Morning all- fingeers crossed for topsy and anyone else who needs fingers crossing. Smile

I've got appointment with surgeon tomorrow- will it just be a formality, make sure I'm just healing OK etc? Hopefully he'll have all the pathology results, I guess, but he probably won't be able to give me details about what's next for me, will he?

Sometimesiwonder · 01/02/2012 10:27

Thanks for the new thread MAS! It seems a tradition that you start it, so I left it for you also I can't do links

Ned - it'll be a look at the wounds and the path results, I think, and he'll have a good idea of what is to follow, but he'll likely refer you on to the oncology guys from here.

Holsten - am glad your kids are looking after you. District nurses still exist around here and they are pretty good, it seems. Give them a go.

Topsy - forgetting to take tablets is not good Glad you are feeling better though.

Colder than a very cold thing from Coldshire here. Brrr!

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2012 10:44

yes, what sometimes said- a gander at the wounds and probably path results then referal to onc.. and thanks for saving the new thread for me Grin
Am off to paint some bits of work, then to brave the cold. Tomorrow up early to take car to car hospital as something weird is going on (hope it gets me to and from piano lesson later)
Will be thinking of you tomorrow ned and waiting for you with fbs.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 01/02/2012 11:50

Back from hospital .
CT scan went a bit wrong . They couldn't get a line in for the contrast fluid . Finally got one in , started the CT , started pumping the contrast fluid in , and the vein collapsed . Cue very very very hurty arm I may have sworn and swelling that would have made the Elephant Man stop and say "wow" .
They stopped the contast fluid and finished the scan .
Then I had to stay on the bed whilst they tried to massage some of the fluid out . Still sore and swollen , but apparently my knitting will help loosen it up Grin

Appointment on the 20th for results .
I am now self medicating having a bacon sandwich .
Where's the fbs trolley ?

smee · 01/02/2012 12:15

Ouch Topsy, that sounds sore. Sad fbs will aide recovery I'm sure.

Holstein, I had District Nurse round when I had my back op. I imagined Nerys Hughes on a bicycle, but she turned out to be a funky young thing who was into photography. Grin

Marmite, are you okay today?? Really hope so.

Eight, you too. Are the anti-ick drugs still doing their stuff?

Wondering how Stars is too. If you're eavesdropping Stars, come back and say hi and let us know you're okay.

Boiler on the blink here, of course when it's cold and also when DH is away. Called our lovely Plumber has said he'll drop by later. My mum has a mini-crush on him, so I called to tell her, but she thought coming all the way down to see him was possibly a bit ott. Grin

Went for a swim first thing after dropping DS and my muscle pain is so much better. Feel quite sprightly and spring like. Smile

SparkleRainbow · 01/02/2012 12:31

Grin at sprightly and spring like smee.

Ouch Topsy - hope it eases very soon. FBS in the meantime.

KurriKurri · 01/02/2012 12:37

Morning all, - topsy ouch! - that sounds horrid, Sad - bacon sandwich definitely the way to go.

Ned - I agree with other - probably path results, wound check and on to the oncologist.

V-cold here as well, and frosty.

had my endocrinology appointment this morning, saw a different consultant and she was very nice, very chatty etc. She had a good look at my eyes remember they were swollen at the weekend) and they've been sore recently, she says I have thyroid eye disease (hooray!) so has given me some ointment and a number to ring to instantly see a specialist if they suddenly get very inflamed or swollen. So that's a big joy.

I've also put on even more weight (thyroid probs. the disease that just keeps giving).

Had to have another blood test because they hadn't done one of the tests and had thrown my sample away.

She said I can stop taking beta blockers though because my tremors and palpitations have gone, so she said the drugs will just be making me feel ill now.(hence me nodding off everyday mid afternoon I think)

Anyway, I seem to be her patient now, which is good I think, as I liked her, and she said she'll phone me tomorrow with the blood test results.

