Can you tell me what you (honestly!) eat in a day?

I'm getting blood tests for weight loss this week - yeah, yeah, I know, poor me, huh? This isn't stealth boasting though - I am concerned and so is GP. However, I do wonder if I am actually eating enough or if I have lost sight of what is 'normal'. Or if I'm just busy and burning it off?

I'm back again aswell Grin - I am finding it fascinating to see what other people eat and by typing it out, it seems to be focusing my mind on what improvements I could make.

Breakfast - 2 slices of bread with peanut butter and a banana
Snack - one chocolate biscuit
Lunch - largish jacket potato with quite a bit of chicken breast and salad plus some grapes
Snack - 2 belgian chocolate biscuit squares and a tangerine
Tea - bowl of Shreddies
Supper - ?? thinking of maybe 2 scrambled eggs and some roasted tomatos or I took some carrot sticks to work but didn't get a chance to eat them so may have those dipped in somlight philadelphia and a hot chocolate.

snowmaiden · 10/01/2012 20:07

I do think you sounded pretty judgemental, amelia. I am the last person in the world to be sensitive about how much I eat/drink or how much I weigh and what you said sounded pretty harsh to me. Maybe just try to put things in a more friendly way next time? Few people react well to nagging.

Today:

Breakfast: slice of toast with butter, jam and peanut butter, a banana, a satsuma

Snacks: four tiny fairy cakes, raspberry and yoghurt cereal bar, apple, two strawberries, packet of salt and shake crisps

Lunch: leftover chicken cooked with tomato and fennel and garlic and some rice with butter and lemon juice, leeks, bread and butter

Snacks: a piece of fudge, two satsumas, half a biscuit DD cooked at school

Dinner: chicken and mushroom pie, peas, gravy, chips, Greek yoghurt with jam, gin and tonic (one, large), glass of wine (still being consumed, thinking about another).

yummytummy · 10/01/2012 21:00

love these threads! although it does make me feel that i eat far too much compared to most. am still a bit heavier than i would like to be. maybe someone can look at my day and see what i could tweak? apart from the obvious no junk/chocs etc!

so, breakfast: 2 weetabix with skimmed milk and strawberries. coffee.

lunch: homemade butternut squash and chickpea soup and a bit of leftover chicken pasta bake.

snack: banana, 2 satsumas, coffee, piece of banana bread, 2 small chocs

dinner: rice and daal curry with one roti (like a wrap)

usually drink water and squash and have glass of milk before bedtime.

headfairy · 10/01/2012 21:12

This is why I've always found my fitness pal soooo good, seeing what you've eaten written down is a really good way of instantly seeing where your calories come from... Perhaps this sort of thing should be a regular thread like Sal's what's for dinner thread.

Today:

Breakfast: with lurpack lighter and slice of leerdammer, cup of tea

Snack: some of dd's cast off Jaffa cakes

Lunch: tuna Mayo sandwich, corn on the cob

Snack: 2 Fox's cream crunches

Dinner: homemade meatloaf with tomato and chilli sauce, mashed potatoes and broccoli, handful of grapes

blackcatjay · 10/01/2012 21:17

Interesting thread. Today I ate:

Muesli with semiskim milk, 1/2 slice toast
Tinned mackerel & avocado sandwich
2 sausages,mash,small yorkshire,baby sweetcorn with gravy

plus about 4 teas,1 coffee and a couple of glasses of water.

Unusually haven't had any snacks today - would normally eat biscuits/cake/fruit etc.

5'4'' 8st 13lbs. Normally around this weight so long as I lay off the rubbish and do plenty of spin classes!

enjoyingscience · 10/01/2012 22:07

hello amelia sorry if I baffled you. As others have said, a few extra inches makes a big difference, and I happen to have really quite small breasts, which helps (or not, depending on your view on that sort of thing)

Well done for walking all those miles uphill - I'm imagining you marching around in an Escher painting, so presumably you do come back down the hill at some point Grin

FleetwoodandFairycakes · 10/01/2012 22:23

yummytummy - It all sounds pretty healthy (except junk as you said) and I am no expert but what stands out is that it is quite carb heavy, especially dinner? I thought you might be a vegetarian but I see there is some chicken in there. If you want to lose a few pounds perhaps try and make dinner a protein and veg-based meal?

I could do with eating more protein myself as it stops the energy lows I get from eating lots of carbs and it fills me up for longer. I feel better when eat more protein and fewer refined carbs, but I just don't usually manage it! Grin

bonkersLFDT20 · 10/01/2012 22:33

Today.

