and I don't even know where I'm supposed to go to have one done.

thanks for the reminder though, Twiglett

waterfalls · 31/01/2006 12:43

Not had one for about 7 years and my last results came back as abnormal, I should know better really, I knew someone who died from cervical cancer, she was only 21

spacecadet · 31/01/2006 12:44

[sheepish], i have had a smear reminder through, but havent got round to having it done, i will do it though, i usually always go as my ex landlady died of cervical cancer.

nowanearlyNicemum · 31/01/2006 12:48