Right, hide that FBS trolley from me, I am officially a bloater and need to get my act together! Grin

love to all, good luck for anyone having med stuff or feeling yuk from treatment, - sorry that this post is all about me me me ,

SparkleRainbow · 01/02/2012 12:52

Ooo Kurri, that seems a lot of take in. Are you ok?

smee · 01/02/2012 12:53

Oh no, Kurri. Good that you have a lovely Consultant, but diagnosis is a blow. I can see it helps to know what it is, but what does it mean in terms of future treatment?? Can they manage it a bit better now they're sure?

Sometimesiwonder · 01/02/2012 12:57

Grin at Nerys Hughes on a bicycle, that's just what mine was like (apart from the bike)! They are good though, and a useful port in a storm.

Topsy - ouch, ouch and triple ouch! That sounds awful Sad Does it still hurt?

KK - mixed blessings there, then! A nice doc, no beta blockers and an emergency number are definitely good things, but thyroid eye disease? New one on me, but doesn't sound like a walk in the park. As for weight gain - could that have been the beta blockers? I bet it could.....In which case, you could be sylphlike before you know it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2012 13:32

oh dear kk but it sounds as though new doc knows her stuff and hope you can be sorted - it must seem like one thing after another.
And poor topsy too - ow.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2012 13:33

smee keep warm- hope lovely plumber can sort it Grin at your mum's crush !

OP posts:
Driftwood999 · 01/02/2012 16:35

KK - you poor thing, at least you've had an MOT by someone you like, so fingers crossed for your results and I hope your eye symptoms go rapidly.
Topsy - That sounds like a really horrid procedure, hope the swelling subsides with the knitting and that your results are encouraging.
Holsten - lovely to read about your little girl coming back from school, and there being no hard feelings! That day sounded really tough. Hope you turn a corner soon with the pain. Have you been seen yet?
Grin at the Air Miles!
Smee - I'm not medically trained, but we have 2 Osteopaths in the family. Whenever we have that sort of muscle ache, we are advised to keep it moving, with gentle exercise and that good posture is the most important thing to aid recovery. So no slouching, stand up straight and shoulders back! Massage is good, and iboprufen (sp) if you're allowed. Swimming may be therapeutic, you are the one to judge really, as swimming just feels so all round good. Can't wait to get back to it myself.
Skin not too bad, thanks to all.
Best wishes to all feeling blue for whatever reason.
Thanks for the continuing thread MAS.

KurriKurri · 01/02/2012 18:20

hello all - sorry to disappear Dh decided to have an afternoon off so tok the opportunity to go to Asda, which is a bit further out, to get some nice healthy foods, - so I've made a nice vegetable chili for supper.

I am OK about the eye business, I'd rather know - I had suspected - and at least they can keep an eye (so to speak! Grin) on things now. It's not a great thing to have, because it can damage your sight, but hopefully if they can get the thyroid stable there won't be any further damage (there's not much at the moment)

Holsten, your DC sound lovely - so you must have done a great job with them Smile

Was just talking to mum on the phone and she reminisced about a hitch hiking trip to the Lake District, she took with 2 female friends just after the war (so she'd be about 23/24) 'Of course everyone hitch hiked then' she said 'and I took a gun in case anyone tried to kidnap us' !!! ShockShock - on further inquiry she got borrowed it from a friend or something - it was of starting pistol, but still - mad as twenty badgers all her life!

jchocchip · 01/02/2012 19:50

Ouch Topsy. Sorry to hear about the eye thing kk, but at least they will monitor it now as you say.

Freezing here. Thought my fingers were going to drop off earlier cycling without gloves. Failed to do my run today. Dd has a place at Bradford for the art foundation too, interview started with the words, "You've got a place", which is sort of guaranteed to put you at ease...

topsyturner · 01/02/2012 19:55

kk that sounds worrying , I have never heard of it before . Hope they manage to stabilise your thyroid .
Am in deep admiration of your mother though Grin

My arm feels ok now . Just a bit tight feeling . Was bloody painful at the time though !