Breakfast: 2 slices of toast with jam

Snack: banana and some office goodies

Lunch: salad bar (noodles, chickpeas, rice, tomato, roasted veggies) and a bread roll with butter.

Snack: bag of peanut M&Ms. Biscuit.

Dinner: salmon, brocolli, roast potatoes, carrots.

Glass of wine.

Went for 6 mile run at lunch time - hence the banana.

Popbiscuit · 10/01/2012 22:36

Hi Yummy-you didn't specify how much squash but that can really add to your calorie count. Ditto the glass of milk, extra chocs, double fruit and carby dinner. Could you sub out one of the carbs at dinner (rice or wrap and replace with a big salad or some steamed veg?). Fruit is awesome, obviously, but it is possible to eat too much of it...vegetables much better.

gagafan · 10/01/2012 23:23

milky coffee/toast with butter and honey/ half a grapefruit

lauraloveskitsch · 11/01/2012 00:22

Honestly, some days I only eat one meal which is usually dinner. I fill up on coffee and energy drinks through the day.

I can't resist a cheese toastie though.

legallyblond · 11/01/2012 09:38

OP - what do you think having read the thread?

Could it be a hyper thyroid (overactive thyroid) issue as suggested by me and some others. Do you have any other symptoms?

More importantly, as you asked, how does your eating compare with what others have posted? Have you lost sight of normal eating do you think? Or are you falling in the middle somewhere? If you are losing weight and don't need to lose weight, then obv your diet should not look at all like those on here who are trying to drop a few pounds etc.

Obv I had big problems with eating, but on my way there and before I was really unwell, I found that on my "normal" days ("oh, I don't diet at all, I eat totally normally" etc etc) I was in fact eating what many or most would eat when on a diet of some sorts. When dieting, I, even pretty early on, had lost track of normal and thought that it was vital to stay under, I think, 1000 -1200 cals. Obv, that reduced and reduced until my daily limit was 400 or maybe 350... Not good times!

I am interested in your responses to what people have posted about their diet and their weight. Do you consider most people on here to be about right or are you internally thinking "I would never want to be that size" etc?

Really hope all is well with your bloods! Smile

deviladvocate · 11/01/2012 10:59

Have decided to eat as if you lot are looking over my shoulder so have been very restrained so far today - no bad snacks post school run! I shall endeavour to stick to it. Hard when there's so much chocolate in the house post Christmas....

sitsyou · 11/01/2012 11:38

same here. Filled everything on that website and was only 'allowed' about 100 calories for dinner so had a salad! Helped that DH was out though and no temptation to have whatever he was having.
So far today have had half a bagel and a milky coffee (am STARVING though)

Haberdashery · 11/01/2012 11:55

I've just tried myfitnesspal. It's brilliant. You can set a goal for gaining weight, too, OP - could be useful to you. I have to eat another 1659 calories today in order to gain a pound a week. A pound a week sounds like a lot but I might as well try. I'm going to try to get to 8 stone.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 11/01/2012 12:00

Hab (et. al.) I really do recommend MFP, as you say you can do weigh gain too. Good luck with it! It's so great at removing the sense of confusion and wonder/myth about weight stuff and food. Nothing's demonised, it's just calories in and out.

sitsyou · 11/01/2012 12:00

it's great isn't it haberdashery - it's really motivating me. Trying to get to 8 stone too.

It's really hard though, I'm already 3 points over my fat limit and haven't even had lunch yet Shock

TheScarlettPimpernel · 11/01/2012 12:03

Anyone using MFP for loss - I should warn you that if you have been overeating, even for a short while, it is a bit of a shock for a few days eating 1200 cals a day Grin

I felt really quite light headed and faint for the first week but once I got to grips with the idea that that's partly sugar cravings/force of habit, and that you can't eat much during the day if you want a nice supper and a glass of wine, or unless you go for a run, then it works well. It takes a lot of discipline but it's really nice being a 'diet' in which nothing, including Green and Black's ginger chocolate, is forbidden!!

Haberdashery · 11/01/2012 12:06

I am feeling a real sense of achievement when I enter more calories. I should probably get out more...

How much do you weigh now, sitsyou? Apologies, I have probably missed you saying before. Shall we compare progress? I have to say, I'm not sure about their calorie estimates. Mine only wants me to eat 2100 calories a day or so which doesn't seem that much (I am quite active).
