Jeez .. I'm quite shocked at this

what do you all think you're doing? do you think it might not happen to you ..

how about this statistic ... 1 in 12 smears come back dodgy .. 1 in 12

PICK UP THE PHONE AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

Find your local family planning clinic and do it there

I'm overdue too
and I should go but I was giving myself a break after 4 consecutive years of having them but I should know not to miss really after having laser surgery to treat abnormal cells 5 years ago
I will make an appointment though when we have moved house

Oh yes, I need to do mine, got my 3 year reminder the other day.

So I am not really in need of an ass kick, just a gentle reminder.

Mine is overdue as well (sort of)!

Had one about a year after DS was born and the results came back abnormal. Had one since and the result was fine. But supposed to have one every six months and the last one was a year ago!!

Again, it's not thru fear as such, but just the inconvenience at the moment (parents not around much at the mo to look after DS as my sister had a baby in Sept '05 and lives quite far away and they visit quite a lot.)

Need to do it though

I had a letter about 2 months ago from the NHS Trust and then one from the Docs surgery. I had one just after DD was born, so I'm due one now. Will get it done as soon as I'm at the right stage in my cycle.

Booked for 21st - not sure if it will be exactly the "right time" but that was the earliest it could be - together with an MOT check.

Nutty, I thought it was. I think I'd better chase it up - I'm sure I haven't had one since dd was a few months old.

I had mine on Friday last week (overdue - but to be fair I booked an appointment as soon as I got my letter!).

Tried not to think about it before I went! Dr was lovely, telling me about how the worst bit about gynaecology is people's smelly feet (mine were clean!!!).

I had a "new" sort - she used a spongy thing on a stick which then went into liquid - apparently has a much higher success rate than the old scrape job.

I've never had one neither. Don't ahve a gp neither. I'm terrible at check ups tho, I missed the 6 week check after having dts too. [embarrassed] Going to the drs with three or four kids in tow is not fun.

Don't leave your appointments - go and get it done. You are being offered a preventative service for free!!!!
I had CIN3/borderline carcinoma and had great lumps of my cervix cut off - not pleasant. So please don't miss your opportunity to avoid this situation.

So waterfalls that's you all booked for your smear test then, right? It's been 7 years and your last was abnormal so I'm sure you phoned up straightaway this morning!

Im joining too !! ds2 is 7 months, was meant to get it done 4 months ago, Ive just had my second reminder through, and MUST arrange for Dh to take some time off work to look after the kids, so I can go. I dont mind having it done as such, it's making the time and getting Dh to take time off work. No excuses Im phoning in the morning !! Thanks for the bum kicking !!

Report
waterfalls · 31/01/2006 15:57

Erm.... I actually tried to book one yesterday, for 2 weeks Monday, as mondays are the only days DH can get off work, but they could not fit me in, so it will have to wait another month, because I cant really have a smear test with dts in the room.

Waterfalls ! How old at the dts? On the other thread, there are women who've taken their kids w/them to their smears.

SEVEN years?! And your last was abnormal?? You need seen.

Do you have a local family planning clinic? They can also do smears in addition to your GP practice.

Both the family planning clinics near me do evening surgeries, too, so if childcare is an issue (I'm one of the ones who've had to take their kids with them and managed), then try them!

Another one to say, just go.

They have just turned 2, and would rin riot, I know I must get it done, I am the most disorganised person you could meet.
