Stars - very nice to see you here - I'm not usually here very much but with it being February I can't get out into the garden so have been catching up with friends here this w/e! Take care of yourself. I hope you have found some new friends during your treatment? This is a grim time of year I always think, so not easy to find support if anyone is feeling down. I hope you're OK. (Felt worried about you on another thread)

jChoc - very well done on your weight loss. I managed to lose a stone last year after going back to work, but rather a lot of it has crept back on over the last 2-3 months! Hence the need to get a grip. I was reflecting today that when younger I knew that sweet stuff was bad for your teeth, and a bit later I'd grapsed that weight would be bad for joints, but apart from that I did not know about the link between obesity and cancer - I found all that out when I was having treatment for BC. I wonder if more peope know about this now? I now think of fat as being an active stuff, busy sending nasty cells around. Given this new knowledge, why don't I have more willpower I wonder? I do think our life-styles make it difficult - the fact that food is everywhere and many of us have rather sedentary jobs. (I do get up form my desk really often though!!)

Anyway, positive thinking - ie I now have a spa day and an Easter mini-break to look forward to - and there's a family wedding in April - and soon I'll be back in the garden growing lovely healthy veg again! (Don't worry I do not go on about positive thinking re cancer as it makes me throw up to read about poorly women running marathons and people exhorting you to be positive when they haven't been through it themselves- but I need to gee myself up about fitness. I do admire women with cancer running marathons but its just not me. A 5k jog is quite enough in my case)

x-posted. Hi to Topsy as well!

Gigondas · 05/02/2012 21:00

Hmm my dad left a message as wants consultants phone number... Hmm have ignored for now.

Dh told bil and mil (who we are not always that close too) who have Both been supportive and positive (as much as you can be). Bil a neurologist and mil was a radiologist so have some knowledge .

Now hiding my livestrong wrist band from sand Wink but lol at the Marathon comment.

KurriKurri · 05/02/2012 22:15

Crikey Gigondas - you seem to have most of the medical profession covered there amongst your extended family Grin.

Gigondas · 06/02/2012 03:44

Grin true- although not many of them are good on common sense

Morning All

Relief all round . Took phone apart last night and left it disassembled . Put it together this morning , and ... it's alive !!!

Welcome to our new ladies . Will catch up properly soon . Need to read back a few pages , you have all been busy posters this weekend .

Good luck for today mas . No making a show of yourself Grin

Think I might have tonsillitis . Woke up feeling like I have a golf ball in my throat . Have had it once before and this is what it felt like .
Send your waves of sympathy and fbs this way please .

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/02/2012 09:08

sounds like tonsilitis topsy poor you Sad
That happened to my phone a week or so ago- completely dead -I really panicked but dh took it apart and turned the battery around,or something, recharged and fine - phew !
Am pleased to say I remained upright and didn't make a show of myself - yay ! am getting much better at this Grin The local anaesthetic was very stingy and I have a headache, but it's done Smile

OP posts:
NedSchneebly · 06/02/2012 09:11

morning topsy tonsilitis is rubbish - definitely sending you waves of sympathy. Get thee to a medical physician sooner rather than later, particularly if you have the white gunk at the back of your throat. . .

Glad to hear your phone is back in the land of the living. May it last long enough to get an upgrade, I say Wink

I am definitely going to ring nurse about getting my fluids drained. slight red patch on top of boob this morning, just where the bulge of fluid is. Booooo. . .

KK you were very eloquent and articulate to anonymosity, I thought - well said. Sorry if anyone thought I was too rude Blush

MAS fingers crossed for docs this morning. Thinking of you.

holsten how are you doing? healing nicely I hope?

Hope everyone is OK this morning? Big hugs, fbs and positive vibes to all who are in need.

Having Brew if anyone fancies one?

NedSchneebly · 06/02/2012 09:11

X posted with MAS - well done you. Glad it went OK. Is that it, or more to do?

Gigondas · 06/02/2012 09:13

Well done masSmile - extra fbs for you. Topsy poor you- tonsillitis horrible so sympathy.

Am resting in bed building energy to get up later - it's open class for dd1 gym class and I really want to go. But walk and sit a big deal for me. But am sure will be Olympic standard show Wink

Hello to everyone else and hope those who were feeling low ok - Holsten how you doing?

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/02/2012 09:21

hope you do get to the gymnastics later Gigondas
kk was very good wasn't she- polite yet assertive.
(you were not rude though ned)
One,poss two more mini ops to go - damned pesky but in the scheme of things no big deal- but am pleased my gp offers minor surgery,in London it was impossible and you had to go to the hospital after waiting for months for anything minor.

NedSchneebly · 06/02/2012 09:26

Question for the day: any suggestions as to how to make a 4yo DS look like an ancient Greek for Wednesday morning? Confused Its his class assembly. I am thinking toga of some sort, although my creative skills are nil, and I certainly don't own a sewing machine!

Gigondas hope you make it to see DD later - just take it easy x

Gigondas · 06/02/2012 09:31

Ned - don't think much sewing just old sheets and belt to make a chiton chiton

Hope you get fluids sorted. It must be most uncomfortable.

NedSchneebly · 06/02/2012 09:35

Thanks Gigondas - that link is great! Smile

The surgeon offered to drain my fluids (ooh er Blush ) when I saw him on Thursday, but we had been waiting for nearly 2 hours after 4pm appointment and I wanted to get home. Now I am thinking perhaps I should have let him do it. Have left message for the breast nurse to ring me back.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/02/2012 09:35

yikes about fluid Sad
I made a toga out of an old sheet for ds-and drew a Greek key pattern in marker pen on the hem, I have a picture of Roman day costume which is pretty similar -I made a laurel wreath head dress out of felt leaves..will put it on my facebook page for reference..oh and sandals (poor things will be freezing)

OP posts:
NedSchneebly · 06/02/2012 09:39

Nice one, thanks MAS

He will indeed be freezing - he has a genetic disorder which means that he cannot regulate his own body temperature, so will be even more freezing than the other 22 freezing 4 year olds in his class! Will consider discreetly placed thermals. . .