Sitting infront of my roaring fire now with my knitting and a bag of Aero Orange Flavoured Bubbles .

topsyturner · 01/02/2012 19:56

Well done to your DD jane . Any preference as to which place she wants to go to ?

BackforGood · 01/02/2012 20:04

Oh. I've not watched Junior Drs - will have to have a peek on 'catch up'.
Youch Topsy that sounds pretty horrible
Bitterly cold here. I'm hoping they'll call dd2's football match on Saturday morning off, on Friday night, so I can not bother getting up on Sat morning, just to find out it's off because the ground is frozen (cos we all know it will be) Grin
Oh KK that doesn't sound good - although good that your consultant sound so nice.
Will some of you help me out with the cheesecake that ds made please? It's lovely, but so rich, even I can't manage more than two small pieces in a day.
Keep warm everyone Smile

jchocchip · 01/02/2012 20:09

Dd is finding it hard to choose, I suspect she would like Leeds, but that interview is not for a fortnight and its very competitive.

KurriKurri · 01/02/2012 21:26

Stop trying to lead me of the straight and narrow BFG - I have had a plate of vegetable chilli, and a bowl of fruit and low fat yogurt for pud. No cheesecake for me - well maybe just a tiny spoonful Grin

I'm glad your arm's a bit better topsy. Junior Drs is good isn't it - although I did sympathise with the woman who said basically 'no more sticking needles in me and failing, get a nurse to do it.' - there's only so may times they can practice on the same person!

Well done to your DD jane - I hope she gets an offer from Leeds as well - then she will be spoilt for choice Smile

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 01/02/2012 21:53

Hello all, I am sorry kk and topsy for your tribulations, MAS thanks for your advice re WW. DD2 is finally getting treatment for her grief and it seems to be helpful. I think DS getting his place at uni was a big influence on her actions, they are 16 months apart ( I know mad!) and in many ways he is the man in her life. But all we can do is hope. BTW I find Junior Doctors scary, would I trust my DC?!?
Thinking of you all

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2012 22:14

that's good that dd is getting help with grief ILGC
Well done to jane's dd - did you say she had a place at Birmingham too ?
I remember my interview for foundation, aeons ago ! also my one for my degree course..art school was a really happy time for me,though foundation was a bit of a shock- I did feel a bit lost.
kk love the sound of your mum Grin

This is the short version of the message that I wrote yesterday and lost when my internet connection died! Topsy that sounds horrific - hope you are feeling better now and will be crossing fingers for good results for you. Kurri, I guess it is good that they know what you've got but I am sure you could have done without it - is this all connected to your thyroid problems and has the radioactive treatment helped at all with that? Smee - hope you ache less today. Congratulations, to Jane dd - it is great to have choices about where to go - I have vile memories of trying to get to an interview at Leeds and getting stuck on the ring-road - 2 hours to do a 10 mile journey. Luckily I am paranoic about these things and got there just in time but not surprisingly given my stress levels by that time did not get the job. Hope your journey will be better. Pills are continuing to keep me under control although my tummy stills tell me when I am due the next one. Have a school assembly to look forward to this morning - ds1 has opted out of the dancing (too girly) but is reading the introduction. Good luck Ned for your appointment today - there is a booklet 'understanding your pathology results' which I found one of the most helpful of everything that has been doled out to me particularly as it gives a list of questions to ask and for each set of results suggests what treatments they are likely to offer. If you haven't been given it is downloadable from breastcancercare website.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2012 07:47

hope assembly is good oneineight !
Lots of good thoughts to ned

OP posts:
topsyturner · 02/02/2012 08:42

Positive thoughts and candle lit for you today ned .
What time is your appointment ?

Enjoy the assembly 1in8 . I always enjoy them . DDs class has managed to be assigned the St Patricks Day assembly this year . Should be a riot Grin

Got DS home sick today . Tummy and botty problems . Think he might have a touch of what I had last week , poor thing .