Gigondas · 06/02/2012 09:50

Thermals definitely way to go Ned -and hope nurse sorts appt out.

Oncology appt Tomorrow evening- am nervous . What can I expect as got no clue? Sorry for bombarding thread but this time last week had no real clue about any of this so all a lot to take on board at times.

smee · 06/02/2012 10:17
Smile

Ned, hope the bcn calls soon. Toga with thermals sounds about right. Temp thing sounds annoying for him. How on earth did you find out he'd got that?

MAS, hooray for head thingy done. You are brave. Smile

Stars, hello. Glad to hear they're spoiling you. If anyone deserves that it's you.

Holstein, your new man sounds lovely and if he's right, he'll stick. Anyway, I'm sure you're gorgeous in every way, so how could he not?! Smile

Gigondas, hope you get to the Olympic show later, though don't be surprised if you cry. Since diagnosis I cry at everything DS does - even if he's just standing in a line of kids singing, I blub. I have perfected the art of discreet eye wiping. Grin

On Oncology, I'd imagine it depends if they're sure on what's next - so if they know how aggressive the cancer is and where it is exactly in terms of spread, etc then they can do that, but if they're still testing you might find you don't get told much. I was dreading my first appointment, but actually found it hugely reassuring, so hope yours will be too.

Topsy, hooray for the living Blackberry. You are obviously a techno-whizz in disguise. Gargling with dissolvable aspirin's good for Tonsillitis and fbs of course. Wink

SR, Drift, Jane, Amber, Sometimes and all others I've missed HELLO !! Wishing us all a wonderful week, with excellent results for those facing them. Smile

NedSchneebly · 06/02/2012 10:27

Hi Smee My DS was diagnosed with Ectodermal Dysplasia just before his second birthday, on the basis of his lack of teeth. It is a genetic disorder with lots of different features - mostly to do with "external" bits: teeth (he only has 2, and they are capped),very sparse and crinkly blond hair, lack of sweating (no sweat glands) eczema and other skin issues and extra thick secretions in his nose and chest, which leads to asthma. Don't know if you can see my fb page from Tamoxifen Ten, but have a look at my pics and you'll see what I mean. It sounds awful when you read it, but its OK really - he has quite a mild presentation of it, and we have learnt to cope with the impact of it: inhalers for asthma, creams aplenty for eczema, water sprays and hats (and ice lollies!) in the summer, thermals, especially hat, socks and gloves, in the winter. I am a carrier, so have some mild symptoms myself, but I didn't know anything about it until he was diagnosed.

Have assembled a small white sheet and purple pashmina for trying on DS this afternoon. . .

BCN called back - have appointment for 3pm this afternoon.

smee · 06/02/2012 10:35

Crickey Ned, that's a lot for a small boy to get his head round. Sounds like you're more than on top of it though. What happens with his teeth as he grows? Will he get his second lot through, or are they not there either?

Yeay for BCN. You'll feel lots better once it's drained. Smile

holstenlips · 06/02/2012 10:50

Morning all,
well done Ned, hope you get boob sorted, its good they can see you so soon. And good luck for toga making!

KK Thankyou so so much for digging out those links re sex etc, it really helps to read stuff - and think, well, im not the only person to feel like this and i shouldnt give up! Re newish man, he doesnt seem fazed at all, is being supportive albeit at a distance (im not up to seeing him right now) My bits and bobs are still giving me gip, nothing looks or feels right at the moment. I have had lymph nodes out in groin and have a lot of swelling which seems to have accumulated on one side of my ladybits (tmi) it looks quite odd! Plus i still have some sort of infection i think. pretty vile really! i leave wet patches wherever i sit (defo tmi) its just really uncomfortable!!

i spent last night in tears , fed up with pain and yukky bits but i feel ok today. up and down me??!

Gigondas- when i met my consultant for my treatment plan, it was actually a relief to get confirmation and he was so reassuringly good, i actually love him now! I hope it goes well for you. And hope you get to the school display, it must be really hard for you to get out and about, and with a new baby too.my goodness you have your work cut out! (Hug) You really do sound like a lovely mummy and general all round good person so all my positive vibes to you. I hope you manage to speak to your Dad soon..if you are up to it, i found telling my dad impossible, left it to my Mum. but now i can chat to him and its ok. I think i was just really worried to upset him too much as he is old and very sensitive!

thanks smee, i dont feel too gorgeous but i am determined to get some kind of positive image back! Im a youngish 40, so dont want to give up just yet!

topsy, my dd has a sore throat today and her teacher has tonsilitis, yuk i hate sore throats , hope you feel better soon

MAS, well done and have a good rest today and get rid of that headache

i might pass on any fbs today as i have the trots (antibiotics induced perhaps) lucky me!

love to all on this thread x

SparkleRainbow · 06/02/2012 11:03

Have you got some anti bios yet Topsy?

Excellent polite and eloquent rebuttal of unhelp Tamoxifen comments Smile

Oo little Ned, what a lot he has to deal with. Sad Hope you find a way to insulate his toga!

I am still staring out at a winter wonderland. But when I drove the children to school this morning outside our little valley it is all melting...weird mircoclimate going on here....dh had to dig the cars out this morning, and spend yesterday afternoon salting up the track and the lane....by hand with a bucket!

Holsten I will make you a Brew, you must keep your fluids up.

Love to all, have put some chocolate cake on the fbs trolley. Will make hot chocolates for anyone who needs a pick me up.
